1. New version "stops" (crashes) unaccountably from time to time. Possibly linked with moving map centre(?) :(
2. Cannot access the different styles of custom themes in new version. Tried a phone restart but no difference. I've checked bug on both Tobias's Elevate/Elements and my Voluntary themes -- there seems no way to access the Styles menu. Connected to changelog item: "fix: incorrect icons of popup menu selector of custom themes" (?) >:(
Edit: Styles pop up menu still works on Mapsforge v4 maps.

(1.) Very very little bug in cache detail screen and new premium member cache information. Look here (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/premium-member-only#comment-65449).

(2.) Confirm 2. of john_percy post. I can select a custom theme, for example "Elements LE" for OAM Maps, but I can not acces the different styles of that theme like "Radfahren", "Wandern", ... anymore.

And I started to worry, that new version will be without issues :)

Thx for the update. The preset loading delay is annoying. It feels like an artificial time waster. I change them a lot.

I know it adds an additional two seconds delay, on the second side, it was in beta test for more than two weeks and you are first who complain. I'm also not yet 100% happy with it so "complain registered" :)

And issue with icon ... I noticed it as well. I do the major change of all app icons from SVG to special vector format and you found hopefully the last issue in it. Thanks

2nd to (very mild) complain ;-)

I didn't see this new behavior in latest beta? i.e. tap preset & green msg displayed; a while back toast? msg was ~2s then recent beta the msg was a very brief flash. I'd like no msg at all. Very minor issue (for me) but agree with @tapio seems a time waster.

I don't see the need for a message. If user taps a preset, he knows that he does it and he sees it is happening. No need to explain. I mean, time wasters could be everywhere. "Hello user, you are now entering the options". "Hello user, you are now leaving the Locus store".

No need for that. We're not Apple users!?!

I also think the confirmation question in Route Planner, "Do you really want to recalculate all" is unnecessary. I mean, until that point, I already expressed my wish twice. I don't need to tell about my will for a third time!  I always think "awww, menion, c'mon, really?" 😁
If user decides against it, he can already exit the prior window where you choose the (brouter) profile. And on top of that, there is Undo.

Is GPSies integration broken? Whatever I search for, I get no results.
I really wish for a good integration. Then with Locus' "favourites" functionality, I wanted to find all tracks around the map center, within a specific range, with specific properties, but the results weren't good. In a way gpsies api supports some stuff, but the presentation did not work. See link below.

If the Locus/Gpsies interface could support track search around map center... something common imo...

Heh, oki. Confirmation message reduced to small toast visible over the map for a while, but not anymore caused delay in closing "Presets" screen.

I consider confirmation in Route as important. a) It is needed only rarely, b) function may cause a lot of tasks on background, log of internet request and a big delay in the workflow. Definitely bigger than simple on/cancel dialog.

Problem with GPSies? Cannot simulate, for me it works correctly. What settings should I use? Map center coordinates + screenshot of "search screen" may help. Thanks

Are there any changes regarding Url-handling in favourites in the current version? I can't get locus-actions urls to work from favourites anymore.
In current version, if I click on a favorite containing a locus-actions url, I get an orange toast saying something like "could not find a suitable application for this action".
This definitely worked in the last version (locus-actions urls were handled without problems)!

Version 3.35.1 restores the style pop-up menu, thanks.
However the map themes I set previously in presets are not applied, though they show on the details of the preset. I had to edit the preset and reselect the theme, then it worked.

3.35.1: on an Android 8.1 phone a change of presets now displays the old preset change msg (again) for a ~2s "Preset X loaded & all preferences set", but on an Android 7 tablet a change of presets now doesn't display any msg. I vote for this latter UX, but my point is behavior is different on two different devices.

I've tested it on Android 7.0 and notification was visible. Do not know what may cause it anyway I think it is unimportant :). If remove or not ... system of Presets may be a little complicated for some users, so this notification may help a little to understand that is really just setup some settings to defined values, nothing more. If it really helps or not, hard to say.

Hi,

I don't know if it is specific to this version, but there seems to be a problem with showing details of imported gpx tracks when there are newlines (\n) in the <desc></desc> part of the track.
There is an infinite scrolling and/or flickering visible in the track detail screen under the description text.

Imported points from gpx files with newlines in the <desc> seem to be displayed ok!

Hmm I was just yesterday looking on something similar and I think this should be solved.

One more bug fix version (minor fixes + support for new Galaxy Watch add-on) will be published in monday. I'm anyway using little different method last months so only minor fixes compare to base version are published. And this is bigger, not perfectly tested change so it will be published later in Beta version and not in bug-fix version next week. Thanks for understanding.

This is WAY too difficult and hidden. Compare with Brouter online, where you just drag and drop. Please consider making it much easier!

My idea: when I tap a WP, that grey overlay screen appears with all the commands in the bottom. You could make the top map view ready for dragging. Ie, if we drag the map there, the WP follows the map center.
Currently, tapping the top area just exits.

Not too complicated for me, it's just different. But playing with RP I found this little bug:
Create a track from A to B
Insert a point in the middle of second type, the square one.
Look at elevation chart in guide mode at the place of middle point the graph breaks.
If you remove the mid point graph ok.

Another little bug, language change, countdown for restart, nothing happens. Manual restart ok language changed.

There's some trouble with hill shading in Mapsforge version 4 - some portions of tiles are missing at some zooms.
Map is OAM Great Britain, theme is internal.

@tapio - I sort of agree with @lor74cas - after tapping the WP, the zoom +/- buttons are grayed out, but often I want to zoom as well as pan when re-positioning the WP. Your proposal is only useful for a minor position change?

Yes, probably, I see your point. But still I think moving WP is essential and should be as easy as possible. The most often action, correction if the auto created route...

I realized, sometimes drag+drop works, somehow? But I never liked that magnifying glass method. With that zoom and your finger on screen, I have not a good overview.

Edit: it works, when a wp is quickly dragged. Here, while dragging, one also cannot change zoom.

Version 3.35.1: Automatic Restart after ,,clear temporary data" or "change language" don't work.

agree, very error prone

Probably not strictly related to 3.35.1 but I recently observed the satellite map "Last GPS fix" correctly incrementing every second, and  yet there were no satellites on the map for nearly 20s - most odd. So where were these GPS fixes coming from?

Complains about magnifier: I personally found it useful, which is why I do not see problems related to it. Any suggestion how to visualize moving point better? Btw. drag&drop works, it is just needed to move with point immediately, do not wait (otherwise long-click is performed and here comes bug).

@Andrew Heard , why no sats on screen? Do no know ... Locus Map just display received data from system :)

now there are excellent alternatives to tap/ drag with magnifier it doesn't bother me.

The magnifying glass is a nice piece of software, it certainly produces an effect of amazement in the user when first used.
But for example, if you have to move the point on the top or left edges of the screen becomes uncomfortable because the lens leaves the screen, also happens rarely that the possibility of moving the point is not activated.
I prefer to select a track point and from the command menu choose move, then move the point and confirm the new position. In this way I use the zoom already present or the two-finger mode, it is much more precise and the procedure remains the same. This is just my point of view, for sure there are users with habits or maybe different devices that prefer the magnifying glass.

My most prefered way of moving things is per map center position. Because there we have the best overview and we can zoom. Move per map center: Which is currently too far away.
I think a dedicated "move mode" would be awesome, which, if map center is close to the track, automatically  highlights either waypoints or, if somewhere in the track, the closest trackpoint. Highlight by just hovering it.
In this mode, there should be a hand button, which toggles between holding and releasing that point.
And on releasing, if it was just a trackpoint, auto create a WP. Movement of points by moving map.

Just my 2c. Because I am convinced, moving points - doing track corrections - is most essential.

As for the new version: The "Navigate reversely" checkbox is a great time saver, thank you! The warning is rather useless for hiking in the open wild... maybe just warn once?

I guess it's because of the offline addresses in the south map which are not part of the whole Germany map...

@balloni55 The Germany (Complete) really doesn't contain the offline addresses and for this reason has DB file lower size then current Germany South LoMap

and today i wondered that content of e.g
germany complete vs germany_south
is not identically.... :(
why????
i found the reason, some LoMaps are not "up to date"
most LoMaps are updated 6.11.2018 :)
but
- germany complete is outdated 5.6.2015
- Switzerland is outdated 30.12.2015
- Austria is outdated 1.4.2016

OK, this date is visible in description,
anyway i think a popup "please note map date" if this date is older than x months  while purchase/update will be honestly for customer.

Germany (Complete) - isn't updated for couple of years and it's not possible to purchase it. You can see it and download it because you purchased couple years ago. But the new users can obtain only Germany South/North that are regularly updated.
Switzerland and Austria - should be available in the latest 2018.11.06 version - would you please share screenshot from Locus Store > Austria LoMap. Can you see the blue "update" button?

Ohh thank you for screenshot. I check your account and there is an explanation:
- the Germany Complete is in state "hidden if not available for user"  It means that for the new user is hidden but user that purchased this map earlier, can see it
- the hidden if not available" map can be still downloaded but also updated and that's the problem
I can see that you purchased Germany Complete map in 2014 , for this reason you can see this map in the store and also you can update it. The question is if should be possible to update map that is hidden ... I'll need to think about it. However I'll refund LC for update, is non-sense to use map three years old.

down right "weather" can be changed to another option, the new option can be used once but on next opening "Quick action menu" "weather" is back again. Changes of all other buttons are stored.

sorry i can't figure it out in case of geocache
where should be the search text found?

- Logs?

e.g.
inside Data/Points i have stored ~50 geocaches from owner "Wichtel"  and inside most of these listings word "Wichtel" is also inside listing/log text.
If i "search full text" with this term i get only 8 hits ???

ah, "Quick action menu" ... it is accident that it appear in Beta version :). It is a small secret function for one hardware device. Purpose of this menu is to open it by intent from a hardware controller (on bike/motorcycle) and by direction arrow quickly choose a certain item. Anyway thanks for bug report > fixed.

Search options: in case of geocaching, full-text search checks in "owner", "country", "state" and "short" and "long" descriptions. As I see, there may be a small issue in case-sensitivity (fixed now) so rather check if you use correct letter cases.

Is searching also in logs good idea? Quite a lot of text > may be false positive results + increased search time (maybe a lot).

- unfortunately, I'm unable to simulate these issues.
Chart: not too serious problem and because I plan to change chart engine, let it be.
Restart: works on two devices I've tried. Anyway, I've increased restart timeout from 4 to 5 seconds, which may help here. Dialog disappears probably after three secs, so just wait a little longer.

When you touch restart, Locus closes, but after the countdown it does not restart automatically, you must start it manually. This is not a big problem either, but it simply does not start as expected

Yes, I understand this problem, it just does not happen on my devices. Will try it next week. We have a our usual, from time to time, company meeting in Prague, so more devices to test :).

I confirm this too.

I cannot add waypoints to existing tracks. "+" is missing.

I think I reported problems with the automatic backup before, but it's still not ok:
I have several devices where backup is turned off, but it is still executed. It's always when I have Free and Pro installed together. One thing that seems to happen very often is that a backup is done after a phone restart even if turned off. I can't give much more info, unfortunately, as I rarely see the actual backup notification, I just see the backups piling up in their folder.
Also, the GUI is still buggy: The date shown ("Next update") is obviously the last "next date" before I turned of backups. Now when I open the dialog after that date, I can't press "Save" because of the old date, even if backups are turned off. The whole date widget should be deactivated then, I'd say...

- problem with automatic restart most probably still not solved. I'm still unable to simulate it properly.
- @slarti76, thanks for the info about the backup manager. As I know, it works correctly for me, but I'll try to play with it a little bit.

What about an advanced filter for tracks ?
Now there is just name and date.
I think that distance and elevation gain are very important too.
Something to find out:
How many tracks wirh more then 20 km and more than 1000 mt of elevation I did this year?

Yes, filters and search is rather a weak spot in Locus.

V3.35.2.4: I noticed "updated POI alerts" in the release notes, so I did a trivial test. I like the layout. But tapping the big green play button was being ignored. Maybe because GPS is disabled? There was no helpful warning message though so confusing what was wrong. I'm unable to include an inline screen capture for some reason, so attached? Is this a forum change - there used to be a link below the editor to select an IMG?

As for the POI warner, an option to read max n POI would be nice. Often there's 2 or 3 and then Locus reports "2 points in range". But I'd be fine if it reads out both.

I've just today highly improved search in tracks (by distance) and also added "sort by nearest" option for track folders, so hope this helps better handle own imported tracks.

About filtering: I agree that filter for tracks is a lot less powerful then filter for points (mainly caches), but reason: I do not see any useful simply and exactly defined idea on help desk related to this problem, which means for me: no serious interest. And as usually: if I do not need & no interest = not implemented, sorry :).

notification about more than one point will do not contain info about distance & angle. Not sure if this is wanted. I think that more than one point simply need a map. Notification just helps to find the right moment, when to look on the map.

@menion - I did try this many times but took a lot more than just a few taps. Then when it was finally enabled (red button) it also took a lot more than just a few taps to toggle to green. But on another occasion it worked first time.

One idea, maybe worth a separate topic (?) is the idea to handle color of POI alert button same as GPS & Track Record buttons - now that GPS & Track Record buttons are both green to indicate working/ enabled, how about making the POI alert button green when enabled too?

Yes works as an attachment, but the inline method of including an image was quicker & meant you could place the image at a logical position within the text - seems like a backward step (although usable).

- problem with tap on buttons in POI alert solved. I've also improved icon so it will be in function panel green in case, POI alert is running. Thanks for tip.

in my "test preset" i set content auxiliary graphics "course line" and "heading line" and switch both on.
In all other of my presets no auxiliary grafic is set.
If i use these "test preset" once and switch back to another preset, inside all of them these both  lines are visible :-[
Restart didn´t solve it, i have to disable both lines inside settings/maps/auxiliary graphics

I'll try it simply:
- every preset has predefined list of supported settings (settings that change)
- by activating preset, all these settings are applied
- ... and that's all

What happens to you is that one preset change these two options "on". And they just stay "on" because of no other preset set it "off".
Better?

Understand your use-case. You need a) create a preset that simply turn any extra settings "off" or b) set these two lines "off" in all other presets. Hm ...

New Beta version 3.35.2.6 RC is out.

If you find the time, give a try to improved "search for tracks" and also sorting tracks in the folders.

wouldn´t it be more understandable and simpler for user if there is one "master setting" as a basis for all presets with complete available preset content and user select/deselect/modify each preset?

3.35.2.6: Sorting: 157 tracks, sort by Closest, 34s on new tablet. Sort by Distance to Start is <1s but sort by Distance to End is ~10s. On mid range Samsung phone, 173 tracks, sort by Closest 23s, sort by Distance to End 4s. I don't mind because I'd rarely sort by anything but creation date. But more concerning - if currently sorted by Closest, then when display turned off then on again, the sort (Loading...) is performed again. Can this be avoided?

Search in Data Manager: nice feature. It doesn't appear results are in any useful sorted order?

not sure if "master present" will be more logical to be true. It will still need an explanation. Also, you may simply do such "master preset". I never found an ideal system.

My times are massively higher, as I have tons of data from recent years.
Questions to Menion:
- did you introduce the bounding boxes for tracks that we discussed months ago (min/max in each dimension, as part of the track data model) ?
- computing the distance of a point to any bounding box rectangle (representing a track) is a simple formula rather than traversing 1000s of points
- if you then limit the number of items for the result (like your "first 10, 25, 100, ... or so in other places of Locus) the search will be really fast, as you get the right "candidates" cheaply.

Maybe you do such already, but the high amount of tracks is still killing. In particular as there are no restrictions to a folder or so, right ?

no, nothing like this is done. It was the first quick attempt which gave for me 300 MB database times below 10 seconds. Interesting that your times are so much higher. Maybe database handling in Android 9 is so much faster? Anyway as I do it now, seems this is not the correct way. Other possibilities require an update in the database and a lot more work. Hmm, shame ...

Half related: I have never exactly looked at it - Does Locus ever do database compacting or will it stay bloated, if, say, I delete all entries?

PS: even if compressed: my tracks-DB is 800 MB meanwhile. So I'd prefer to have a read-only version (with older data, or whatever selection criteria) on external SD, while the "active" tracks-DB would stay where it is.
This would imply that there is a Locus copy job from the active to the secondary one.
Any thoughts ?

In folders there is:
sort for current folder
filter for current folder

In / of data manager there is a filter for all track folders

In this way you can filter all folders or one folder, slow or quick but all depends on how many tracks do you have in the folder.

Oh, seems like Menion has got a lot of work to do.  :D Both on database side and UI. E.g., as for the UI, as a user I espect searching for tracks/points to (also) be accessible via the data manager - not necessarily I go to the general search page, where it currently resides.

So does Locus do database maintainance? Like, compacting?

And @tapio, no, no optimization on the database is done in app. SQLite re-use empty spaces in DB after removing content, so some kind of "VACUUM" should not be needed. I have tested it on my maybe 5 year old DB and the result was > size reduced from 250 MB to 240 MB and DB benchmark: no result.

hmm, I had in the evening improved speed by maybe another 25%, so next version.
Key? The method is not 100% precise. It searches for nearest trackpoint of tracks. So in case, you will have track points every 500 meters, it may return little incorrect results. But in normal usage, where points are usually every 10 - 50 meters, it should be really precise and mainly FAST :).

In my 1st testing the new sorting is huge improvement over previous version. Well done @menion.

I've made some final improvements and just published the new Beta version, so if anyone interested ... feel free to try it.

We will publish a new final version most probably on Tuesday, so if there will be any problems that worth it to fix, please let me know.

I liked the new "Quick action menu" button in the latest beta versions. It allows you to unload the top and right panel. I hope it will be a stable release.

In beta, comparing to last release:
- wider font in header, and it doesn't fit sometimes.
- no cutting and three dots in menu

More thoughts related to new styled POI alerts:

• It's not very obvious that advanced settings are accessed by tapping on the "Notify when..." label
• I have selected my own OGG sound file for notifications and used 30s pause between notifications, but in testing I could clearly hear two notification sounds at different times, one a short (default?) beep, and at other times my own selected sound file
• When the short beep is heard the red STOP button is not displayed. I found that when I deleted the (test) point for the alert, the STOP button was immediately  displayed. Something seems not quite right.

Today after the phone boot immediately  started a backup on gdrive. But I stopped it because it tried to copy hgt files. This is the 1st time I see such behaviour. I do not know if is due to gdrive, locus or last security phone update. I stopped in beta and pro the autobackup option.

Me too. I don't find this a very helpful change where screen real estate is at a premium.

you are the second who wrote me that he likes this panel. It was published more an accident than intent. Its main purpose is for quick access to functions over hardware controller mounted on the bike for example.

I'm still not sure it should be published as the regular function in the app because it duplicated functions panels.

thanks, both issue should be fixed now. It was the side effect of the change in one core library. I was able to "hack" is to good old font spacing.

click on notify panel is not obvious, I know. It is exactly the same system as used in app settings, in Live tracking and now also here. And to be true, I think it is not too important. Main here is toggle button on right panel that turns default settings on/off.

Stop button should be visible only when "repeated notification" is enabled. Anyway seems there is some problem with these notifications on your device. I'm playing with it now maybe 10 minutes, and no problem so far, weird.

Before auto-backup was enabled, now i stopped it for both version to avoid the issue.
It's strange that today it tried to copy HGT files and why do it now, they were never backup-ed before (fortunately too many MB of data to move).

@menion - important if user want to 1) notify until stopped or 2) change pause or 3) change sound or 4) change vibration. In 3.35.2 Pro these settings are on the Basic & Notification tabs. I like the new beta layout better but I think the settings are too hidden - it took me lots of playing to find them, and then only by accident., and only because I thought something wasn't working correctly.

I will try a more objective test next week when some spare time. Given there was custom sound and single beep sound at different times, there is definitely some problem happening.

It is really interesting with your notifications. Isn't possible, it was a notification from for example "GPS lost fix"?

Anyway ... new version 3.36.0 just published, so further discussion in new topic.

I also started this week on the necessary rewrite of communication with Groundspeak server (geocaching functions). Deadline is till the end of April otherwise Locus Map lost access to GC server, so it's time to start work and test it. And also updates in the system of maps are close to some alpha tests, so next month will be definitely interesting ;).
