I bought a new map obtained from the Locus store yesterday but now find the SRTM/ HGT/ elevation data was not downloaded or offered for download. Previously I would be asked whether to download this data. I eventually found this topic http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_add_map_shading which has an old? screen capture of an example map properties page and link to "Download of elevation data" but none of my LoMaps have this button/ link. There are no items in the map ... (vertical dot.dot.dot) menu. Does this page need updating?

When I follow the instruction on this page to add then edit a POI then tap GET altitude button it displays the same (outdated?) map shading page.

BTW when I try to search the online manual for keywords "SRTM" or "HGT" eg. http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?do=search&id=hgt most of the results are for DE or CZ languages, and certainly the link faq:how_to_add_map_shading is not in the results list. There are only 2 english results in the list which seems very odd. On the other hand if I search for "elevation" eg. http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?do=search&id=elevation all of the results are in english, the map shading page is top of the list. No results for DE or CZ languages are listed.

Good day Andrew,
I'm surprised you do not see this "Download elevation data" button! It should be since few versions back, visible for all! items in Store, that have defined area coverage. So definitely for all LoMaps. And does not matter if you have the certain item purchased or not.

And manual .. I'll forward this to @Michal , anyway just please keep in mind that SRTM or HGT are rude worst for most of basic users, so I'm sure that Michal is focused more on words like "shading" or "elevation data".

@menion - yes I'm aware there was plenty of discussion on separate downloading of elevation data so surprised I don't find a method during my store/ map purchase. I should have included the screen cap below in my original post to support my experience:

How can I help further?

yes I agree with your point SRTM/HGT are technical but inconsistent for DE/ CZ languages search results had very many references to these terms whereas no mention in english version of the manual.

Ah, but on your screenshot is the detail of item in Map manager, not in Locus Store! It is still quite a difference.

Yes you are correct (as generally). Now I go to the map in the store there is the download button. However to me, unless my task is to purchase a map from the store, it doesn't make sense to me to go there. It seems more logical I first go to the map properties in Map Manager for any & all details related to that map, including elevation data. So two questions:
  • Would it be useful to have same <download elevation data> button in Map Manager map properties - like on my screen cap? Or why not?
  • Why didn't Locus Pro offer to download elevation data after the map was downloaded? It has with past maps.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Understand.
We had some problems with user who find this "Do you want to download ele data" obtrusive. Since few versions back, Locus Map download elevation files for LoMaps automatically! This should cover all basic users.

Advanced users like you, who probably do not use LoMaps, should take care about vector maps manually and also HGT files manually.

Since version 3.29 (not sure exactly), Locus Map should display in top right corner of map small icon (elevation symbol) that notify, that elevation data are needed but unavailable. Simple tap downloads necessary data. So I believe, extra button in detail of map is not necessary.

OK, thanks for explanation.

>who probably do not use LoMaps
not true - this experience was with purchase of new Locus map; so in fact as you explain, all the elevation data was also downloaded; all happy
