Just saw you note and the new beta - already downloaded and being started.
What is disturbing is that an "OAM" folder on ext SD is being searched. But such folder is nowhere configured in LM4 nor in LMP - and it does not exist on the system at all. (Maybe it did in the past, before the migration, I do not recall.)
But Locus must have some config file or DB where such invalid data survives ...

What I kind of sensed from Menion remarks is that Locus READS those media folders (I will try myself near term with more maps).
However, the storing - and I suppose also the updating and the check for updates - only runs against the official mapsVector setting.
Have you moved that to media as well? I mean the mapsVector sub-folder?
I'd call above an educated guess - we'll learn from your trying :-)))

Schritt 3) https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:devices_older_android&s[]=old&s[]=version

And a racing bike is not too much slower :-)

@Menion: your latest beta also fixed the logging enabling; now I'm able to deliver: a jpg showing the sub-folder setu, with /Locus on int SD as base folder
And you'll find two log files that document the 4 minute startup time.
I found some file paths that do not exist on that device. No idea where they comes from and persist ...
TXs and cheers

but as expected, this should not be allowed to such kind of app at all
...

Given the unprofessional carelessness of the Google architects, I can agree only in principle, but not in practical terms. They simply forgot use cases beyond pictures and videos, and ignored hard performance requirements when it comes to SD.
Hence I consider it just adequate that as a temporary remedy they grant such permission.
And if /Android/media show prove to be the magic wand (fast in any case, no delete at uninstall), then they should have promoted that as "best practise" for above use cases.

Fingers crossed ...

I do agree that a disruptive change of the themes approach can create problems for the installed base.
But there is more than one way to introduce change without damage:
1) let the old and new system co-exist, i.e.
- all new installs shall use the new system
- at start, Locus looks for the new location first
- and searches the traditional location(s) if above fails
- telling the user (s)he has an old setup that should be "renovated" by their theme provider
This way the old system will die out silently, without harm to anybody.
The real harm around themes happend if current mapsVector is on private ext SD. And if that setup can be avoided, the pressure is gone.
I have not tried the ZIP way on private ext SD, though.

Anyone has measured the behaviour?

2) a more aggressive is enforced normalizing:
- whenever Locus finds traditional setups, it converts them to the new approach at startup
- telling the user what needed to be done /and has been done) and asking the user to inform the source of the theme to adapt to the new scheme
This would root out the old setups pretty quickly.

Anyway, I agree this is not the most burning topic ... :-)
Cheers

Troubles & Questions / Re: Offline map help
December 20, 2021, 23:44:27
There is a beta version that overcomes the problem triggered by Google's Android 11 changes.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1t1CYpIhHGZXjNBqOFUPQKTTvddj7VVCv
That is only for LM4.

If you have LM Pro, or if you have LM4 but want a stable version, go back to the respective Sept. version and avoid updates for the next few weeks. And have a look for news about next stable version.

#430
@Menion: with 3.56.3 the log activation does not work either (Rena's A52) but here the detail dialog does not show up. In the moment you tap the "disabled" to change the setting, the KEY_B_... message pops up in the middle, and the green deactivated message comes and goes.
#431
#433
Quickest way is a downgrade to 3.5.5 (2021-09)
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U8U1D-NGQ9CAnqXAkleEXi46wH2T7tMR

As you have no time debug.

The 3.5.5 can access all the folders on ext SD.
If the migration has moved some things in the wrong place, use x-plore or Solid Explorer or Total Commander to put them in the right location carefully - or a PC/USB connect.

Good luck. And nice travels.
#434
@bezel: you are posting in various places about your problem. Do you have a systematic picture of the setup of your device?
- Android level
- Locus update when, from which version
- which migration has been performed, if any (i.e. which base folder, any custom sub-directories)
-- manual attempt
-- or inside Locus

I have one device with latest LM4 and LMP, and also LMP can store OAM maps via Locus Action (install link in OAM)
#435
Hi Andrew,
someone had such in LMP as well last week or early this week.
The path is fully broken and blocks any user action with it.
Need to leave that to Menion.
Cheers
Michael
