not a bug or feature, just an interesting user interface design tradeoff

1) First waypoint is not selected - this is intended behavior. You have to intentionally start planning (right click -> start/finish here, select waypoint, add POI to the route) in order to active "routing mode"
@janaton - I find the user experience with BRouter-web (also RideWithGPS, plotAroute) much more intuitive - cursor is already a cross, simply click the 1st point & start. To me & I suspect other users, LoRouter-web is more confusing; the casual user asks themselves "why can't I just click this point to start my route?". Have you got 5 people into the room that haven't yet used LoRouter-web & asked them to create a route (most common use-case) and observed how easy/ hard they found the task?

finally the ability to quickly move to first & last point of a recorded track to see the starting & ending timestamps - thanks, great!

4.1.0 last line/ final street name of the test Route Planner itinerary is incorrect - see attached test GPX. The final line in the itinerary could be removed because the road is still Augusta Road, not Wellwood Street, or the final line should also be Augusta Road. See correct names in map screen cap.

@tapio
- appear of content after preset is set > you may notice on your video, that not just top toolbar, but also
I have also noticed this when the main menu button for last couple of weeks+, but haven't reported it yet; will confirm in latest version 1st

PS. I can't reproduce the problem in the latest public LM4.1 - fixed

  • Re-set of backup directory, in case you use a directory on the SD card, is expected. It has to be set again, sorry.
  • slow vector maps - interesting, noticeable difference?
  • Presets - V4+ themes - only "General" really exists. We do not have prepared more themes for V4 maps. Map screen content > Themes - display themes for currently active vector map, so you probably have LoMaps, so all V3 themes are available
  • itinerary - in the Route planner, side menu > Route stats > itinerary
@menion - thanks for all the checks/ replies

  • my phone doesn't have an SD card
  • slow vector maps - ahh yes - LoMap was using black background in video while refreshing, which is visually more noticeable but actually same amount of time as OpenAndroMap using a white background; now LoMap also has a white background - auto dark theme??
  • side menu > Route stats > itinerary - OK finally found it, thanks

I can also confirm a lag of 1 sec when tapping the main menu button.
FWIW near instant for me on all devices

I tried to do a screen recording, but you can't see when I tap anything, so it's not that helpful...
@slarti76 - check out Android settings > Developer Options > Show Touches (it's a long list - do a search instead) - this will then show taps in your screen recording.

4.0.2.7_1012_beta:

  • Route Planner > previous plan restored - map now zoomed/ panned to show whole route > Delete > please restore original zoom/ position - occurred 1st time but can't reproduce ;-(
  • I still observe Android "Locus App stopped" at exit - also occurred 1st time but can't reproduce ;-(
  • Each time I have to restore settings (luckily rarely) I notice the settings > Miscellaneous > Directories > Backup directory doesn't get restore & I have to reselect it? My custom export directory is restored correctly.
  • offline vector LoMap appears slower to refresh - while dragging there are more noticeable black boundaries - proof here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQStJnjaBlk
  • presets > edit > Map themes (V4+) - only General is displayed for Internal themes, whereas menu > Map Themes > Internal themes displays Hike/ Ski/ City/ Road
  • saved a recorded track without problems

itinerary is ... available in Route planner as well, as I wrote before
confirmed from track > More, but sorry Menion but can't find it anywhere in the Route planner?

@menion urgent help required please: I don't know if this is related to MapGooglePlay_4.0.2.5_1010_beta but I've never experienced this issue of not being able to save a track before due to "unknown problem". Not a very helpful error message BTW ;-( It was a simple use-case of track recording > track save. 100% ordinary. There is plenty of free memory; I've tried rebooting; I've tried pausing/ un-pausing; I've tried selecting different folders & activities. So at present I have no way of further track recording which is quite annoying (yes, my risk of beta testing).

I next installed the latest 4.0.2.6 but the same problem. I note when exiting Locus there is the expected orange "paused" msg but then a generic Android error message "Locus Map has stopped; Close App " (no other details). I have captured & emailed a bug report to you.

I next uninstalled 4.0.2.6 & installed (revert to) MapGooglePlay_4.0.2.4_1008_beta which was working yesterday w/o this problem, and now I was able to save the track, phew, although now have to fix/ restore a lot of settings.

I exported the track & checked with Windows Garmin BaseCamp & looks 100% OK.

One last note: when I now go to the track list I can see that each attempt to save the track was actually successful, despite the error to the contrary - I have 10+ identical tracks. I will leave Locus w/o attached subscription account & not make any setting changes for now, in case the current settings/ state could be of interest to you.

4.0.2.5

  • track list > tap track > Navigation > immediately returns to track list instead of displaying navigation screen (impossible to navigate)
  • release notes say "option to display route itinerary directly from new track detail screen" - from previous discussion I thought the new route itinerary was going to be accessible from the Route Planner menu?
  • What is the most efficient way to display details of 1st & last point of a track; especially the starting/ end timestamp? I have suggested a few times that long-tap on << & >> move quickly to 1st & last points.
  • existing track > Route Planner > menu > Generate round trip > unhelpful error message

so the point is to display the navigation itinerary in the Route planner. To simply see navigation commands and street names there.
yes

Because of the need for a quick overview over added points that define navigation and the possibility to quickly drag & drop, this is not a good idea from my point of view.
agreed

What comes to my mind > option to display "itinerary" directly in the new track detail (as another option in the bottom menu). With this, you should also check the detailed navigation itinerary with Route planner > Menu > Route stats > itinerary. It this a possible solution for you?
perfect ;-)

...or calculate a round trip with all the already defined points, if possible...?
@sbouju - the service is provided online by 3rd party GrafHopper, so not within control of Locus team. It only works with zero or one defined point; not more... It needs an improved/ more helpful error message.

Both "itineraries" have different use-case. In the route planner, it is mainly about the option to see all segments on one screen and the option to change easily it's order. In the active navigation route planner, it is about a common itinerary known from bigger navigation apps.
@Menion - for me it's the same use-case otherwise I wouldn't have suggested. For me it's to efficiently see the whole planned route (shaping, Via points, segments and road names), sometimes by confirming a known road name has been chosen (or not). At present my planning workflow is Route Planner > Save > Navigation (dummy test) > Itinerary > confirm {> Route Planner etc.}.

Can't imagine how to merge them to be true  ???
to merge in code or visually? I'd agree with @T-mo. Sometimes just a simple/ concise (textual) itinerary list without graphics would be perfect; other times the existing more detailed Route Planner itinerary is also perfect.

BTW my only two suggestions for the round trip generator were

  • change "Generate round trip" to "Suggest new round trip"
  • if more than one point is already defined, change the error message "Place a point on the map to define the start of your trip" to "To suggest a new round trip, please add at most one starting point"

4.0.2.4 - addresses generated for navigation commands: verified/ thanks.

Now the inevitable next observation/ request - the Route Planner & "Mavigation mode" have two different concepts of "itinerary":

  • The Route Planner itinerary displays a list of Via points.
  • During navigation the itinerary displays a list of roads (addresses).
It could be very useful to merge these two lists, especially into the Route Planner itinerary (or a more compact form of it) so that the list of roads (addresses) can be more efficiently verified (corrected) before navigation is commenced.
