I have a request for improvement when creating a new route in the route planner:

I am planning a route. Then, for example, there is a small bridge over a stream that is missing from the OSM map. The route planner doesn't want to take me along it. No problem, I create this section of the route "manually" in drawing mode. Or I want to take a shortcut somewhere cross-country. Here, too, I can insert a manual segment. Wonderful.

But: Whenever I recalculate the entire route ("recalculate all"), the manually drawn segments are ignored and the route is routed via existing paths, which ruins my planning.  See screenshot.

Would it be possible for manually drawn segments to be regarded as "unchangeable" during the recalculation and thus be retained? That would be great!

(If the manual segment cannot be reached in another profile (Car instead of Hike etc.), the orange error message "Routing service can't find the start point..." may appear. Just like when recalculating in car mode if shaping points are on hiking trails.)

@col: Include photos/videos in auto backup is not a good solution. The backup file would quickly become gigantic.

If you store your attached photos/videos exclusively in the Locus subfolders "photos" and "video", you can back them up yourself and copy them back again. See Menion's answer.

However, if you select photos as attachments that are stored somewhere on the device or the sd card, a link is created. I always do this because I have saved my photos in a well-organised folder structure of my own. These photos are then stored in the points as a link.

Unfortunately, this is almost impossible to save and I dread the day when I need a new smartphone and have to link all the photos again individually. But I also don't want to copy all the attached photos to the Locus subfolder "photos".
Unfortunately, I can't think of a simple solution. As long as I use the old sd card in a new/different smartphone, I hope that the links are still correct and the photos are still displayed. I don't know whether this will work reliably. But that's my problem.

This is intentional and is the new concept. The navigation allows you to customise the calculated route as required.

If the route suits you, click the navigation icon at the top of the map and off you go.

See Menion's Post here:
"... there is a completely new system of handling shaping/via points in the route planner that should also fully replace the old "Navigate to" screen."

Quote from: Andrew Heard on March 19, 2024, 04:42:25Just curious - what happens if I tap the cross X? Should the startup Initializing screen have this X?

In rare cases, it may be useful to cancel the start process, e.g. if you have started Locus by mistake. However, I have never used this - especially as Locus usually starts very quickly. Perhaps the X is a relic from earlier times, when the starting process took considerably longer.  :)

Thanks a lot for the release, Menion. According to my initial tests, it looks good! No more problems with the red circles. Addresses are updated in the route planner when dragging and adding points. No more nonsensical track time values when recalculating and "overwriting" a route. Perfect.

Only the German translation of "collapse/expand" is not ideal. Perhaps "einklappen/ausklappen" or "zusammenfassen/erweitern" would be better. SCHLIESSEN is more like "close".

I can confirm the error reported by freischneider, it still occurs.

@Menion: Great that some of my mentioned problems could be fixed!  :)

the name "select stop" is still an old name. Now "select via Point after" ?

You mean the entry in the list? There again "select via Point after" would be nonsensical. Perhaps "select location" or "select position" would be better.

For the moment it's not possible. You have to copy the photo folders.

I believe this will be made possible in the future. But no idea when.

Incomprehensible display of entries in route list. I create a route with the route planner. All shaping points show the correct address of the location. Great, I like that! (Screenshot 1)

But when I modify the route, it gets weird:

I drag a shaping point to a different position. It keeps the address of the original position. (I would expect the address to be updated.)

I add a via-point (add via-point after) and select "screen centre" under "select location". The via point appears in the list with the coordinate and not the address. This remains the same when I toggle it to a shaping point.

I then drag a small red dot between two shaping points, which creates a new shaping point. This is only named "shaping point" in the list.

By editing the route, I get a funny mixed list with shaping points with the correct address, shaping points with the wrong address, shaping/via points with coordinates and shaping points called "shaping point". This is confusing.
(Screenshot 2)

BTW: "collapsed" leaves via points always visible, only shaping points are hidden. That makes sense. 👍

@freischneider:
For me "add stop" is understandable enough, but for my sake "add after" would be even clearer.
Two options "add after" and "add before" would unnecessarily bloat the 3-point menus.

@Menion and all:
I would still find it helpful if the item in the list could somehow be linked to the point on the map. Or highlight it visually. This helps with a route with many shaping/via points. At the moment I can only see the number in the symbols and have to search for it in the list or on the map. This is a bit annoying on a longer route with many shaping/via points.

In the list, "show in map" could be added in the 3-point menu. On the map when I click on the shaping/via point in the menu add "show in list". See screenshots 1 and 2.

Another thing: In rare cases, an orange error message appears when I move a shaping point in the route on the map (to a normal route/road). The router then calculates for a long time (approx. 10 seconds) and then the message appears. (LoRouter offline)

I think, Locus is an outdoor app and not a car navigation system. With the latter, searching for addresses would be the usual use case. With an outdoor app like Locus, navigating to a position on the map or a POI or a individual point is a common use case. I don't want to use Locus to navigate to an address in some city, but to a shelter, a crossroads or a small lake, for example...

BTW: can anyone confirm that the route recalculation is much slower in the beta? Routes with many shaping points (20 or more) feel like they take forever to recalculate, regardless of the router.
I have the latest release version 4.21.1 on my old Galaxy S7 and the same tracks are recalculated much faster.

Quote from: Menion on March 11, 2024, 22:23:29.. When using the "Navigate to" function, search is the most logical step from my point of view. If you want to use the screen center - long click on the screen center > bottom panel Navigate to!

I do not agree. In the search I can only search for addresses and LoPoints online. Can't search in my points, contacts, coordinates etc.

Long click on the screen center works only if "tap and hold to display address" ist activated. And it ist not so precise like the cursor position. And I don't like this function activated because it often triggers accidentally and is then annoying.

Hello, I have just tried out the latest beta with the new route planner administration. Thanks for all that work! As is so often the case, you have to get used to the changes.

Some remarks: I myself hardly ever need the list with the via points/shaping points. It would therefore be better for me if it didn't open initially, but I could only open it (pull it up) when needed. At the moment it's the other way round: every time I want to edit a route with the route planner, the entire list opens, in which I may have 15 or 20 or even more shaping/via points. And every time I have to pull it down to make it disappear. Perhaps this behaviour could be offered as a selectable option in the settings.

The "collaps" function is very practical, but this is only included in the menu for the very last shaping point (the destination). So I have to scroll down to the very last entry in the list to be able to select "collaps". Perhaps this option could be offered in the menu for every single shaping point. Or in the icon bar on the top of the list.

Otherwise everything works quite well, a few translations (in German) are still missing in the menus, but it's a beta version

Just one more request: it would be nice if it would be possible to choose the position (size) of the menu when selecting the altitude profile so that only the altitude chart and not the two bar charts for route types and surface are visible. They take up a lot of space and I usually don't need them. (I can select the Graph Hopper, then they are not there, but it should also be possible with the LoRouter).

Könnte dann so aussehen:
