read https://www.locusmap.app/heres-all-you-asked-us-during-the-last-two-weeks/ for more info on the upcoming enhancements to LoRouter

4.0.2.4 - addresses generated for navigation commands: verified/ thanks.

Now the inevitable next observation/ request - the Route Planner & "Mavigation mode" have two different concepts of "itinerary":

  • The Route Planner itinerary displays a list of Via points.
  • During navigation the itinerary displays a list of roads (addresses).
It could be very useful to merge these two lists, especially into the Route Planner itinerary (or a more compact form of it) so that the list of roads (addresses) can be more efficiently verified (corrected) before navigation is commenced.

ROUND TRIP:
Unless real utility can be found for this feature, integrating it with the options I wrote above (and all the complications of the case), it should be removed, useful and solid functionality better than things like this that do nothing but generate doubts in users.
@lor74cas I disagree on this aspect - although I doubt I'd use it much, I don't see that as a reason to remove it. In my limited desktop testing the results were interesting and within expectations.

The "generate" icon on the LHS (see screen cap) links to/ selects, the Locus navigation profile, so I assume this provides some degree of configuration to meet the desire of the user?

Web portal & sync / Re: Web planner / portal

When https://web.locusmap.app is first displayed, or refreshed, the #1-point textbox isn't selected, so the mouse cursor is a default arrow icon instead of a cross icon. The user is therefore prevented from quickly adding their first point to the map, which is confusing. I suggest the #1-point textbox is selected by default.

I had the same confusion, with nothing more than an error message to guide me.  I assumed (like others?) that you use that function after you've drawn the route to your destination, then it [does something magical] to get you back.

No, that's not the intent, you eventually figure out.  May I propose, "Suggest round trip"?
@Viajero Perdido - thanks so much - finally after a year I understand how this feature works - I had asked Menion a year+ ago when feature first implemented but never understood why it always failed.

"Suggest round trip" - yes better than "generate". How about "Suggest new round trip" to emphasize it really is a complete new route with just an optional starting point added by the user?

So to follow-up:

  • Why does this feature need an internet connection? It doesn't work with offline LoRouter. Maybe it uses GraphHopper - I see (1st time ever for me) the navigation itinerary has proper street names!
  • If TWO or more points are already set, please improve the unhelpful/ misleading error message "place A point on the map to define the start of your trip" - this implies adding another point, which clearly isn't going to work. Maybe "To suggest a new round trip, please add at most one starting point"?
  • Now imagine a user not happy with their 1st attempt to suggest a new round trip, so they change the distance, direction or profile parameters, and tap "Suggest" again. This time they get the same unhelpful message. Workaround - just tap Undo - easy when you understand what happens "behind the scenes". Or could Locus silently perform the Undo itself to make a more pleasant experience for the user?
  • The suggested circle (see screen cap) could be a little smaller so it is completely visible. Maybe this is only a tablet-landscape issue. It wasn't originally evident to me you could influence the suggested direction of the route because the arrow head was obscured under the top heading "Generate round trip".
Otherwise it looks like a very nice feature!

Well, played around with the syncing, back and forth, Route Planner, Track Editor - couldn't find any wrong behaviour whatsoever!  ;D ;D ;D
the Cloud Sync doco should be improved (written) asap so users like in this topic https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7334.msg63206#msg63206 & https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/24280-cant-save-a-planned-route-to-library-on-web-planner don't get confused/ better understand how it operates/ don't have an unnecessary bad experience/ don't loose data or have duplicated data ==> give undeserved reviews. Bad ratings don't help anyone.

Problem is that you have more than one point on the map. Reduce it to 0 or 1 and it will work.
@menion - thanks for reply, but now I am more confused - how can a route be generated (completed) if there is only 0 or 1 points in existing route? My route example had 2 points so far. I am just curious/ testing as I have no real use-case, but if the function is there it should be more intuitive so reduce the Locus team support load.

Street names, if I remember correctly, they are visible when computed over GraphHopper
ahh - GraphHopper - ok, But now BRouter/ LoRouter is the default navigation source, lots of users will have the same confusion & question. I wait in hope. Should I start a help topic for voting?

tested with LM4.0.2.3GOLD (again probably not directly related): Navigation - a test route has many roads & navigation points, using vector LoMap. Why are all 4 streets in the Itinerary "unknown" (see screen cap)? With LM3 I assumed this was related to BRouter, but I recently saw another screen cap, maybe from 0709, that showed real street names, so it must be possible. I can long-tap each road on the map screen & the name is correctly displayed, so the information is definitely there for LM4 to display in the itinerary. Am looking forward to a proper itinerary after all these years!!

tested with LM4.0.2.3GOLD (but probably not directly related): Route planner: Generate Round Trip > error: "Place a point on the map to define the start of your trip"? You can see from 2nd screen cap I already have point 1 (start of trip) and point 2 on the map, so what is the message trying to say?

@menion could what you have extensively written above go into some doco page (as soon as possible) you can reference/ link so you don't endlessly answer questions like this. At present https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?do=search&id=main&q=sync returns no results.

New Beta version 4.0.2.2 just uploaded to Google Drive.
I test automatic reports of crashes to "bugsnag" service
@Menion - nice system - does Locus device need to have Wifi or mobile data enabled at the precise time of any crash or the crash data cached then possible to upload later when comms are available?

"update layout of the points screen" - would be nice if panel (and track detail) can be swiped right to hide, consistent with other new panels eg Map-screen content, when a tablet is used in landscape mode

I received a notification I regards missing elevation data, which was correct. After I enabled Wifi I was still getting an error "No internet connection" - but this wasn't correct - other apps were happy with Wifi. Restarting Locus fixed the problem. It appears that if the connection isn't already open at the point of starting the download then Locus doesn't realize when the connection is subsequently made.

As well as this, half way thru downloading about 50 HGT files there was a 2nd (once-off) error "Bad gateway, code 502". Also note the garbled characters preceding the error code in the screen shot. After tapping the refresh icon, the remainder of the HGT files were downloaded.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't a comms issue on my end.

Beta version
damn, this is really complicated task now  :). Andrew, I probably see your crash in auto reporting system. Seems two users already have this problem. Reason? You probably set the bottom panel to full auto-hide and 4.0.2 does not know this option = crash  :-\.
@Menion - damn me too - didn't see your suggestion in time - I uninstalled 4.0.2 & reinstalled 4.0.1.1. Oh well. 4.0.2.1 - fixed - thanks.

new suggestion in settings > Search: color scheme for search textbox is hard to see - black text on grey background - see attached

and when displayed is turned off > on, refresh returns to previous settings screen, so search is lost.

4.0.2 caused me lots of grief, but 4.0.2.1 beta resolved the issues.

On my primary track & point creation device I do get very concerned when I see lots of progress saying "deleting..."

35+23+332+126 deletes? Really? The last manual sync was only a week ago & since then only 4 tracks created. After the sync I couldn't find any point or track deletions. After some more testing sync seems stable again thanks but my suggestions from yesterday of ways to improve the information displayed during progress & on completion in a summary still stand.
