Hello menion, a minor bug report:
When trying to change icon for custom quick bookmark preset to external archive, I get error toast File not found. Only for quick bookmarks.

I will try this one after our present holiday but yesterday after a serious hike with guiding and some geocaching, I dumped 3.23.2 if favour of 3.21.1  Every new version of Locus seems to need more memory and processing power. Our older Moto G's (mine the original, hers the Moto G 2014 dual sim, the last one with a compass) kept freezing for several seconds, the heading line went crazy in spite of compass calibrations. On a given moment the heading line was spinning around like a crazy clock. Several reboots/restarts of Locus on both phone's and (wat felt like) probably a higher battery consumption.
Setting both to "only hardware compass" helped a bit but it seems the older (manual setting) for the orientation filter was far easier on the processing power than the new "automatic" (not accessible by user) setting.
Not much use my reaction for the moment because we have a weeks hiking to go and after that I will try to give better information. :)

Thanks @Bucky Kid , this seems to be a general issue with custom icons, solved

@Henk : hmm weird is slower and slower ... any useful tips from this (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:locus_performance)?
If this will continue, I think I may prepare a special version that may tell us more from your using and why Locus Map is sloooow. Let me know ...

Hi Menion,

From "what's new" I learnt that there is Strava export. So I wanted to try it, but there is a problem.
When at the single track export page I select "export type" -> "strava" I am requested to log in to strava, but pressing the "LOGIN" button shows for a very short period (0.3s or so) a pop up saying "Working ..." and nothing else happens. I am not logged in.

I do have Strava installed if it matters.

And a separate question: is it possible to add Sports Tracker export?

Hello,
hmm interesting. Is on your device any active working "web browser" application? Locus Map since this new version require external web browser to correctly login to these services.

About "Sports tracker": http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/sports-tracker , not much interest, so feel free to vote for this idea, but I do not see big chance, sorry.

Hello,
is there time to break? I don't think so :).

New Beta version 3.24.1.1 is just uploading on Google Play and I'll need some help from You here.

1) thanks for push from c.s.g., I've rediscovered some possible problems with logging of caches directly on geocaching.com from Locus (not over field notes). So if anyone use it, please try it with latest Beta. "Log date only" checkbox should be fixed now and should works as expected. Geocaching web site now require directly UTC times over API. Locus was already doing this in case, "Log date only" was disabled!

2)
improvements: my thoughts:
- editing of tracks should be improved
- current system with panel on main map screen is limited by space
- current system with panel on main map screen is not much intuitive because of huge number of already visible buttons, panels etc. on the screen
- etc etc

ideal solution I found?
- separate screen for editing a tracks that may be from begin optimized just on track editing (not creating for now).

So as a first step I wants to create a copy of current system ( in terms of "functionality" ) as a separate screen. Feel free to try it in new Beta and let me know.

why I'm doing it?
- because I do not like current system much
- because I wants to implement this function: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/mark-a-section-of-a-track-and-get-statistics-for-it and it's really complicated to extend current solution
- because I want's to somehow modify bottom map panel, but it's not simply possible because of all these panels that appear above it ( track recording, add new route, edit route )

3) did you noticed improved system for creating custom icons packs? Hope I'll see some nice packs soon :).

The new track editing mode has good potential. First feature I note lacking compared to previous version - long tap on back or forward point would move to first or last point.

Route editing: unfortunately, when you apply changes, you almost always hurt Locusu. The database file is destroyed and Locus can not see any routes after restart. You need to restore the file from the backup. This is not a new mistake, but it was also in older versions. That's why I never needed locomotive routes in Locus. Android 4.3.

Android 4.3.

@Žajdlík Josef: this really happen to you?? Why I do not know it? :). May you please backup your data, try it once more with latest Beta version and if issue happen, create for me a log by known method right after crash? Thank you. Btw if you will need my answers in Czech, let me know, otherwise I'll keep it in English if this is not a problem as I'm little lazy to do dual-language like you :).

@ Menion  How to create a protocol I do not know but I created a backup before and after the fall. I send. In the tracks, the folder is a try and there is one file in it. I've been editing with him. Edit / Swipe point with finger / save changes and fall of application. Maps and routes are stored on an SD card, Xperia M, adroid 4.3 I do not care about English, I prefer to put Czech text on my own, because sometimes I do not know it and the compiler does not manage it.

Files for download: ...

CZ: Jak vytvořit protokol nevím, ale vytvořil jsem zálohu před pádem a po něm. Posílám. V trasách je složka pokusy a v ní jeden soubor. U něj jsem prováděl editaci. Edit/posun bodu prstem/uložit změny a pád aplikace. Mapy i trasy mám uloženy na SD kartě, Xperia M, adroid 4.3 Angličtina mi nevadí, osobně raději přikládám i český text protože občas dělám překlepy a překladač to pak nezvládne.

Thanks. Issue is in your database, not in Locus Map itself ( well common question is why database is corrupted .. because of Locus Map? ... ).

Anyway by this method (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:advanced:map_tools:corrupted_sqlite), I was able to fix it. I'll send you download link over PM. Try it, but I believe it will work as expected.

@menion I am slow to report this, and I cannot provide any useful log, as I am cycle touring for 9 weeks. But for the last few releases I have noticed Locus pro crash a few times, no good reason, not using any new feature, just randomly. Previously #rock solid#. But I don't read of anyone else reporting such an issue. Second, again no good data, but sometimes the map is not repainted, only POI and track. Not even change of zoom level or theme or Locus restart helps, and I have had to restart whole phone.

Good day Andrew, 9 weeks trip, very nice, enjoy it!!

Problems: hmm sorry to hear this. If you will want any older version, just tell me. Anyway crash: immediately after crash take a log and send me it once you will be on internet. I have reported every day many crashes ... for example after last 30 days I see in crash console: 9308 crashes ... eh. All these are anyway just some automatic crash reports by Android system without any idea how and why happen. But I'm solving only these, that are repeated more often or better directly reported by users, so I may simulate them.

Problem with repaint ... more complicated, hmm. It should be useful if you find any key that starts this problem. I never saw this thought ...

First experience with editing the route.
1) When you move to editing, the map does not move beyond the edit area.
2) It takes a long time to save an edited route. For example, deleting 20 points, saving even 10 minutes. Of course, I understand it's given even by the age of the phone.
3) It would be good to offer "rough" editing at street level.

CZ:

*** Version 3.24.1.3 ***
Probably biggest changes compare to previous version ( not just Beta ):
- completely new "Route planner" screen that should replace current "Add new route & measure"
- improved new "route edit screen" also based on your feedback here, thanks
- reverted login system for Strava, RunKeeper and Munzee to previous version

@Andrew Heard: really no need to sorry, enjoy your trip!!

@Žajdlík Josef: thanks!
2) try it with new empty track database. You will see it's fast! Your database is quite huge and Locus really needs some optimization ...
3) may you explain it little bit?

Post by: Žajdlík Josef on June 08, 2017, 07:27:32
@ Menion
I will try to explain point 3 using scr from MyGPSFiles.
M1 - The scale with a more detailed view shows multiple editing points
M1-2 - offset point
M2 - this scale has dropped, so it is easier to edit the larger section
M2-2 - offset point
In the context menu, the "Continue to Cycle / Walk / Car" menu will also automatically re-calculate the route to the previously edited point. This is very practical.
You can easily check out at http://www.mygpsfiles.com/app/
/Still to point 2 - database size. Would it not be better to create a temporary database file in the phone memory during the editing process, where the calculation would take place quickly, and write the changes to the database when it was finally saved? Editing would speed up.

Nebylo by lepší vytvořit v průběhu editace dočasný databázový soubor v paměti telefonu, kde by výpočet probíhal rychle, a až při konečném uložení trasy zapsat změny do databáze? Editace by se tím zrychlila.

Thanks for detailed explanation. Understand. It looks for me more like a route planner, not directly an editor of already recorded track. Anyway thanks for a time, maybe it may be an inspiration for Route planner.

And saving track ... well yes, if you do more modifications in row, then your idea should be really useful. I was even thinking about removing track from database and saving new modified version, which should be also a lot more faster. Anyway during next week, I'll check if isn't possible to speed up a process as is implemented now.

My GPS Files není plánovač je to jen editor jinde vytvořených tras. Novou trasu myslím ani vytvořit neumí. Doporučuji vyzkoušet, velmi hezké je i zobrazení trasy na Earth3D.

First experience with the new "route planning" screen.
  Visually very nice, good work. What I miss is the possibility of searching. On the old screen, you could go to the menu / search and do not have to search the map manually. This is not a new version.
  The second thing is that there is no notice of the route being lost. Simply click on the left arrow and the scheduled path disappears.
  Selecting "Navigation / Guidance" from the context menu when creating a route will cause the application to fall.

V nové verzi to nejde.
Druhá věc je, že chybí upozornění neuložení trasy. Stačí kliknout na šipku vlevo a naplánovaná cesta zmizí.
Volba "navigace/navádění" z kontextového menu při vytváření trasy způsobí pád aplikace.

The 5km or so "laps" mechanics today is simply useless ...

The GPS position (blue circle) no longer matches the center of the cursor image. No idea when this happened really, but I've been using cursor_zorro for years without problems.

Found the reason. I fake the DPI for Locus App to 620 (instead of default 540 on a Note 4). This works nicely to scale your UI (buttons and everything) to something more reasonable on a moving bicycle, but seems to mess up the cursor calculations somewhat. Weird, because all other parts in Locus scale absolutely fine.

I can confirm this, changing the DPI led to problems with the cursor for ages (ever?). I think I once talked to Menion about it, but I totally understands that this is such an esoteric problem, that he doesn't do anything about it. Have stopped changing the DPI for Locus due to that.

That being said, it's an actual problem that buttons that have reasonable size for "normal" usage are far too small when biking.
@Menion: Did you ever think about this?

Also some feedback on the new route planning screen:

First impression very positive.
It is nice to have more screen space for the map display.
Also, the backround route calculation is very nice, because it at least allows searching the map for the next waypoint while the (possibly lengthy) route calculation of the previous segment goes on...I like this very much!

Some possible improvements:

- make it possible to change map theme / activate additional POIs/Tracks from database, search for POIs while in route editing mode. Sometimes I change/add these things while planning a route, mainly because I forgot to do it before.

- allow map overlays to display also on route planning screen. Any activated map overlay seems to be disabled in the current implementation of the route planning screen!

yes, I agree, its an interesting visual improvement, as said there is currently a need to be able to search and access then add existing points into the route. However the bigger picture/ question for me remains the inability to efficiently edit this new route once it id saved. Sure, you can edit point by point, but useless to micromanage such a route if it is 10's km long. There is still no effective rubber banding. And why there should be a distiction in UI between route creation and route editing?

Ok, guys, I will eat my hat and 3.24.xx is good. After some serious logging and emailing with Menion I found out that the track style on the map in combination with a quite big track, creates the slugginess I see at higher zoom levels.
We prefer a track style with arrows and that one asks for a lot of processing power at higher zoom levels, above 20 or so. This came up since we nowadays combine hiking with geoacaching. Coming close to the cache, we use to zoom in a lot, up to max 22 level. Then the phone freezes. Switching to a straight line track style does not freeze it.

Hi guys, thanks for a valuable feedback!

Route planner & editor
- access to search system, points and tracks is quite a challenge to me, but I'm aware that it's needed to solve it somehow.
- I was also thinking about merging both systems into single screen with all these options, but I still think that both are quite different and I can't imagine single screen with so much options at once.
- map overlays ... hmm, I'll look at it

Andrew, your missing rubber-band planning is also in my head .. every track should have an option "Load to route planner", which should really load whole track to planner with all these via-points etc. I think it should work.

@Žajdlík Josef: issues with saving solved, thanks.

@joeloc , @slarti76 : what should I do to simulate this issue ( how to simply change DPI ), any app from Google Play?

@Henk van der Spek : thanks, glad we found a reason of your slowdown.

Afaik, it's only possible to do this with root and XPosed framework - very Android-nerdy stuff. ;) For me, it's not important, and I don't think it's worth spending time on. There's much more important things...

With the new route planner, when I then Edit on map, the previous and next point buttons are both disabled. Would it be more useful that the first point is selected so the Next point button is enabled? Also regards rubber banding, at present when I add a via point during route planning, it doesn't have any icon displayed in subsequent map editing. If i move a via point, all other non start/ stop/ via points on each side of this via point should be deleted and those one or two track segments be recomputed.

@slarti76 : hmm seems that root on my S7 no longer works, damn. Maybe later ... I'm just quite curios why this does not work, because all in code looks correctly on first look.

@Andrew Heard : if you start "edit on map" from list of tracks, then why start point is better then some in the middle or in the end? So I see nothing logical on pre-selecting just the first point. Try to start this "edit" directly from the map to see difference.

About via-points - if you add new point during planning, it is not considered as "via point", just a "helping track point". If you wants to create a permanent via-point, try to tap on green dot once again. This creates real via-point that will be kept in track, visible in list of points and also used during navigation for notification or re-calculation.

Hello menion
since i´ve tested the new "route planner" the "route&measure" inside PRO calcuate the route :) but the route isn´t visible on map. ???

With old "route&measure" inside Beta the route is displayed on map not until i zoom or pan the map :-[

If i use new  "route planner" all works fine

I am editing track from the map, not a list. I am pointing out the left/ right buttons start differently to existing pro behaviour. Existing behaviour is for tapped point to be selected, and therefore, generally, both buttons are enabled. Beta behaviour is for tapped point to be ignored.

As discussed before there needs to be better distinction between a green icon helping point and its converted blue? Via point. Currently almost impossible to tell the difference - shape, better colour, size?

If I edit this new track on the map I can long-tap to edit/ move the point (not always?), but from waypoint list there is an error message that point can't be edited?

How about long-tap on point to display same menu as tapping Tool button? Would be faster in lots of situations.

Maybe instead of further menu level Edit/insert > select point yet again, the Tool menu has separate items for Move/ Insert/ Delete?

Seems named via point is lost if edited and moved?

Moving, deleting points, a simple operation, just takes far too many taps. Surely long-tap point > menu > Delete? And if undo facility provided then no need for confirming each and every operation.

Each recompute is taking a very long time too. Just with simple test track.

Just a few long-winded thoughts to speed up editing and make more intuitive? Could there be a workflow "conflict" between users with short tracks wanting very precise control over placement of all points, and users with long tracks that rely mostly on compute source, and just want to steer in right direction is iniial route needs broad adjustment?

Ok, guys, I will eat my hat and 3.24.xx is good. After some serious logging and emailing with Menion I found out that the track style on the map in combination with a quite big track, creates the slugginess I see at higher zoom levels.
Erm... I think I reported this bug more than two years ago... and menion already acknowledged the problem and did some profiling and blamed rendering code in Android. But basically, track styles were completely unusable since the beginning because they slow down Locus to a crawl (1 fps and less) at higher zoom levels. Since I quite often use high zoom levels to scout for campsites on sat maps, I had to stop using styles completely. Shame really, but cannot be helped until rendering is fixed, either in Android or in Locus.

A dead simple ten-second-workaround (also suggested back then) would still be:
if (zoom > X) style=0;

But obviously that would make more people complain about what happened to styles at high zooms. Performance isn't really such a big topic for most.. so what if rendering takes a second... or deleting track point takes five :-).

@joeloc , @slarti76 : what should I do to simulate this issue ( how to simply change DPI ), any app from Google Play?
Afaik, it's only possible to do this with root and XPosed framework - very Android-nerdy stuff. ;) For me, it's not important, and I don't think it's worth spending time on. There's much more important things...
Theres more important things indeed. I just thought maybe the bug is obvious... like using a different DPI value for cursor calculations/scaling and the rest of the UI. Testing will unfortunately require a rooted Android, xposed framework and the "app settings" module. Very nerdy indeed.

Anyway... Locus UI is just a tad small for moving bike-usage... but very well suited for couch-usage... or for while-being-stopped-usage. And I understand that the latter has preference and nobody really cares about moving bikes. It would be nice though if Locus had a simple "scale" setting that scaled everything at once... buttons... fonts... cursors... maps... just everything. Similar to what you accomplish by changing its DPI value with ugly hacks :).

Yep, I think I have found some bottleneck, so it should be maybe 10x faster now ;).

Same with drawing of styled tracks in high zoom levels.

Well, everything is possible when there is will and .. correct push from you here :). Enjoy it. I'll publish it at start of next week as new bug-fix version on Google Play, so if there will be any problems, please report it here. New "Route planner" and "Track editor" won't be yet published, there is still a long way ...

Hello,
hmm damn. Yes there was a change. Google since Android 7 disabled inexact broadcast intents, so now every intent has to be directly send to certain application.

How is your broadcast receiver registered? It's directly in manifest of your app or you use ActionTools.enablePeriodicUpdatesReceiver method over Locus API?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 3.24.+ ( 31. 5. 2017 )
Post by: zigzag on June 23, 2017, 01:03:10
Hello,

I use manifest to start the app with Locus, and it works, because the app start.

        <receiver
            android:name=".PeriodicUpdateReceiver"
            android:enabled="true"
            android:exported="true">
            <intent-filter>
                <action android:name="locus.api.android.ACTION_PERIODIC_UPDATE" />
            </intent-filter>
        </receiver>

I use a new receiver in running app, while it running. It not receive data.

        receiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {

            @Override
            public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
                Log.d("Most jött", "adat a locustól");
                try {
                    // Értelmes adat érkezett-e be?
                    if (intent == null || intent.getAction() == null) {
                        return;
                    }

                    if (!isLocusRunning(context)) {
                        return;
                    }

                    // Beolvassa a kapott adatokat
                    PeriodicUpdatesHandler.getInstance().onReceive(appContext, intent, updateHandler);
                } catch (Exception e) {
                    return;
                }
            }
        };

        IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter(
                LocusConst.ACTION_PERIODIC_UPDATE);
        registerReceiver(receiver, filter);

    private PeriodicUpdatesHandler.OnUpdate updateHandler = new PeriodicUpdatesHandler.OnUpdate() {
        /*
         * Locustól kapott adatok beolvasásának a függvénye
         */

        @Override
        public void onUpdate(LocusUtils.LocusVersion locusVersion, UpdateContainer update) {
            lastUpdate = update;
            updatee(false);
            Log.d("Most jött", "adat a locustól");
        }

        @Override
        public void onIncorrectData() {
        }
    };

Hello,
ah here probably comes a problem.
It is not possible to correctly register receiver for updates without letting know Locus Map that something like happen.

For cases, you wants to register receiver dynamically, it is necessary to ActionTools.refreshPeriodicUpdateListeners method . It is private now, so I'll make it public to next API version.

Second method I recommend is to use registered, but disabled, receiver in manifest

        <receiver
            android:name=".PeriodicUpdatesReceiver"
            android:enabled="false">

            <intent-filter>
                <action
                    android:name="locus.api.android.ACTION_PERIODIC_UPDATE" />
            </intent-filter>
        </receiver>

And enable/disable it with ActionTools.enablePeriodicUpdatesReceiver or similar ActionTools.disablePeriodicUpdatesReceiver.

I'll also try to add some "automatic refresh" into Locus Map to next version. Let me anyway know if this helped.

EDIT: back, I knew that "private" for refresh has some reason.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3862207/querybroadcastreceivers-does-not-find-receivers-registered-with-registerreceiver

So only possible method how to make this all work, is to have receiver registered in manifest!! And enable/disable it on runtime as I mentioned in second method. I'm sure if this will be fixed in your app, it will work correctly. I have to fix this stupid issue in manual (https://github.com/asamm/locus-api/wiki/Periodic-updates) as well , sorry my bad.

Thanks, glad it works. And sorry for a complications. This all was changed because of this "stupid" change in Android 8.0 : https://developer.android.com/preview/features/background-broadcasts.html .
So only solution is not to send general public intent with Periodic updates, but every send intent send directly to application that wants it. And your receiver registered manually at runtime was unfortunately undetectable by Locus Map as I mentioned in the end of my previous post. Thanks for understanding.

Ok, I had a good field test today with (not beta) version 3.24.2 and I can confirm a significant performance improvement. With track style like arrows, zoomlevel 21 and switching to guidance for a geocache I had no more problems of freezing screen etc.
Oh and zoomlevel 22 killed the arrows track style and switched it automatically to a straight line, which is fine for me. Zooming out reverses that; great extra. Thank you Menion and team.

I'm being slack. I should add a new help topic as this is not a beta bug, but am on the road, and this is quicker, and a simple bug. In the offline address search, if you paste in an address then edit the string such as backspace, mid string, NOT at the end, the cursor position is lost, and returns to the end of string after each tap. Very easy to reproduce and annoying.

what exactly is "not properly"? Do you see after change of theme black areas or some "loading..." empty map and simple zoom in/out fix it? if yes, then Petr discovered this problem a day or two before and should be fixed in next version. If you work on a theme it´s necessary to reload it very often. But after a few times, it seems that Locus load the "cached" theme settings before. So I have to close Locus, than I have to do anything else with the phone to "clear memory" and to restart Locus.
I see this since one year(?) and not only since the last two releases,

Right now I've got new beta (3.24.3.3) and found small bug on new route editor: I have five points 1-2-3-4-5, when I've deleted point 2, the current point jumps to point 4, rather than to 3. New route editor far more comfortable, than previous - it needs less clicks and has more cute interface.
I have feature request for route editing - support Undo, please

@menion can you provide little more info than release notes "improvement in track editor and route planner" please? Awesome new feature multiple function panels.

The old route planner buttons are now shown briefly when route planner mode is entered and exited.

Bug- if I edit via point name then save or cancel, the magnifying glass icon is left on screen and if I now tap anywhere else I loose my route segment because Locus incorrectly things I am moving the via point. Was bug in previous version too. Now via point name is saved, but I still have issue seeing difference between via and non via point as already discussed.

When you tap a point, at present the via name can be immediately renamed. I suggest it would be far more flexible to display a context menu: toggle via, delete point, move point, add point (from users points?), etc. Without an undo, at present its too easy to make a major mistake.

Your observed behaviour is exactly as it is intended. There is no "active preset"!!! This also means, that the changed settings of the preset are not applied until you "run" or "tap" the preset.

Another try for explanation: try to think of a preset as a list of instructions (like a batch file or a computer program) for settings which can be "processed" by tapping on the preset. If you change something in this list, it is not automatically applied but only when you process this list (in Locus: by tapping the preset). Similar to when you change some lines in a batch file and save it, it is not executed automatically.

@Andrew Heard: news are mainly in graphics and little bit in background performance. I was also working on new "instroduction" 3page screen (visible in track editor).

Old route planner is still there and will be working till we decide that new system is good enough. Because of this, old panels are displayed when editing function starts, anyway it is not a problem.

New Beta version with two nice features :).

- Online GraphHopper Directions: OMG, they are so fast and took really really low bandwidth, nice.
- Undo/redo for track editor and mainly route planner! Seems to work nice

Have a nice Sunday!

The function panel buttons are still being lost in latest 3.24.3.4 but I can now add an external app and no longer crash. I can edit a preset, "Set current content", in my case 10 buttons in right panel. I can apply the preset, and works. I can confirm the number of preset function panel buttons, still OK, 10. BUT then after I apply a different preset having 0 or 1 RHS buttons then apply original preset all the 10 RHS buttons are lost - count in preset is 0.

Undo/ redo - wow. In route planner if full undo were provided then is Minus (point) button needed anymore? Full undo is more intuitive and consistent. If I drag a via point it is not possible to undo move at present. With BRouter I also noticed a few times the compute never finished, circle animation never finished. As per my previous comment, more ways to move a via point (GPS, select on map, screen center, points etc) rather than error prone and limited drag with magnifying glass would be great improvement.

Now Track editor: when I use Edit on map (beta), my current zoom is lost, the whole track is displayed, which I don't like much. Use case: I have already zoomed into place to edit, tap track, edit on map, now the position and zoom is lost, and as previously reported, the tapped point of the track is also lost (compared to Pro).

@Andrew Heard:
- I still have problems to simulate your issue with "function panels in presets". May you please record for me a video or describe more precisely your steps, so I may simulate this issue on my phone? Thanks

- unfinished compute with BRouter: again, needs to simulate so if this always happen for "from" > "to" pair of coordinates, write them here for me, thanks

- more ways to move "via point" > long click for now

- track editor : you tap on the track directly on a map and press from ">" menu "Edit on map (beta) and you loose zoom etc? Should not, weird.

@michaelbechtold: quick test and seems that online/offline address search works fine. Please specify problem more in detail, thanks

Editing the route in the new editor works well. I just want to warn Menion about the inconsistency of control. For example, a modified path is saved and the editor closes with the arrow at the top left. The same arrow but in the beta conversion panel works as a cancellation. The panel must be confirmed with the "Next" button. In the screen settings, the changes are saved back to the right. The export of the route has the "export" and "cancel" buttons, but they are hidden under the keyboard, the arrow above works just like the "cancel" button. Perhaps it would sometimes like to find time and control a little to unify. Experienced users do not mind it, but for beginners it can be confusing.

Možná by to chtělo si někdy najít čas a ovládání trochu sjednotit. Zkušeným uživatelům to asi nevadí, ale pro začátečníky to může být matoucí.

Thanks Josef, I'll look at it ...

generally I'm trying to keep control united with following conditions:
a) if window save changes automatically without need to validate anything, then close by hardware "back button" or "cross button" in top right toolbar do it's work
b) if window needs to validate anything ( like confirm of input text ), then "cancel / confirm" buttons are needed. "Hardware back" or "Cross button" just close window without saving. Rarely is used some "OK/set" button in top toolbar for final confirmation
c) if window contains in top left corner "back arrow" it should always work same as "hardware back" button

Absolutely agree that a) and b) options may be sometimes confusing. I anyway still have no clear idea how to convert b) to version a) ( without confirm buttons ).

If you make any changes, I would recommend a little adjustment to the Export Route panel. It would be enough if the initial focus was not on the file name, so the keyboard would not always be activated. I think most people do not change the name anyway, and the "export" button is hidden beneath the keyboard. Thanks.

Beta: 3.24.3.4

GraphHopper online routing is not working.

I've tested it a bit more.
The problem comes only if the check box is not set in "Compute instructions", when the check box is set all is ok.
(https://s1.postimg.org/8fqu5je63/Screenshot_20170711-092039.png) (https://postimg.org/image/8fqu5je63/)

I still notice that the set of the check box is not properly stored.

I can confirm that GraphHopper route planning with the compute instructions check box unselected gives "unknown problem". The state of the check box is preserved for me, however.
The navigation UI (as opposed to route planning) does not have the check box.

@menion some detailed preset/function panel testing
backup 3.24 pro, includes 15 right side panel buttons, 8 presets
restore settings and presets into 3.24.3.4
all RHS buttons and presets are present
edit 1st preset, add "set function panels"
observe correct 5|15 buttons displayed in preset
select preset, ok
edit other presets, observe all 7 already have new  "set function panels" added, and mixture of 5|0 and 5|1 buttons displayed
I now again edit 1st preset and original 5|15 button count has changed to 5|0
what ever I do, the counts do not stick, very easy to see and reproduce wrong behaviour I hope for you too?

@Andrew Heard:

- track editor : you tap on the track directly on a map and press from ">" menu "Edit on map (beta) and you loose zoom etc? Should not, weird
correct 100% easy to reproduce
zoom in to small part of track
tap track
from track info > edit on map beta
observe whole track displayed and "no point selected" is displayed near top of screen

New route planner using BRouter: add point, add 2nd point, long tap either point, edit, cancel, current calculated track is *sometimes* no longer displayed, only straight line. Other times the calculated track is displayed. And even when point is moved there is no undo button.
No comments from other beta testers?

Listening Nightwish helped me to stay awake with still working mind so new Beta 3.24.3.6 version just published on Google Play :).

@Andrew Heard: thanks for a feedback!! I'm anyway still unable to simulate any problem with presets & functions panel. Maybe if you backup for me Locus/data/presets directory and write me few exact steps I may follow to simulate this issue ...

Problem with track editor & selected point ... ah, got it. I suggested to tap on "Edit" button directly in popup, not in track detail screen. Anyway should be solved.

And issue with BRouter ... well I did a lot changes in whole system of undo/redo etc. so hope it work better now ...

I'll be probably +- all three days out now, so enjoy weekend and looking forward to read some nice discovered bugs ;).

@menion, new beta is somewhat buggy  :) I can't create new point because Locus is crashing. Locus pro working correctly, so problem is not in database. In route planner moving from point to point is not always positioned on point exactly (it was the same in previous betas). In new version moving around start/end point sometimes disabling navigation arrows, look at video https://youtu.be/kIfBVDi4gf4

Ah thanks guys, issue found and fixed. As a workaround for now, create a point by long click on the map > point detail > "+" button at bottom left corner. It is needed to firstly open top map preview before editing point.

@alezy: really interesting issue with moving between points. I'm checking it and see no space for this issue. I may only add some debug messages to next version that may tell us more. It looks like flow movement is canceled before it reach final point, but there should be no reason for this.
Btw. do you have enabled GPS in Locus? Maybe running GPS with auto-zoom may do this ...

minor problem using PRO and Beta

- in all presets of BETA i have "set funktion panels" and "Maps>Map Control Set functions panels" each is visible after click on "edit"

- open "edit" of one preset inside locus PRO and close it without any modification and close PRO
- run BETA, open "edit" of this preset, now  "set funktion panels"  isn´t displayed, reason "Set funktion panels" is unchecked.
- the count of added functions is not modified :)

Btw. I'm always pleased to see after restoring of anyone backup, how he was able to customize Locus Map to his needs, nice :).

@alezy: in next Beta version, Locus Map will print some information into system log, so if you try this Beta, just create a log by this method (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log) right after problem occurs few times, thanks!

@balloni55 : well presets overwrite it's config files in Locus/data/presets directory quite often and also validate if data inside are valid and remove these that aren't. So your Pro version after open/close preset edit screen, just save current config and also remove all around "functions panels", because these are not valid settings in latest Pro version.

I'd strongly advise against removing customization options just because they're also doubled in the presets feature. As Menion says, many users, especially beginners, won't use presets, so they'll be put off if they don't find an intuitive way to change the buttons or other settings.
Granted, as is obvious even among us power users, the presets feature is easily mistaken for a "profile" feature and therefore misunderstood. However, it is what it is now and should stay like this - once you understand it, it can be extremely useful. But those who don't use it shouldn't "lose" anything!

3.24.3.8: can no longer tap on icon in list of points, and have map positioned to point.
@menion recall my issue with preset function panels never retaining correct settings; I have gone to extreme of deleting all my presets (after backup) then defining new presets and independent function panel button combinations, and so far they are working. Of course tedious because pro and beta share same presets.
With route planner: if I tap single point new menu is much better, BUT if I zoom out a little and tap close to 2 points I get menu to select one of the points OR track, but after selecting point no other action, and why should the track be in list?

I am still experiencing issues with presets. Maybe you can reproduce this bug:
backup pro
run beta
delete all presets
add some new presets, different names
exit beta
run pro
do full restore including presets
now observe the pro AND beta presets are displayed
surely a full restore should overwrite the beta presets?

Is click on track in "Route planner" useful at all? Maybe it isn't and should be completely disabled ... let's try it.
And restoring presets from backup ... you are correct. I'll delete content of "presets" directory in case of restoring presets from backup file, thanks!

@alezy: hmm perfect news, glad to read it.
About "removing" tools ... there should be visible at top two buttons ... cancel (cross) / ok. You do not see it?

@menion, yes, I see them. I think there are must be option in three dot menu to close  "modify track" mode without saving data, sometime I want just to play with track shape, no to save it.
Another two issues with "Modify track" mode:
1. I have five point track, I select the third point, when I select "remove all before" Locus says that it will remove points 1-2, thats correct, but it highlights only one track segment between points 1 and 2 (that's NOT correct), and after I hit OK it removes point 1 and 2 and two track segments (that's correct). The same with "remove all after".
2. I have track with two overlapped points (almost exactly, so zoom wouldn't help), and there is not possible to delete these points, or to move them. See screen

Why this? Please explain me some use-case, because I can't imagine why should I cut part of track without need to save it. It will be big technical complication, so I need really serious reason for this :). Thanks.

Highlight of track .. thanks, I'll fix it,

Overlapped points, this is more interesting. I've disabled clicking on multiple points a few weeks ago, because it was quite dangerous and caused only unwanted moving of unwanted points. Now with undo/redo feature, this may not be so big problem anymore. I'll try to improve it somehow, thanks!

When cutting part of track I didn't see the final track shape, so for me it is better to have ability to discard all editing of track. Or in "modify track" mode I can delete point with top "Point tools menu" with additional question "delete Yes/No" that places over track but can't restore point deleted by accident.
After splitting tracks they have modification date set to 1970 year (but named with the current date).
After splitting M shaped track by center point, I've merged two tracks back with "merge with gaps enabled" and third segment is lost (with interesting effect, try it) :(, without gaps option or with little change points position all becomes ok

Yes I was thinking about this need ... is it really happen during common usage that you don't want to restore previous unsaved route? I wasn't sure.

Current solution is fast clicking on "- routepoint" button in bottom left or long click on same button. I still fight with "OK" button at top which I don't like also, so it will need some better solution ... thanks

a.) the OK button is removed and
b.) then when I use the back button above left corner, a question dialog "saved yes / no" is come.

Optimize even further, and make consistent with other Locus dialogs - assume most common use-case is user wants to save their route
a) remove OK button and just always save when tap Back button
b) discard/ don't save if Discard tapped from ... top menu

Hello menion,

I would like to ask one improvement on 'Modify track' while editing recorded tracks.  Could you make to show the recorded time of the selected track point on the edit screen? For example, there is a enough space between track point name and (i) icon for that as shown in the first image.

Reason:
When I determine the point to apply edit command like 'cut part of track', 'split' and etc..., I always take into account the recorded time of the track point as well as the position. With the conventional 'Edit on map', the recorded time of the track point can be directly seen on the map screen, as shown in the second image. (Settings > Maps > Points & Tracks > Tracks popup content > 'Distance to GPS, Recorded time' have to be enabled). It is very handy to determine the exact track point because by simply tapping forward/backward track point button, the recorded time of the next/prev point can be flawlessly seen on the map screen without opening track points detail screen.

@Andrew Heard: I'm trying with this feature (save when close and restore on open) solve problem with occasional need to change map, display some points etc, during planning. Back button that always display "save track" screen, may be really disturbing I believe.

What about such change ...

It's easy to find, easy to work with and enough flexible to add another features if needed. Also keeps current save/restore system and prevent accidental tap on "ok" button on top when you wanted to tap on "menu" button. It also opens with "swipe" from left so it's quite quick.

@ta-ka: thanks, agree, I've added it also to this new editor, thanks

Hi guys,
is in rest of Europe also such hot like in Czech during last days? It is even too much on bike. Well at least time for new Beta ;).

Release is planned on next Wednesday, so feel free to write me, if there will be any problem. I have temporary disabled new route planner & track editor features, because they need some more tests and improvements and I do not want to publish them yet officially. Thanks!

40°C? :). Fortunately in latest Beta is highly optimized drawing of points on the map, so phone may not heat too much now with 1000+ visible geocaches ;).

No need to hurry with "field testing" and stay "cool" :)

3.24.3.15 - from the poll (http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=597e2d5fe4b04db9c7cc6d95) I see track ending time (8 votes) still not featured in statistics although distance downhill (3 votes) and pace (6 votes) remain in the list.

Very disappointing indeed.
Let us define options a way out:
1) Menion can put the end time to the Information tab - there is plenty of room next to "Created" information - trivial to implement, but one additional click to find it and no full overview page at all
2) there is no need to waste space for subtitles in the stats page - use the room to introduce one additional row: start and end time. When re-sorting this page, also put min and max height into one line (beauty contest :-)

Hi guys,
as wrote in poll ... "Result should affect order of visible values on various places in Locus Map app.".
I made this poll not to add or remove anything. I made to made myself clear what are global preferences and not to be too influenced by myself.

Btw. I tried to place start and end into single line and it's not possible, not enough space.

Did you try dd.mm.yy,hh:mm - no letters for needed to display. And "20" is unique for the next 83 years :-)
