What application do you have ? The phone in your hand ? Or in a holder on the bike handlebars ?

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.18.+ ( 8/2023 )
August 21, 2023, 18:11:16
Quote from: joeloc on August 21, 2023, 18:00:35The google maps point sharing "fix" now extracts the points name from the funny url and does a new Locus "search" for that. It's unfortunately almost as unusable as before. I now tried it 10 times in real world situations (still being on an endless bike journey). 3/10 times Locus didn't find the point (by name) at all. 5/10 times if "found" something completely different by the same or a similar name, sometimes 100km away. 2/10 times it found the right thing.

Verdict: still an almost complete failure. re-searching in that way is not an option. if you cannot extract proper coordinates from a funny url, we're f*cked forever.

Apparently this "workaround fix app" that people here talk about manages to do it fine though. Too bad it's no longer supported and doesn't install on current Androids without jumping through hoops :-)
You are in the wrong topic. here was written so that it works only with the next version. 4.18.2.2. or 4.19.

Lange auf die Karte klicken. Dann unten Navigieren auswählen.
Alles über navigation findest du hier.
https://docs.locusmap.app/de/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:functions:navigation

https://docs.locusmap.app/de/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:functions:navigation#adding_via_points_during_navigation

Die Ausrichtung der Karte findest du hier.
https://docs.locusmap.app/de/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_mainscr_ctrl#rotating

Troubles & Questions / Re: Tracks not showing
August 17, 2023, 16:15:55
If you use the maps from Openandromaps, the themes will be installed as well. Just select the country, go to the + and choose Install Locus.
The maps are very good for hiking and available worldwide. Hiking trails are highlighted by difficulty. Hiking trails can be shown or hidden.

Quote from: Andrew Heard on August 17, 2023, 00:49:58Regards the latest 4.18.2 online search results & sharing from Google Maps. For me, it's the same experience as reported in previous beta @ https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=8436.msg72716#msg72716. Although the release notes mention search improvement, I didn't notice any change.
I still have poor results here as well. Maybe it's because Google Maps doesn't append usable data when sharing. Coordinates would be important here. Maybe Google only gives the name. But also with this should come good results.

The map legend says Kissing Gate

I also had the street names displayed in the top bar for a while. Since Locus is an outdoor app and there are rarely street names there, I turned this feature off. Since I prefer to see a little more of the map at this poi

Yes it turns immediately. But it spins while the screen is on. It is briefly confusing. The idea was to make it spin just before the screen turns on automatically. When turning on manually there is nothing you can do, because Locus doesn't know when I turn on, only when turning on automatically.
The biggest rotation is when you drive south, because the map is always oriented north at the beginning.
But as I said it is not very bad. It would only make the system perfect.

I have been testing it for the last 2 days. To be honest, I have not noticed any improvement. If it is, it's so small that I don't register it.
But you do not have to destroy the working system. You don't have to take a risk here. It is not that important.
If you work on the system at some point, then you can go with it. Or if you ever rewrite it. Just make a note in the appropriate place.

I think Michael's idea is a good one. Keep the old online search and start the new search (beta) in parallel. At the first start of the search (beta) a note so that you should post errors, improvements here in the topic and so that you can still use the old search in case of need.
In the first post here, should be added in bold what they have in mind and how the current timetable is. This can then be adjusted weekly. Then many questions, criticism, etc. would not arise.
I myself use the search very rarely. Nevertheless, I try to help here, because the development of Locus Map is important. In addition, I do not want so that important users (geeks) are annoyed and jump off. because they also often help me with very special applications.

Perhaps the topic should be renamed: Online / Offline Search

Another idea about other search providers (GMaps, Bing...). Who wants to use these does not need to use the online search here (simply deselect the search type). What would be useful, however, is a link to another search provider (app, or website) The link can be set up if you want to use it. When setting up you can still write a note to it.
The icon for this could be placed at the top of the menu. Better would be directly in the search (possibly on the far right).
Of course there is the possibility to place a link to an app in the sidebar. But for some, it is already too full. and simple users do not use it normally. Another area would be the main menu, where I currently also start the search. But at the moment you can only place locus internal functions there and no foreign apps.

I like what they're trying to do. I think we are too impatient. But this way, good ideas may still come.
My idea:
Right now I have to select search in tracks. But if I want to search in online addresses, I have to change it and start a new search. That is multiple selection in the menu.
Here you could set a default setting where everywhere is searched. If I get too much I can briefly deselect a few search types and then have fewer results. The whole thing also the other way around, add search types.
But with a new search is always first the basic setting that I have set.
