Do you have the latest version from TODAY?
That opens free storage selection, at least for mapsVector (which I tried successfully), SRTM (mayne, did not try), not maps (for me).
But even in the older versions since Nov. you can select int or ext SD private storage.
That is very flexible and helps balancing the capacities.
(It has other limitations, hence the very latest approach.)

Hi Menion,
first try on my Tab:
- migration of mapsVector to old root level folder where the backup had stayed has worked
- theme function are fast again
- after restart I also tried to move maps folder - this function is missing
- then I tried mapsVector again, to move to /Android/media
- initializing for "Set custom sub-durectories" takes forever
- after maybe 10 minutes I get the options
- touching custom selection does not do anything, so I cannot move to /Android/media
- tried to activate logging - fail as before
Here is the sequence of events with resp. photos:
1) long tab to menu opens the tools selection - looks same as logging-3.jpg
2) switching on the interesting options - logging-1.jpg - so far so good
3) now the essential step: switch on logging to file - but the Locus reaction smells like the opposite - logging-2.jps
4) going back we are where we started - logging-3.jpg - bummer ...
Cheers
Michael

POI's / Re: Undisplay all preexisting POI

For that purpose I added a function to my (right) panel: a struck through eye symbol.

Only Asamm could do that for Locus, but they said Google is not responsive or supportive, so they did not try.
Hopefully the approach via /Android/media will work and be performant on both, int and ext SD. Then, with some other smaller changes the pain and turmoil should be over.
Fingers crossed!

Well, this access required this strongly regulated permission.
To me the braindead thing is to forbid access to root level folders. For sensitive stuff they could and should restrict access to private folders. And app developers should use these places for sensitive stuff.
But something like /Locus was never private in the sense of secrets or security challenge.

There is a difference between int and ext SD private folders.
Google did not only create this mess by they new policy, they also failed to implement the MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE in a consistent way.
Hence even x-plore which has this permission cannot  write files to ext SD private folders, but it can create folders ...
PC USB connect is the only way so far.

From Android 11 on (API 3ß+) it has been GOOGLE breaking working solutions by their silly and shortsighted changes.

I understood from earlier posts that the access to EXT SD content is less efficient and the order API calls are no longer available. I saw that too, when installing themes on ext SD via Locus Actions from OAM. Hence my dirty idea. Pity it did not work.
But it would be up to Menion to always look at int SD mapsVector for themes, even if the maps are on ext SD.
@Menion: what is your judgement, pls. ?

Maybe a really dirtry trick could help - 50:50 chance; I'd guess:
I found that when you move maps/Vector to extSD, LM 4 still screens intSD private mapsVector.
x-plore, Solid explorer and TC can work wizth intSD (on many, maybe not all) devices.
So you may copy the theme folder to intSD. I found x-plore can delete folders on extSD. Hopefully, after a deletion of the themes from extSD Locus would use the ones found on intSD mapsVector.
The mapsVector SETIING however should stay with extSD inside Locus, becasue there is no other way to get maps to extSD...
Good luck
Cheers
Michael

PS: I found the same pain on my Tab S6 lite (also reported it), but have not found time to try above (because it only came to my mind when I read your report :-)

What I can confirm is:
- maps and mapsVector on ext SD
- ALL of data on intSD
- even maps and mapsVector on int SD are used, but not for new downloads
- I cannot comment on the geocaching; I would assume you cannot mix /data components between int and ext

@Menion, @Petr: on S10 I downloaded the same OAM file (again) to my S10 (OAM-World-1-11-J60.mbtiles) with the n-1 versions (LMP and LM4), not migrated. Just works.

Go to A52, latest version (LMP): error message now " unknown problem", initially "Cannot obtain zoom levels ". Both with the file on int or ext SD.

That is happening when selecting which way to go.

I tried so many things on 3 devices throughout the day, but I did not take systemtic notes. My recollection is:
- if there is a map that is bigger than the free space, then you cannot go there. Even if you move between places on the same storage. Seems you do  copy/delete pairs, not a linux style mv. The documentation should warn about that scenario, or Locus should even tell which file that is (because I think Locus knows the details, because the grand total cannot trigger a no-go).
- if you have maps or mapsVectoron on extSD and chose have the main folder on intSD, then there is a good chance that the combined size will not fit into intSD (there is a reason people use extSDs :-)
Here I propose that you leave any file on the storage where it is before, only move to private space.
A user can easily comprehend that, because they moved maps (raster and/or vector) to different places in the firts place.

My bottom line from hours of testing today ...

Cheers
Michael

Sonst Essig ...
