I've been watching BubblerGPS' progress for a little while. It's the application that uplaods current locations to Spotwalla. I've also been watching MapMyTracks progress too. They're working fairly well, and would be a great addition to the functionality of Locus.

The UI for setting up Live Tracking in Oruxmaps is via email, and would really be welcomed (for me) if it were part of Locus setups for Live Tracking.

Would this be possible, or has it been done already and I just need to input server and GET values ?

Thanks ! :)

yesterday, i decided i wanted to track HR, and today, you shared your app. THANKS !

do you have any recommendations for good/cheap HR monitors, and any additional information about whether ANT or bluetooth is better for battery life ?

thanks again, when people write apps, we all LOVE them for it !

Hi,

1 weird. You tried to restore backups from directory "backup/auto"? Because there should be stored automatic backups (not manual), that have to contains also point/track database.

2 Files only in "backup" directory are manual backups you should do by yourself and there depend if you choose in Locus "Complete backup" or just "Backup settings".

3 Btw. content of backups may be simple check manually. It is simple "zip" file so feel free to open it in any archive tool.

4 Databases for points/tracks are stored in data/database directory.

1 yes, i tried all of the files in /mnt/ext_sdcard/Locus/backups/xxxx   and they all reset the preferences of the application, but the 300 tracks and 3-4000 waypoints were not there. there were SOME tracks and waypoints, but about 10% of what should have been. i thought it was weird too, because I've used that before and it used to work, very well.

2 ok, i'll remember this

3 i'll remember this too

4 thanks ! i finally found this will looking through directories on another phone. i  copied those directories to my day-to-day phone, and BINGO all my tracks (minus a month or so) were back. in the future i will upload my /data/database* to Google Drive on a weekly basis, just in case.

again, thank you very much for the help. i've deleted the old /mnt/sdcard/Locus directory and started fresh with the imported (from other phone) database, and things are good again. it's really nice to know that everything can be transfered so easily, and there are no proprietary formats to slow things down.

soooo, thanks

Hi,
I was wondering if this setup will save my smartphone battery. I want to buy GPS Receiver that will be powered from my 7800mah PowerBank and communicate with the smartphone over bluetooth. Will this be a battery saver for smartphone? Did anyone use this kind of setup or similar? Any suggestions for GPS device? Thanks in advance!

I've tracked for days without issue, while in airplane mode. the largest battery drain i've seen is, order highest to least:

1 poor cellular signal (if using online maps = a factor of 2-3 times higher drain)
2 display on
3 music/mp3
4 bluetooth (streaming to headset)
.
.
.
9 or 10 locus recording a track

The bluetooth devices are $50-100, and another failure point. I don't want to keep up with my cellphone battery, and I sure don't want to keep up with another devices battery along with it. Then there are the annoyances with bluetooth.... is it tracking now ? am I sure ? is it's battery dead ? etc

I can track for a solid day easily, in airplane mode, in the woods. that's longer than my body usually wants to keep moving. when i rest, i charge the phone.

What do you mean?
Please let me know what you think.  The map becomes a bit ugly or?  ;D
they're beautiful.
but... too much color / arrows can make a TRACK layed over the trails hard to determine which is the track, and which is the map's trail. just something to think about. :)

I have backup manager turned on, for months now.

I have two Locus directories:
phone storage /mnt/sdcard/Locus

and

external sdcard (micro sdcard) storage /mnt/ext_sdcard/Locus

I tried to recover from both the /mnt/sdcard/Locus and the /mnt/ext/sdcard/Locus backups, but neither of them restored my waypoints  or tracks i've recorded over the years. The only way I got the data back was to WifiDirect the entire /mnt/sdcard/Locus directory from another phone, which I normally sync the directories between.

Questions:
Have I misunderstood the purpose of Locus Autobackup ?
Can, or does it backup waypoints and tracks, or should I be zipping the entire ~/Locus directory to a safe place weekly ?

If you would like to provide me the exact location of, and how to restore, the waypoint/tracks databases I would really appreciate that.

Thanks !

(and sorry for the long read) :)

Themes - Vector maps / Re: [Theme] V-Scale2_Pure

It's a known issue with Locus Store maps. The problem occurs elsewhere as well, but the following edit solves it.
In V-Scale2_Pure.xml, find (near the start of the file)
<rendertheme xmlns="http://mapsforge.org/renderTheme" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://mapsforge.org/renderTheme ../renderTheme.xsd" version="1" map-background="#ffffff">

and change to
<rendertheme xmlns="http://mapsforge.org/renderTheme" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://mapsforge.org/renderTheme ../renderTheme.xsd" fill-sea-areas="0" version="1" map-background="#ffffff">

hey, thanks for that ! is this a universal theme fix, or just V-Scale_Pure  ?

I made a copy of my non pro version before upgrading to pro, just in case. The terms of the length of the free period wasn't very clear, so I'm being careful.

I use locus for hiking, Geo caching, mountain biking, enduro (motorcycling), car navigation, and of course all the general tacking features.

Generally , I don't use voice navigation prompts at all for anything but on road navigation, in a car.

For everything else I just follow that route/track and/or use waypoint guidance instead of voice prompts. It's so much easier to see a turn coming up on the trail and then glance at the map , for me, than to try and figure out which of the trail head is "two hundred feet" away from the voice commands.

Just an idea.

Hello,

if you plan to do some downgrades, best is to keep APK files as a personal backup. Anyway in worst case, I may upload for you older version of Locus to Dropbox. Anyway I generally prefer to fix/improve any problems then distribute older versions.

all versions would be nice,  please!

I keep backups with titanium backup,  but some of my friends don't have rooted phones, so a repository of previous versions would very helpful.

Thanks gynta for your help.

@ohgood: if you find an exact steps that cause mess in track, let me know, so I can simulate same issue on my device and fix it. Thanks!

so far I think it's my own doing.  tracks have been edited after the fact to fix the over laps and double crosses.  I Didn't realize this until I started looking at which ones were problematic.

once you have it please delete my post that carried the attachment.  thank you
sure
'think you've changed the source manually and something went wrong
After delete this part (line 25678 to 25717) all works fine (here).

wrong things in next post...
ohhhhhhhhh now I know why !
I've been editing tracks (in locus) and everyone with basecamp has complained the tracks were broken.  I couldn't find a reason,  so I told them basecamp sucked.

oops
