Title: Green dashed lines around tiles
Post by: Deedee on April 22, 2018, 12:36:02
Hi,
A long time ago I loved walking and maps, and still love maps, and I wanted a map with contour lines.
I found one and downloaded it, I think from OpenStreetMap, to find it had green dashed lines around each tile that made up the map.
Ive tried for some time to figure out why the lines show or to try and remove them from the map but I can't figure it out. For a while i thought it might be an issue with the phone but even on locus Pro they still show.
I'm guessing now that it may be the map its self, the way the map was created.

Can anyone please tell me why these lines appear or how to remove them or
how I can have a downloaded map on my phone with contour lines without the green grid lines that is an open source map?

I thought there may be a tutorial on this but have not been able to find one.

Many Many thanks in advance,
Deedee.

If you downloaded a raster map, those lines are "burnt in".
If your download was a vector map, then have a look at the theme, which controls the rendering on your phone (you can switch on/off all you want, re-color, etc. etc. - but you are dealing with a huge XML file and need to gain some understanding to like your results).

Hello Deedee
if you are a new locus user you can load 3 maps for free from Locus Store :) if not, these maps are not expensive!
http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:free_maps_for_new_users

enter store  > search there for Maps/Lomaps/Europa/United Kingdom
while download you are ask to download "Hight data" as well.
Now you own a map without a grid and additional shading info, if set:

Settings/Maps/Advanced features/Map shading > Enabeled

The appearence of the map depend  on used "Map theme"
so try some different themes to see e.g. more or less contour lines
some themes are also in Locus Store/Graphics e.g. "HiLo theme" or "Voluntary UK theme"

The dashed green lines indicate a national park or nature reserve and are an artefact from the particular theme you are using on a vector map. In your case, nature reserves and national parks are marked by a dashed green line around the boundary of the nature reserve/national park. Unfortunately this also produces a dashed green line around the map tiles.
If these lines bother you, I think you can turn off national parks/nature reserves in the Elevate Theme (available on the OpenAndroidMaps site), or you can use the Voluntary theme (free from Locus Store) which has been optimised to avoid this artefact.
