Thanks so much for looking into this. I can see now that opening a KML or KMZ file starts and saves a project in GE. Very annoying, but Google does what Google wants.

As for the share function, I see what you mean. Perhaps other apps have already seen the change or bug in GE and provided a work-around by not including the waypoint name when they make the call.

As always, thanks for all the work on Locus and taking the time to look into this issue.

Yes, GE shows in the Share menus, but does not work properly from there. It opens GE, but does not send the coordinates in the correct format to GE so GE opens at the last known location. See the shots below. First is the waypoint (geocache) in Locus. Using the share option, GE opens but does not move to those coordinates. Now tap the search icon on the GE screen and it shows what Locus sent. (second photo). Locus appended the waypoint name to the coordinates, so the search failed. If I edit out the waypoint name, GE moves to the correct location.

Also, when calling GE through the share menu, it does not create a project in GE like it does when called through the navigate menu.

Thanks for the quick response. In trying to get a clearer picture, I made some adjustments. When tapping navigation apps Earth did not appear. Google navigation and Uber were the choices there. I deleted Uber and now when I select navigate the option navigation apps does not appear and Google navigation appears in the list instead.

I would not be surprised to see that it is a change on Google's end.

I've noticed something annoying with the communication between Locus and Google Earth. Let's say I open a waypoint and select navigate. A dialog opens to select a choice; Navigate to, Guide on, Compass, Earth, Navigation Apps, etc. I have the Google Earth app installed, so Earth shows up as a choice.

If I select Earth, it opens GE and creates a Project for that one way point and it gets saved in a Project list in GE. This has resulted in hundreds of Projects showing up in GE and I have to answer a couple dialogs every time I select GE from within Locus.

Other apps do not do this. If I tap the location pin in a Contact listing for example, GE shows as a choice and when selected, just opens and shows the view. No Projects dialogs or lists are created.

I suspect that Locus may not be using the correct API call when opening GE and passing the coordinates to GE.

Troubles & Questions / Obscure coordinate bug
October 12, 2019, 03:20:14
This "bug" is pretty obscure - it requires two user mistakes to be made before it happens.  :-[
So it might not actually warrant a bug fix.

I copied coordinates from an email that someone sent me and then created a new waypoint using the 'Clipboard' option to paste the coordinates for the waypoint.  The email had the coordinates formatted as N41.48.392, W88.19.396.  (I use DDM format.)  I did not notice the additional decimal after degrees when copying, and did not notice it after pasting, either.  After tapping OK, Locus did not give me an error message about invalid formatting, it just entered something very different. Try it - it's easily repeatable.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Left panel disappears
October 12, 2019, 03:04:39
Actually I believe I have found the problem.  On my Galaxy phone, I had remapped the Bixby button to launch LocusPro instead.  It was only when launching LocusPro with the Bixby button that this would happen, as well as a couple other minor glitches.  Launching LocusPro the normal way, I do not have any such problems. So not only is Bixby rather useless, so is it's button.   ;D

Troubles & Questions / Re: Left panel disappears

Locus Pro 3.39.4 and Geocaching 4 Locus 3.0.3. Android 9.0 on Samsung S9+.

On extremely rare occasions I have had the right side panel disappear as well and double tap did not bring it back. But losing the content panel happens once or twice per day while geocaching. Maybe it's an interaction with G4L.

Troubles & Questions / Left panel disappears
September 18, 2019, 22:18:55
I have Quick Map Switch and Map Content set to display in the lower left of my display, as shown in my screenshot. These two panels randomly disappear and the only way I can get them back is to exit and restart Locus.

I'm probably doing something wrong but an app restart seems to be the only way to have them come back.

I suspect that it is related to the strange way my Samsung S9 shows internal path vs SD card path.
The Root setting in Locus is '/sdcard/Locus/maps' for example.  However, Locus and the external maps directories are actually in the internal memory.  This 'doubling' of the map listing only started when I updated the Mapsforge maps in question.  The other older (not updated) maps are only listed once.  Not that big of a deal, just strange.

I have some offline Mapsforge maps downloaded with another app. I have pointed to this folder in Locus and the maps work fine. However, some of the maps show twice in the maps list in Locus. There is only one map file but it shows twice in the list. The ones that are listed twice were recently downloaded. The ones that are listed once have been there a while.

The latest version of the GPS Averaging app is now serious malware. Even when it's not running, it randomly puts up full screen ads. Even if it has never been run after a phone reboot, the ads still randomly pop up. I have Uninstalled.

Is there another averaging app that integrates with Locus Pro?

I have 3.0.2 and had an error loading a list from geocaching.com. The list has 22 geocaches in it but it only loaded 10 of them. I do not have any filters set. I used the option online to save as a PQ and the PQ had all 22 geocaches. I downloaded the same list with another app and it got all 22 geocaches. So the list seems OK; it appears that the problem only exists with G4Locus. I made the list public so it could be looked at.

Has anyone else had an issue with importing lists?

@milan:
Thx a lot for your answer. Unfortunately, that pretty much disqualifies more or less any Tizen watch for me. I have a phone for everyday, one for mountain sports, and one for travels. While a reset would perhaps be just about acceptable for a longer holiday, it certainly isn't for a weekend hike.
In case anyone's interested: With Android Wear, it's at least possible to switch phones without factory reset: https://www.xda-developers.com/pair-android-wear-without-factory-reset
I can only hope that Samsung realizes sometime in the future that that's a good thing...
Well, now I'll check for Android Wear watches...

Having upgraded my Samsung phone to a newer model, I was indeed annoyed when I paired the Galaxy watch to my new phone. Yes, it completely wiped all the apps and settings on the watch just to pair to a different phone. It was easy to restore everything from the auto backups, but it was annoying nonetheless. I can see why they do it that way for security reasons, such as if the watch was stolen. That would be a nightmare to deal with if you had multiple phones to use it with and wanted to periodically switch phones back and forth.

I just did the following test while running a store errand.

Made sure Locus was set to Run as Service and battery optimization was off. Selected a waypoint and Guide On. Turned off the phone screen. Selected map on the watch. Map worked and updated as I drove with phone screen off.

A couple times when I raised my wrist, the watch had gone back to the watch screen and I had to navigate back to the Locus screen and select Map again. I can't tell if the app stopped or just went into the background.

Wonderful!! I got to play with this for a bit today.
I have Samsung:
Galaxy S8 phone, Android 8.0.0
Galaxy S3 Frontier watch,  Tizen 3.0.0.2

I tested with a walk around the neighborhood, driving to a park and searching for a geocache.

I found the position updates on the watch to be quite delayed.  I usually had to raise the watch 2 or 3 times before the position updated on the map.  So maybe it was something like every 10 seconds before my position updated?  I had the phone set to using Google Satellite maps.  I tried it again using an offline OSM map and although the display update of the map tiles was faster, the position update was still too slow for my taste.

If the phone screen shut off or I manually shut it off and put the phone in my pocket, the screen stopped updating altogether.  I thought if I turned on "run Locus as a service" this might not happen.  I also turned off battery optimization on the phone.  I'm not sure yet if that cured the problem.

I recorded a track and then put the phone away.  When I stopped the track, I got an error message of "can't connect to Locus - can't save" or something like that.  Turned the phone screen on and hit the stop recording button and it saved the track OK.  I never got the chance to specify WHERE to save the track, it just used the last track folder location that I had used before.

On my second track attempt, I started track recording.  Then I also selected "Hiking" in the Samsung Fitness App, which also records a track and heart rate.  Both ran concurrently and both recorded the same track.  One oddity was that the first time I raised my wrist, the Locus track screen came up.  After that, the Samsung track screen came up whenever I raised my wrist.  I could navigate back to the Locus track screen OK.  But the next time I raised my wrist, it defaulted to the Samsung screen again.  Not a big deal and I suppose not many people would run two different track recording apps at the same time.  I just thought it odd that the watch did not return to the last used screen each time.

I found the waypoint icons on the screen to be much too large.  And the default directional pointer was HUGE on the screen. Quite distracting.  Is it possible to make them smaller?

What I really, really want to see is something like the compass screen.  When hiking or geocaching, I'm usually navigating towards a waypoint.  I start the navigation and then put the phone away.  I'll periodically pull the phone out to check on my progress, noting the bearing, heading and distance.  I'd love to see this displayed on the watch so I could leave it in my pocket and just check the watch every now and then.

I tried setting the app as a Widget but it does not show up in the list of available widget apps.

I have a suggestion... If you have to make separate versions for Pro and Free, shouldn't the Pro folks get it first?  They are the ones who paid. And I would think more active.... Just a thought.

Well, that's all for now.  Thanks for starting the development of this!
