Messages - Viajero Perdido

Changes since Autumn 1.0 release:
- Triggered by the request of a North American user I produced ZL 12/13 maps for much of North America.
- While ZL 12 and 13 maps have been available for parts of Europe already, I have created an additional set of maps with ZL 12/13 with wider coverage.
- Once this train started rolling, I also produced ZL 12 maps for much of Asia, split in two, as well as for Africa.
- The OAM background from ZL 8 up now is rendered from the Dec edition of Christian's OAM vector maps.
- The torrent downloads are now separated into three chunks: World maps, regional maps at ZL 11 and regional maps at ZL 12/13.

Those are the changes since summer:
- The OAM background from ZL 8 up now is rendered from the Oct edition of the OAM vector maps.
- Wind turbines could overcrowd and hide streets and other useful information in ZL 9 - 11. Now a grid based grouping into "WP" is used, substituting all turbines in the respective tile (~4km for ZL 9-10, ~2km for ZL 11). Offshore farms show all turbines as available in OSM.
Enjoy - maybe only couch surfing this time of the year :-)
Cheers
Michael

Maps / Re: Duplicated contour lines in Lomaps
November 01, 2022, 20:35:08
Hmm thanks, but I'm not sure it worth the work. Two maps of the same type and region: why to have them on the device? Anyway, problem is that app loads and use both, understand. This I believe happens only with OAM maps, because LoMaps had precisely defined area of coverage so this should not happen there.

Hmm ... I probably know why this happens, but I'm not sure there is anything I may simply do with it  :-\

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.12.+ ( 09/2022 )

Good to know, I wouldn't have found it there. Radim mentioned it will be possible to change the published name:

Quote from: Radim V on June 21, 2022, 11:31:59Hi, You will be able to change displayed name to something generic and anonymous.
Couldn't find this functionality. Is it implemented? I don't mind if the people from Locus map know who actually made the photo, but I don't want that it is published under my account name. Not being able to set an alias keeps me away from adding photos.

Bump for visibility, dealing with .lnk files in Windows 11 is a huge nightmare. I am a theme developer who works in Windows, I built the "Adventure" theme for adventure motorcyclists (hosted over on advrider.com).

Every time I load a theme in to Locus with lnk files pointing to the legend, I get an error in the Android PDF viewer "Cannot display PDF ([theme].pdf cannot be opened).

I believe this is because Windows is appending metadata to each .lnk file whenever the OS sees the file renamed from a txt extension. If I generate the lnk file on my Android and place it in the theme folder, the legend is able to successfully open from within Locus with no error, but every time I try to offload the lnk file from my phone to my Windows machine, then transfer it back to the phone again, I get this error.

It would be nice if you could add a provision for those of us who work in Windows to get the legend link files working in our themes. Maybe even look for a standard txt file in addition to the lnk file. For the time being, I will have to make a copy of the legend PDF for the 2 theme XML files I maintain (a V3 and a V4 theme), since even a URL will not work.

"Fine-tune" terminology. Why? I guess to distinguish from Route Planner. But imo it's a weird choice. After all, it is a track editor. And e. g. I don't expect split/merge under fine-tune.
OK, we're renaming it to "Edit track". It is more generic than "repair" or "fine-tune" and the tool in which it is done is called "Track editor". Hopefully this will suit the majority.

As for terminology, what Viajero says, same preference by me. Imo the track editor isn't just fine-tuning. Fine-tune to my ears sounds less like a serious tool but more like "fiddling around", but I'm not a native EN speaker.

Btw any plans to allow undo/cancel save in track fine tune editor 😉? Changes there are instantly applied.

Screenshot and GPX attached. In the GPX, every TP has "<ele>10.00</ele>" - which Locus seems to misinterpret. I think not so serious, totally flat tracks are rather rare.

Can someone explain why I'm getting an item, in this instance a toilet, displaying multiple times, sometimes with the same or different graphics.
It feels like I've got 3 maps here, but only 1 displaying?
Can I disable the other 2? How do I understand which is from where?

Thanks
Jeff

@razvaneduard
I'm quickly testing it and it seems to work correctly even for planner routes. You may give a try and modify "speed_for_moving_cursor_when_gps_off" parameter in the Locus/config.cfg file to something like "speed_for_moving_cursor_when_gps_off=3.0" if this makes a difference.

@balloni55
identical dashboard & custom screen buttons > ah thanks. I'll have to get rid of this old "Custom screen" system soon  >:(

@Viajero Perdido
I see the problem probably. When you plan a really short route where are none! navigation commands (no instruction to turn) and you have disabled generating of navigation commands by the shape (settings > navigation > advanced > Frequency of commands), app does not recognize route as navigation route so it starts a guidance mode instead. Hmm ...

This looks like quite confusing behavior. I'll change it to the next app version and when you select "navigation", it will always start this mode even without a valid navigation command.

@Christian
I know I know, sorry. It should be already fixed in the latest beta version and the new version is in preparation.

@luce
I agree with michaelbechtold. Maybe not so nice, but definitely a little more detailed. Anyway as you may see on your screenshots, there are some graphical glitches that I was not yet able to solve. Hope that current style is not a problem.

Long tap on map content to toggle last two maps is nice! A little problem though: I believe when Locus restarts and maybe also when I select a new overlay map, you forget the previously used map and replace it with the overlay map. That doesn't make much sense, I never want the overlay to move into one of the toggle spots.

Switching between maps is something I do very frequently on the trail, most of the time toggling between OSM and a satellite map. I believe this is a very frequent operation in Locus, especially now that you have these gorgeous satellite maps in Gold without google hacks. Anyway, map changing has become a bit of a cumbersome multi-tap operation recently: tap on the map icon, tap on the current map name (feels a bit illogical here), find new map in the list, tap on new map name. One could probably put the quick map change function in a toolbar, but that doesn't make the tap orgy less complex really.

How about using a long tap on the map icon (currently unused) to toggle between the previously selected map and the current one? That would make things super-easy and fast if all you need is two maps, like OSM and Satellite.

Maps / The OAM world map Winter edition is online
February 27, 2022, 18:31:48
https://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads/general-maps

These are the major changes in version 202202-1.0:
- The OAM base maps are from Feb. 2022 for Europe and from Jan. 2022 for the rest of the planet.
- In the high North hill shading showed extreme distortions from earlier data sources. Current elevation data provides a much better representation. In the end, hill are the only relevant thing of notice in those regions ...
- Missing tiles around the date line (+/-180 degrees) are available now. Many TXs to Emux (Mapsforge) and Robert (MOBAC) for amending their toolsets.
- The old naming scheme for world maps is no longer offered.

As always, feedback is very welcome.

My thanks to the author of this wonderful rendertheme - Maki!

After the post of the author of Tiramisu EOL, this theme has been corrected and developed.

The rendertheme has now been corrected with the latest changes in routes (hiking, MTB, cycling) in OAM with an update date of January 2022e.

Added new POIs, Bike-Park scale IMBA tracks, trails and lots of little things.

Because the theme is designed for a distant outdoor, all icons are always displayed as soon as they appear in the map data and in urban conditions can lead to oversaturation of the map and mutual overlap of icons. Therefore, use layers in the theme menu more actively and turn off unnecessary ones. Still, a topic for areas where POIs are scattered more widely.

From Tobias Kuen's Elevate family of themes, this theme is the closest to the Elements theme.

In many weeks of testing I have developed a Windwos batch script to generate maps for Locus which are very close to maps probided by OpenAndroMaps. This script enables you to generate a topographic map for any area of the world.

The script and all necessary software will run on a "normal" Windows 10 PC. All details will be found on my website. Although the website is in German, you can translate the most parts easily and the script inself is mostly in English. You will find download links for the map-generation-script, all necessary other scripts and download links for all software packages.

The maps generated with this script will be named OpenOutdoorMap (OOM) . There is also a test-map for download.

I am happy to get any feedback und suggestions.

Regards
Bernard

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.6.+ ( 02/2022 )
February 02, 2022, 14:20:29
I've today published a new version of the Locus Map 4 on Google Play. Today only for 25% of users, rest in next days. If anyone wants to test & play with it (or with the Locus Map Pro version), they are all already available on Google Drive!

Just for your info, why I do not communicate often as usual. Well, winter, some team planning, family require also some more time now, some illness and working on the system for one-time payments that consume most of my (not just) time. So nothing special and unusual, but just informing that app is still in progress   8)

Stay all healthy and don't be too much hidden at home like me, it does not worth it  ;)

Other features / car routing then direct line
January 02, 2022, 21:06:41
Thank you for your efforts in this software, and I tried it and found it useful and wonderful, but in my country (Saudi Arabia) there are large desert areas without roads and sometimes we need to go to a place inside that desert, and BRouter and other routing solutions does not support routing for places where there are no roads, so I have a suggestion to implement a solution that other implementations have of route route and then put a direct line to the position that has no routes next to it, and this solution is found in many applications such as Navitel and Osmand (example):

I contacted the developer of BRouter and he replied that this option is only possible by application developers,see:
https://github.com/abrensch/brouter/issues/387

Is it possible to develop this feature to be available through your application LM Pro?
Thanks and regards
