The issue with the start of navigation: found and fixed. Unfortunately, there is currently no workaround, except to use Route planner to create navigation route and avoid "Navigate to". The new version will be published most probably on Friday. I just want tomorrow collect some more problems (if any appear).

@tapio
in case, the distance between points is less than 0.5m, app display breaks instead because there is the high risk of incorrect gradient values. And this is your case. You have defined in recording profile distance = 0m? Suggest to set there at least 1 (m) to avoid this issue.

Hello again,

In the new V3.33 Locus crashes more or less immediately when I start using Geocaching4Locus add-on. Sometimes already on the map, sometimes while opening a listing, sometimes after some clicks in the listing.
No crash report, no error message. It just gets killed.

Just gave a quick test with G4L, but everything there seems to work for me.

But, tapping Load Pocket Queries makes it crash.  Report sent.  I don't know if it's relevant, but Groundspeak was sending error 500 codes earlier in the day; maybe that messed up my login state.  "Profile not loaded."  But even now that Groundspeak is properly sending PQs again and after restarting Locus, it still crashes.

It is and was always set to 10m. And I don't understand: the display was always alright. Then, one or two versions ago, Locus showed crazy values. Now you did something about it, but graph looks broken. Why did it work, say, in the beginning of 2018?

Edit: Ah, I have set 10m OR 5s. Maybe, but cannot remember I changed it to OR and then its my fault. Changed it to AND an will see...

Weird, just today morning (GMT+1) I've published new 3.33.1 version

(https://i.postimg.cc/ppDGnjbK/2018-09-28_19_29_30-_Window.png) (https://postimg.cc/ppDGnjbK)

But if I see correctly, it is still not available for download :/. Most probably some issue on the Google server. So just for your information ... the version is out and the issue is not on our side. Thanks.

@tapio
I thought it will be this issue ;).

Nice enhancements to the routeplanner, I like it very much!

But one thing: is it intentional that I can't create a nav point on a hand-drawn part of the route? After tapping on the instruction sign (for example 'turn left'), nothing happens! On other (routed via Brouter) parts of the route this works just fine!

Is it possible to add the exit button as one of the selectable option for the panels?
A fried has a phone without back fisical button and to exit needs always to open the main menu.

ah, good observation. Complicated task :). I'll look on it tomorrow, but can't promise. Will probably have to merge line before and after, created from it a route with only three points and change middle point to desired navigation command. Little weird ... :/

@lor74cas
hmm no back button? One of the most used buttons on Android?? How he control other apps, no problems??
I'm really not sure how useful such a button may be to others ... sounds to me as really useless :/. If he have enabled fullscreen mode (he probably has) then he may also swipe from left to open main menu. Then it's almost no extra work for this one-time task I think. Sorry, I've convinced myself, that such button really does not make sense :).

Yes fullscreen mode covers the virtual back button, ok I'll tell him to use swipe method I hope he will be more confortable with it.

Same here, but you typically swipe the bottom Android buttons to front if you swipe from the buttom up. So, there are options :)

Have to restart twice to see changed language.
Maybe a effect of too short (3 sec) auto restart?

Hi,
I also noticed this some time ago, but because the change of language is quite a big hack, I do not know how more improve this. Anyway usually you change this once, so I do not consider this as a big problem.

Hello
No way to login in strava with google to export a track.

Also tried to previously login in Strava with chrome but does not do the trick.

For me this feature is not so important I can export the gpx and use chrome to upload.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181012/3a11c537243107ce7466c41db9088283.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181012/1ad0cd86e8fe9321561a682282a39951.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181012/0fbd0dc81dccd0fe4340999b6ae39f17.jpg)

The value of elevation gain in Route Planer is much too high. After saving the planned track the new value looks better. Approximatly -20% than in Route Planer.
Minion - may i ask you to fix this because i use Route Planer in the field often to get quick information to decide to go right or left without saving the track.
Thank you.

1. Thanks for the orientation lock option in the presets. Does just what I needed to give reverse portrait when navigating in the car.
2. Something seems to have changed with the icon for the app. My Nova launcher processes the desktop icon with a white surround.

Yesterday morning no updates and no notify by the store, today morning I don't remember if I tried a manual update.

1. In presets, Orientation Lock option is not preserved if I generate a new preset. I have to tap the pencil icon, make the option available, and then the setting is copied from existing state.
2. Selecting "Disable dashboard" when editing preset crashes (and restarts) Locus.

I think that's a bigger (and not new) problem: A new preset only ever contains a fixed set of settings, as far as I can see. So for all settings not in there, you first have to select them in the Edit dialog.
My proposal:
1) Initially activate all possible settings
2) Make copying presets possible - that way you can boil your presets down to the settings you actually want to change. I know that you can manually copy a preset by copying the .lb file in data/presets and renaming it. Never tried it though, not sure if that works (naming could be a problem) - so an in-app solution would be better.

I'm not sure how new this is, but when having a navigation running, I now get a "Guidance" notification, at least on Oreo. Which I assume is due to background running restrictions - so that's fine.
However, when also recording a track, there are now two notifications! I'm pretty sure, that for ensuring background running, one would be enough?!
Unfortunately, they both have the same category ("Ongoing notifications"), so I can't turn off the guidance notification without also hiding the recording notification (which I absolutely need).
So would it make sense to automatically hide the guidance not. when there is a recording running, or at least put them into different categories so the user can decide? (which however is only possible on Oreo, granted)

2) The icon has a blue background. It looks a little odd, the other programs are white. See SCR.

ah perfect, issue with conversion. It is caused by the content you have on SD card. Thanks to log from tramp, found & fixed, so thank you.

@slart76
what means "Guidance" notification? Maybe a screenshot + describe better what you hear. By "Track recording" notification you mean announcements from "Audio coach" right?

@Žajdlík Josef
2) it is new system how app define icons. There is always background color and inner icon. For example your "Musicolet" app has the same ... colored background + white icon over it. Unfortunately Locus Map is full of colors and then best will be to keep white color for now. At least till we prepare completely new icon ;)

@Andres Heard
interesting, for me deleting of track works correctly anyway I've added into code one more "refresh of map" after task is done.

I misinterpreted it. It's not about a transparent background, but about being behind the white icon. PRO version has white RGB 255, 255, 255, BETA has blue RGB: 192, 227, 255. White or gray would probably be more appropriate. But it's just an aesthetic detail and has no effect on functionality.

Yes, understand - but can't you define different notification categories for them? That way, the user can hide the ones that are not needed. That shouldn't be a biggie?!

Understand, I'll look at it. We thought a while about some inner logic where only single notification will be visible with the most important information, but ... what is most important when navigation, track recording and live tracking are running at once? Best to allow enable/disable then separately over app settings, agree.

Yes, thx.
Just one additional comment: The thing about the "Guidance" notification, as you can see in the screenshot, is that it doesn't hold any information. It's obviously purely functional. It didn't try Navigation, perhaps that notification holds more information like the next change of direction; but guidance is kinda useless.
Anyway, it's necessary for Android, but if you put it in a different category, anybody can disable it if annoyed by it :)

"Problem we can't identify" is hard to solve :). Any steps to repeat it?

@slarti76
Since Android 8, it is no longer possible to use navigation as I code it. So this notification is, let's say "hack", how to make it temporarily correctly working till I find time and rewrite it completely.

"Please log in again" might be more helpful.

Hi,

using Locus Pro 3.34.0 with Android Stock ROM 6.0.1 on a Galaxy Note 4 own geocacheiconset does not work anmore.
There is a mix of own geocacheicons (for example Tradis and Multis) and original Locus geocaheicons (for example Mysteries). See video (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1O5fzn7vL4_HrHWOi5sGJnL8udmOYj0Yb).
Mysteries should look similar like the tradi or multi-icon. I. e. blue circle with a with questionmark.

The value of elevation gain in Route Planer is much too high. After saving the planned track the new value looks better. Approximatly -20% than in Route Planer.
Minion - may i ask you to fix this because i use Route Planer in the field often to get quick information to decide to go right or left without saving the track.
Thank you.
Its not fixed in v3.34

I confirm this. Moreover, with guiding on and the compass view Locus 3.34.0 indicates a totally wrong distance to the target (thousands of km away) even though the target (a geocache) is just a few meters from me. (Luckily, it works OK in the little compass on the top line of the map view, which is a salvage for now.) This release did not please geocachers at all ...

1. Navigate using Google gives an "over query limit". Not sure how long this has been the case.
2. Navigate using Brouter gives a ridiculous estimated journey time for car journeys. This is new, though the time used to be up to twice as long as real life.
3. Voice commands in Brouter car navigation give "in nought point seven miles..." etc which sounds very odd to an English ear. Better would be "in one thousand yards" or "in three quarters of a mile". This is long standing.

@Čelda
heh nice distance. Fixed thanks

@john_percy
this will be more complicated.

1. well this is really old implementation and most probably with a change of pricing model, old key to access Google navigation stopped work. Because using results of Google Nav. in Locus Map is agains "terms of use" of Google comp., no sure about the future of this small feature ...

2. times in case of BRouter should be computed based on your own driving. In case, you spend some time in car in city, times may be overestimated. Will have to improve this over winter.

3. so it is generally better, not to speak values lower then 1 mile? What about for example 1600 yards? Better to say yards directly then 0.9 mile?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 3.33/3.34 ( 26. 9. 2018 )
Post by: john_percy on November 05, 2018, 11:49:38
So, I think
1. Remove Google navigation if it doesn't work ;)
2. Thanks for the explanation. Does that mean the algorithm hasn't changed, just my usage or driving? (I guess I noticed the difference when I changed back to Pro version after the beta expired.) I presume it does know the difference between my walking habits and my driving habits? I would welcome an improvement in any case. An estimate of 8 hours for a 1 hour journey seemed a bit extreme.
3. I don't know whether the distances are preselected or if they are randomly produced at intervals during the navigation. My first preference if the distances are preselected would be to select from "three quarters of a mile, half a mile, a quarter of a mile, xxx yards". Otherwise, "xxx yards" below 999 yards and probably (but less certainly) "xxxx yards" between 1000 yards and a mile.

Post by: Menion on November 05, 2018, 12:48:34
1. have to check it in "free" time. It's still available only after editing of config.cfg so I do not worry about malfunction too much :).
2. nono, there is the difference. App analyze your movement based on type of navigation and also based on activity in track recording profile. So walking should not mess computed speed for driving etc. Anyway, more inner logic is definitely needed, I'm aware of it.
3. currently it is : below 1000 years: xxxx yards, and above x.x miles . Oki, I've changed it to keep yeards below one mile, thanks.

Thanks
1. OK. I'd forgotten I'd edited config.sys.
2. So, does it only learn from recorded tracks, not simply following navigation? That seems not so good.
3. 1000 years is an awful long time!!!  ::)

Hello,
every time you update the free version we have an update for beta also, in this case it switch from beta to free, not a problem at the same time I have the pro updated.
But why does we need to update beta to free? Why we can not switch from a beta to the new one skipping the normal free stage?
I think it's the store policy but it's unpleasant for a beta user.

hmm ... Locus Map Free and Beta version are equal applications. Google Play serve to user latest available version. So if I publish new final version, it is always younger then Beta version. Also, these Beta versions are mainly to test and validate changes before release, so why to play with them after new version is out?

@balloni55, @gynta
GC Offlinizer was really changed. It was made maybe two days before release so I left only English translation there.
And new "hidden" Expert settings menu: it will always be only English. As I mentioned a few times somewhere, I would like to one by one, move everything from config.cfg here (and in the end remove config.cfg) > a lot of texts for advanced users > English needed.

Hmm ... all these years (maybe 6) it was working this way and it's perfectly valid method for app testing.

Simply: why to keep Beta version when there is already another new version of the same application. Understand that situation here is more complicated because of two versions. Most of the apps that use these Beta tests have single application.

I may enable Beta testing on Pro version, but is it a good idea? I personally something discovers in the field that Beta version crash and for the rest of the trip I use tested working Pro version.

So ... what is the main problem here?
Fact that app was updated is clear after start with the list of news. Fact that app was updated also means, that there is some new production/beta version and it makes no sense to continue in using of the previous version.

@menion can you please remind me how to enable the Expert settings. After recent un/re-install I lost this "settings". I was reminded by Balloni's screen cap of the possibility of changing track chart colors. A did a system-wide search for "expert" but only found in this most recent post. Strange.

Sure, it was named "experimental settings", but in the recent version we renamed it to "Expert settings". Because of this you most probably found nothing.

Just long click on main menu icon on the map and there is it.

If it is not technically too demanding, I would also encourage the separation of the BETA version from the FREE version. Ideally it would have been if BETA were completely independent and stayed functional a few days after the PRO release. Sometimes it happens that the PRO behaves differently than BETA. And then it's a good idea to try if it's only due to experimentation with BETA settings or because of the final changes in the PRO version.

On my tab, I got Pro and Beta installed. For both, I turned off Automatic Backups (aside: On the "Edit" dialog, it says "Next backup 10 May 2018", but that should be empty, if auto backups is off).
Still, everytime I boot the tab, both versions create a backup (complete with the "Backup in progress" notification).

I know you can't always translate all the notes in all the supported languages, but the title should be translated as the navigation between the release notes page.
I suggest not to expose all the notes but just a link to the web page of the changes.

I do share your problem, but won't like any time consuming solutions based on change contents just to make some non technical people happy. We have to remember how frequently we get new change logs and how many languages we do support. This could block alot of time.

I thought about solutions to get this done without spending additional time like some kind of automatic translation. But this would need alot of time to set it up.
Maybe it would be sufficient to hide all and just make just 1 generic mutlilanguage text block:

Locus Map update got installed.
New Version does contain

- 2 removed features

interesting problem with backup. If you tap on "cancel" in backup manager and then return back, "Next backup ..." is there still visible?
I've anyway added one extra check into service that takes care of backup, so it should solve this issue.

@lor74cas
thanks for add-ons, removed from the list in app.
Missing translation in "výlety-zábava.cz" ... well, "Czech only" service ;)

About translated news. What do you mean by "title"? Anyway every major version (except smaller one like last time), has own blog post ( http://www.locusmap.eu/news/ ) which summarize all major news and that is translated also into German & Czech.

Also what about checking news on our help desk http://help.locusmap.eu/announcements , where is then simply possible to use web Google Translate like: https://translate.google.com/#auto/de/http%3A%2F%2Fhelp.locusmap.eu%2Fannouncement%2Fversion-3-34-1-11-2018

Summary as @Falco wrote ... I would stay with help desk.
Maybe some direct link to help desk from list of news in app? Will think about it ...

Hello,
Using the planner if you have a track displayed it's not possible to hide it.
You need to quit the planner and hide the track. Not a big trouble, the planner can restart from the point you left it.

I like it, before the change it was in the way. It did cover my current position if you use the option allign my position at bottom. But now it could confuse people who don't know about it.

The new application icon on Android 8 is very nice.
@menion please don't forget to update the API Icon if your work on the new Android icon design is done:

A few months ago I had to change the system of notifications. These "toasts" are now attached to screen and not freely floating. In this case, info toast is attached to "Presets" screen, which is anyway immediately hidden, so toast does not have enough time to display itself.
Improved little bit. You won't probably like me, because this add's 2 seconds delay when using presets, but let's try it in practice :).

Icons for other add-ons or API: sure, just wait a while. I counted 13 sets of icons we need x 5 resolutions x 3 icons per resolution (1 for old A7- and 2 for new A8+), so a lot of work. We'll first test it on Free/Pro version, then generate rest of icons.

In which version is this 2 seconds delay included? I would like to test it because I use presets to assign hardware buttons to layout actions for example for my hardware button dashboard I need to use presets because there is no action task for "display dashboard".

This goes so far that I do even use a slow double click to enable and disable dashboard in 1 second to do a quick check on one dashboard value. All this during active screen lock to prevent wrong touch events caused by sweaty screen.

Hello menion
https://coord.info/GC22ZQ8
- this geocache was imported to locus and after click on cache label the listing opened immediately :)
- in the meantime i´ve solved the puzzle  and i´ve corrected the coords with PC on GS
- next i update this cache with locus
- now after click on cache label it takes ~10sec with PRO and ~35sec with BETA ??? till listing is visible.

Other caches with corrected coords open furthermore immediately :)

by playing with this issue i found:
if a cache inside locus with "original coords" is marked computed  and i update it to get the corrected coords from GS, the cache icon stay on the original coords. Additional a WP with corrected coords is created in waypoint tab.

The "Exit" option near the end of the main menu has disappeared from the latest beta. Is that intentional?

Ah correct. It's because I use testing changed main menu (only four buttons at the bottom with main "Locus World" button) and this "exit" button is missing there. Btw. is it really useful at all? Two taps to close app instead of "swipe up" and home button. Hmm ...

For now, @balloni55 is correct, full-screen is needed. It may happen that you will have also this test version of the main menu (it's random in Free version), then sorry, it's not there :).

On my old MotoG i needed full screen to get enough screen space. "Swipe up" was frustratingly imprecise and could easily result in scrolling the map several kilometres and losing my place insteada of opening the soft buttons. So, yes, the Exit button was very useful.
It isn't needed on my new Moto G6 as use the fingerprint detector as a back button instead.

Attempting to do a search using Geonames or GNS on new beta. Start typing into search box, auto complete options offered from past searches. Tap on one of these (eg "pooley bridge"), text appears as "ListItemParams(id=0)". Delete this nonsense character by character,  Locus crashes when last character has been erased. (Sorry, can't upload screenshot in current mobile configuration.)
This search behaves correctly in current Pro version.

Track export to RideWithGPS: Locus locks up at Points/Tracks export summary screen. Close & back buttons are ignored. Locus is unresponsive. I can only kill Locus & restart. This bug could have begun a long time ago as I do not normally export to RideWithGPS, it was really a mistake. Export to GPX file is fine. The first time recently this happened I thought it could have been because of a large track (200km) but today I mistakenly did another RideWithGPS export with smaller 100km and same result.

It's probably a general problem with themes using the style tag. Older versions of Locus always displayed the style menu without problems. The theme itself is not publicly available (it's based on Jusc's Adlerauge theme with several additions borrowed from other themes).
I can send it to you for testing purposes.

@menion - no error message, back button unresponsive (as I said), using stock Google Gmail. Should I send a log? At what point should I create the log? Just after Locus is frozen I guess.

yes, it may be the same problem as reported by @jusc in the different topic. Anyway, few external themes I have in the device does not contain such menu so if you point me on any problematic theme or send me any, I'll gladly fix it, thanks.

@Andrew Heard

when to send logs: complicated question.

In case of app crash: exact steps to simulate > not needed, otherwise > always
In case of app does not response: best are steps to simulate, the log may not be always useful, but without simulation, we do not have anything better
Other cases: depends but usually description is enough. I ask for log in case, I see that it may help.

In this case, it probably won't contain anything useful, but if you have 10 minutes, I'll definitely look on it if you create and send one, thanks.

@menion - another thought of Locus not responding - I have disabled auto-sync for my Google account. This means I manually sync email if/when I rarely check email on my phone. Could this explain the lockup?

Using a Mapsforge Multilingual map of Great Britain from OpenAndroMaps and any theme (eg internal General theme or my Voluntary ML theme) I'm finding that zooming from ZL15 to ZL14 results in portions of the text layer not being drawn (left). The text layer is drawn if I change to a standard LoMap and back to the ML map (right).

you know that app has some more serious problems with labels because of the older part of MapsForge V3 library. And this is most probably just another problem. Sorry, I do not have a quick solution for this.

I am aware of the problem with labels and Mapsforge v3 library. But this is a Mapsforge v4 multilingual map -- doesn't that use v4 library?
The usual problem is labels not extending outside the boundaries of the tiles -- this is almost the reverse: the label is only displayed outside the relevant tile.
In any case, the issue is not simply to do with rendering as the map displays correctly on switching to it from a standard map but incorrectly on changing zoom. The standard maps don't display this effect.

@michaelbechtold
you mean around the rendering of maps?

I believe we all will agree that best from long-term will be adapt to latest MapsForge version. This on one side will be a lot of work mainly for @voldapet who work years on themes for LoMaps, on the second side, it simplifies life to all of you, who suffer from divided themes for Locus Map and other apps.

Currently, latest version 0.10.0 of MapsForge library is already in app so V4 maps (and in next version V5 also) are supported. Auto-loading most probably does not work, MapsForge POI's are another, currently not so important, story.

Anyway, support for external V4 maps is not problem for LoMaps (they may still use old renderer).

Issue reported by John is probably little more complicated.
MapsForge is based on the same system as Google Maps or other map frameworks. They have own "map view" component which has logic how to draw map tiles. Anyway here is a problem. Locus Map has also own component. For using maps from MapsForge V4+, I use own hack how to prepare map tiles, which most probably cause a new issue with labels. But seems, there is one active use who may save us for now: https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/issues/1085 . So let's wait on 0.11 version of MapsForge, I'll then use this method and we will see ;).

Yes, Menion, that has been my topic since long time :-)
I had a look at the mapsforge link, and I am not sure it really matches the Locus architecture - you will know best.
But when it comes to Labels, for sure they are best kept in the extra LabelLayer, like Cruiser does. Consistent, predictable and controllable (by theme) outcomes ...
Good luck and kind regards
Michael

ah thanks for the reminder. Very nice issue (a nice example of curved developer mind  ;D ) ... seems that description of cache is more then 221000 characters long text. Locus Map analyzes this text and looks for images that need "offlinize" (use of already loaded images). And it currently took really loooong.

I think I've improved this enough to make opening cache fast again. Thanks, this observation helps a lot not with this cache, but almost with every cache that has a longer listing, nice!
