Geocaching4Locus is a Locus add-on allows you to download and import Geocaches directly from Geocaching.com site. This is a helpful if you need to get information about Geocaches directly on the place. Also supports updating already stored Geocaches in Locus, Live map and many more.

Note for Geocaching Basic Members:
Basic members are limited to download full details of 3 Geocaches per 24 hours period. Searching nearest Geocaches functionality find only Traditional Geocaches (Importing specific Geocache from URL or from manually entered GC code is not limited). Also Basic members can not use Container size, difficulty and terrain filter. Premium members are not practically limited. For more information, see manual.

I suggest to read manual first. You can found here: http://geocaching4locus.eu/manual/

Required permissions:
• Fine (GPS) location - need to get Coordinates from GPS (GPS is not required)
• Coarse (network-based) location - need to get Coordinates ranged using Wi-Fi or cellular network
• Full Internet access - for download Geocaching data

If you have some problems with this application, see manual at http://geocaching4locus.eu/manual/ or ask on discussion forum
at http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=549. Also you can ask me directly via e-mail: arcao@arcao.com.

where can I get info on what this addon does, and how?
Title: Re: Addon - Geocaching
Post by: jctmarques on May 02, 2011, 17:03:49
Tested and is promising.
For now only provides showing of 50 near geocaches. Would be great if it saves account info to get only unfound geocaches... and 50 at a time (next 50,etc)
Would be awesome if it retrieves geocache descriptions, hint and logs.
I'm very happy to see this first step in online geocaching with Locus.

WOW, the first step looking good:-)
Searching is very fast. When you add support for filtering, description, hint, gc.com link to online page, application will be perfect.
Good job:-)

I tried this addon while my daily running. First it seems to working great. Then I had the problem that the addon don't take my actual position to download caches. The addon takes a position about 4 km away from my actual position. There are more then 500 caches in a 5 km radius. So I get the wrong caches. :-(

1. It would be nice, if the addon just print out the acual position it takes while doing the download. So it is more easy to check some strange behaivor.

2. It would be nice, if it would be at least the actual position.

Hi Arcao, I've just installed/upgraded to the newest version from the Android Market and can't figure out how to call the add on from the regular Locus Pro app. If I long tap the screen on an offline map, I get an address displayed for that particular place (via online services that Locus is connectiong to) and that's it. If I tap the address "popup box", I get a next window though, but there is nothing but the default Locus menus and "commands". Nothing about the Display nearest 50 caches.

Can you let me know, please what I'm  doing wrong?  ;)

EDIT: Locus 1.7.2

Call Geocaching4Locus directly from Locus is possible since Locus ver. 1.7.3. Tap on map in Locus then tap on button with address and use the right icon with tooth wheels. There is shortcut to call G4L with selected location.

Hello my friends! After long time we have a new version of Geocaching4Locus addon. But it is still a beta version. As you see GUI is not final yet. Please look at first post and try the test version (probably it is necessary to uninstall a previous version). Don't forget to write your opinion. :)

Edit: In G4L dialog, press menu to show preferences. :)

FANTASTIC addon. It took a while to find where to add in my GC login details but it works brilliantly showing only caches I haven't found or own. The fact that complete listing selection gives browser or other apps (such as the GC one) means you really don't need the download each listing which would probably hit the GC site a bit much and take much longer. Well done. 5 stars well earned in the market. The only slight improvement I can think of at this stage is that it would be good to have access to the addon from somewhere more convenient.
Title: Re: Addon - Geocaching
Post by: wvb on June 30, 2011, 21:23:23
thanks for the update!
also great to hear you guys got a beta code for the GC.com api!!

I just took a look at this addon today and really like it, it has some great potential!
a couple of things I miss though (some of them you already have on your todo list :) )
- import all cache info (like a PocketQuery - possibly only for Premium members)
- ability to log a visit or upload/log a Field Note (pc-less GC'ing :) )
- have an option to update the caches automatically when the map moves (if you want to screen the area for caches when on a trip)
- option to download spoiler pics and additional pictures in cache description (for a complete offline trip)
- if a cache is imported like a month ago, have the option to update the logs (for example you prepared caches for a vacation and can't find the cache so you can update the logs)

I'm more of an unplanned cacher, I go someplace and then think to myself "this looks like a nice place to cache.." :)

would like to know your view on the topics offcourse :)

Could you share the secret? I didn't find where to put my GC details. If I start the addon, it goes straightly into bussines and downloads 50 nearby caches. No way to filter out mine and/or found by me caches.

Another improvment (or lesson for me) would be the ability to filter by cache type. At least most of the mystery caches are not needed when you do ex tempore (unplanned) geocaching.

Actually nothing special. I tried several times and now it imports caches. But they're not personalized as my finds are not marked..

Update: It seems the problem is all about logging in to gc. Com. When i enable "skip found" it gives me the error. When it's unchecked it works. I suppose it then doesn't try to log in...

Nice to see the API version (1.3.5) released - it seems to take much longer to download 200 caches than with GSAK API (using wifi connection). Maybe API is throttled.

Not sure if it happened with old version but my own hides are displayed regardless of whether hide finds option is selected. A hide Hides Option would be useful.

Keep up the excellent work.

New version is on a market. Some of translations is not finished yet. If you can help with translations you are welcome.

Changes in version 1.3.5:
* For downloading caches is used a service. Thus it is not problem to download caches on a background.
* While downloading all necessary informations are visible through the notifications.
* G4L use a new Geocaching API.

ruderik: I know that in G4L is missing checkbox for own caches. It will be in next version. The checkbox for found caches could work I think.

Hi Arcao,

I tried it yesterday and experienced some issues...
Caches didn't seem to download and after a while the notification icon said 100% but the bar wasn't filled.
Also there didn't seem to be any way to remove the notification icon.
That was on a modified original Samsung rop, I'm running a CM7 nightly now.
Sorry for the vague description, will try sope more with this rom.

wvb: Try a second icon that looks like a table after progress bar in list of languages. This icon open table with original and translated columns. If some text is not translated the text "No Translation (Click to add)" is shown here. You can click on this text to translate it. Also bellow table are icons to navigate between pages. I hope this helps you.

About notification problem I know about it. It will be solved in next version.

I would very much like this feature too :)

Also, the ability to import 1 cache.
It would be great if we could list nearest caches without importing them (this is already possible) and then click 1 cache and choose to import it (this part is not yet possible from what I can see).

Just tested new Locus and new GC4L and it's working fine!

dibrial: On current Locus API is this not possible to do. I had already spoken with Menion about this and probably it could not be problem to do it.

wvb: Yes, this is planned in future. I call it "Lists". Importing caches will be in two steps. The first one download a simple data and show them in a list. User can uncheck / check caches to not import. In the second step G4L for caches to import download full data (it will be possible to set in preferences). List could be possible to save or load from sdcard (I have already prepared own format, but GPX format couldn't be problem to implement).

Post by: wvb on August 24, 2011, 08:47:36
This sounds very nice! :)
Especially that you allow export/import.

I currently use 2 apps for geocaching.
The way I get my caches with the other app is:
- zoom to a certain level on the map
- the app shows all caches that are on the visible part of the map (if I zoom out it will show more, if I zoom in less)
- I check on the map which cache I want to hunt
- I click on that cache to import it
Is this something you plan on adding as this is the way I really like :)

I never prepare anything when I go caching, I just arrive somewhere and then check if there are any caches in the surroundings and choose one on a location I like :)

Hi there.
Just using Locus Pro 1.12.0 and gc4locus 1.3.6.1 and have a problem with "terénní poznámky" (terrain notes). When i added "found it" note -> the icon of this cache changed to "smile" aka found it. But, when i added "write note" to this found cache, the icon changed back to normal icon (depends on cache). Weird, when i delete this "write note," "found it" is still there, the icon is still normal (not smile). But (again :D) in one cache i have already found, have both "found it" and "write note" there and icon of this cache is "smile."
I really do not understand it :)
I would like to have smile icons everywhere.

Second thing, hope in your addon will be option which allow us to download full info about caches (full listing WITH PICTURES, more logs).

Thanks for your work Arcao!!!

and, what about "write note" icon? because a lot of folks just write note for example on mystery cache and go to find it a few days (weeks) later. it will be nice to find this cache at the first look into the map.

I'm feeling like I'm a bit daft here, but I can't figure out how to make G4L work without an existing waypoint on the map.  That's in itself not a big deal, create a waypoint in the middle of where I want to hunt, then the Gear icon on it.  But the instructions just say "tap the map".  I assume this means "tap a waypoint on the map"?  Just making sure I'm not missing something here.  :)

Also, is this using the new Geocaching API to do the imports, or some other method?

Thanks!

Oooooh, I disabled that, I see now.  I kept getting it randomly "Loading" while I was scrolling around on the map.  I'll experiment some more, but probably just wind up putting a temporary waypoint.  I wonder if his app can have a button in Locus "Search for caches from middle of map" or something..

Quote from: "menion"to be everything clear ... tap LONG click on map ;) ... and yes, Arcao use geocaching API

Aha cool, good to hear he's using the API.  They claim only two apps do, NeonGPS or something and their own terrible app.

What would be cool is to tie existing caches into the API as well, if it can...  I'd love to be able to download the latest data on a cache to get the most recent logs, maybe make sure there's no coordinate change etc.  Per-cache basis is perfectly fine in that regard, as usually the times I do this I can't find a cache and I'm looking at hints, logs etc and want to refresh the cache just in case it's disabled or there's more recent logs to help ;)

Also, logging from the field would be cool, but maybe that could be done in Locus.  I'll bring that up in the Geocaching tools thread.

Hi

I have an issue with geocaching4locus. As soon as I disable one of the checkboxes "Funde zeigen" ("Show found caches") or "Zeige versteckte" ("Show caches hidden by your own") geocaching4locus fails with an exception after pressing the button "search and show in Locus":

  Error while downloading data (IOException)
  Exception: GeocachingApiException
  File: LiveGeocachingApi.jave
  Line: 287

I'm using the newest Market version.
It took me some time to find out that this exception is related to the two checkboxes. Since I know this now, I can set the checkboxes accordingly. But maybe you can have a look at this and fix this. I like this tool very much and would like it even more, if I could hide "unimportand" caches.

Thanks

Arcao:
I made the hungarian translation.

I have intention to make a variant of your program in favour of the hungarian cacher community /ok: in favour of me :-)/ which should do the same in Hungary. We have an own site in hungarian (geocaching.hu) which have an own set of caches. Lots of people use both of them but there is no such program which can use them together. Now I downloaded the caches from geocaching.com with your addin into the category gcom, and the hungarian caches into the category ghu, but I only have the possibility to download it from the webpage wich is handled by Locus, but not convenient and the gpx file contains lots of bad data. This is why I thought, that I would need something similar. But I don't want to reuse your program without your permission.

Thanks

Love this add-on!  Thanks very much for developing it.

How difficult would it be to program the app to connect to information on http://www.waymarking.com/ (http://www.waymarking.com/) (Affiliated with geocaching.com) and/or http://www.opencaching.com/ (http://www.opencaching.com/)  Certainly neither are a neccesity....but if you so chose to do that, I'd certainly send you a donation.  :D

Thanks again.  Art

Yes. I agree with Dibial. Logs and cache status should  be updated and not duplicated when you import  again.

I'm hoping when Menion finishes his evaluation with GC.com with their API this will be how the behavior works...

Don't think it will be in current implementation of Locus with GC.com

It would also be great if adjusted listing coordinates and personal cache notes would be imported and the cache would show up at the user changed coordinate on the map.

Is this posible to implement?

With newly imported caches I do see an update cache button. With previously imported caches I don't see the button.
Do you mean the update doesn't show up, or clicking update cache doesn't work at all?
I haven't been able to test the button, because the cache is not updated nor logged.

I too see an "Update cache" but only on ones I've loaded from the add-on.  It would be nice if this would work for caches imported via Pocket Queries as well.

Hi all.

I am a BIG fan of Locus and have started GeoCaching and this addon looks superb.

My problem is that I do have a tendency to be cautious putting usernames and passwords into apps that then reference none connected websites.  I have read that GeoCaching.com advises no android app is given your username and password to geocaching.com and so I am a little cautious.

Is this addon safe to use please?

Thanks alot

(sorry if this post seems a little pointless and please forgive me if I have offended the writers of the addon - but I just dont know if I shiould input my username and password).

Because they want you to buy their useless $10 app instead ;)  And I'll also note that their app requires this as well, they have no OAUTH mechanism in their API that I've noticed, so unlike things like Facebook, Twitter etc that you login to a webpage to authorize an app, you put your credentials directly in the app, be it this app, other Geocaching apps, or the "official" app.

Locus + Geocaching Addon puts the "official" app to shame.

phoneguy100: Yes, it's a safe. Communication with Grounspeak geocaching API is secured using https protocol. And your account credentials is only stored in your phone to able log-in to their API. If you don't trust me you can download / fork sources on github and compile it yourself (see a first post of this thread).

Khaytsus: They already have something like OAuth ver.1, but not yet implemented in an addon. I don't see it critical at the moment.

Thanks stebu, Khaytsus.

Many thanks Arcao.

I agree that the addon is a million times better than the offical groundspeak one which is really quite poor and so I have been using the addon with great sucess.  forgive my caution, it is nothing personal - I am just a cautious person and am usually very particular about passwords etc etc only being used in the software that officially requests them.

Anyway, all that aside, I appreciate the comments and am extremely pleased with the addon so I give my thanks to Arcao.

Cheers.  :-)

Hello!
Geocaching for Locus is a very nice tool, better than c:geo i think. Thanks for this very good work.
My problem: I use this addon with the options "get 200 caches", "Download all cache data on displaying", "only short description" (I don't know the right terme, I translate back from german), "import caches". And then, I import them to a special category-layer I created for caches, and this works fine. But - everey time I click on a cache-icon, it downloads the whole cache-information. This is nice, but it where better when this information would be stored in the category by the first time to show, so i haven't to download this every time. If I want to save a cache, I have no other way as create a new search with other options now (not only load short description). or is there a shorter way, to made some caches "offline" readable?

Sorry for my poor english

The new "Import to Locus" functionality for URLs like http://coord.info/GC12345 (http://coord.info/GC12345) has a small problem:
When I open a cache in Locus and click on the cache URL in the cache detail screen, Android offers me to open the URL using the browser or using "Import to Locus" using the addon.
"Import to Locus" leads to an error here ("Geocaching4Locus" wurde unerwartet beended - "Geocaching4Locus" was stopped unexpectedly).

Anyway, Geocaching4Locus is a cool addon, and importing caches from notification emails works properly!

SL-Basilisk: Current version of Locus supports to download full info about caches only once when is requested (when cache detail is shown). Yes the "simple cache" term is a little bit confusing. I plan to change it in a next version.

mambofive: Hm, strange! Could you try to simulate again and capture a device log by CatLog (//https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nolanlawson.logcat)? Thanks.

HoradricCZ: This is planed but impossible to implement at the moment. It's necessary to do some changes in Locus.

It is just as Dibrial wrote, it can be done with every Unknown and Multi-cache but this feature is linked to every single user. Everyone can correct coordinates and after that it is visible by this user only. So I cannot send you a cache code, unfortunately.

Arcao,
thanks for the great software,it replaced c:geo as my everyday geocaching app, and so far i haven't really missed c:geo.

I have a few questions about it though:

Is there a way to see pictures that aren't included in the listing, e.g. spoiler pics? Are those pictures imported into Locus when I download geocaches? Sometimes, when I'm out in the wild with no internet connection (e.g. in a foreign country), it would be helpful if I had the spoiler with me to help me find the cache.

Second question: So far I don't think your addon is capable of downloading information about Trackables. It shows me which trackables are in a certain cache, but when I click on one of them to read their listing, it takes me to the trackables (online) web site. Do you think it's possible to include this functionality in a future version of your addon? That way, I could download all the information about the caches and their trackables before I leave for geocaching (e.g. in a foreign country with an expensive internet connection) and still know what a certain trackable's objective is.

And finally two questions, but I think this can probably only be solved in Locus and has nothing to do with your addon:
I made a new category in my POIs for the geocaches. Is it possible to update all loaded caches at once, or all marked caches? I haven't found a way to do that yet, so far the only way I see is to select every cache, tap on that toothed wheel and choose "update cache".
When I download a number of caches and import them into my POI, is there a way to have them shown on the map right away, or do I have to go to the POI list and select them all?

I admit, these questions are more than a matter of comfort using Locus and your addon than actual problems, but it would make geocaching with locus even more convenient. ;)

Thanks a lot,
Leo aka TwoWheeler89

Hi, just an observation - when I update a cache which got archived via the addon, the coordinates are reset to S0.0 W0.0. Possibly the API returns null or these values. Is there a way how to ignore this info during the update and keep the original coordinates? Who would have to fix it (arcao, menion or both)?

Hi! Great addon! Thanks for it, it is really of great value!

It would be even greater if it displays the number of favorites a cache has received (and also to be able to sort caches list by this parameter). Is it possible to include this info? I can see a space for it above the stars in the list of caches! :)

And a function that updates all selected caches at once would be also great!
Title: Re: Addon - Geocaching
Post by: Martin Sloup on March 29, 2012, 13:41:53
pmoravec: If you mean "Update cache" in cache dialog menu, yes it is possible from G4L side. Because Locus sends to G4L complete cache information. So I added it to issue list: https://github.com/arcao/Geocaching4Locus/issues/13 (https://github.com/arcao/Geocaching4Locus/issues/13)

wlashack: Info probably yes (needs changes in Locus and Locus Data API to show favorite points). Sorting of search results without downloading the cache data isn't possible, Geocaching API doesn't support it. After downloading cache data probably yes, but it's a question for menion, I think.

Hello everybody!!! Developing of new version 1.4 is finished, so bellow is link to latest release candidate apk if you want to help with testing:

//http://files.arcao.com/android/geocaching4locus/Geocaching4Locus-1.4-rc3.apk

Changes in a version 1.4:

How to use Live map
At first be sure you have allowed sending map changes to other application from locus (enable in Locus: Settings → Other → Enable periodic updates).  Now you can allow downloading caches to map in G4L. You can do it by two ways. The first one is to mark Live map checkbox in G4L preferences (under Downloading section). The second one is by toggle button in a new G4L menu in Locus right panel (add G4L to right panel: Menu  → Functions → Set right panel → Add link - feature → CO-APPS → Geocaching4Locus).

How to store cache from Live Map
Click on cache from Live map to download complete information about cache. In cache preview dialog use button with symbol "+" to store cache.

Creating user waypoints from personal cache note (PM only)
G4L automatically recognize coordinates started by cardinal point (e.g. N 49° 44.838 E 013° 22.674) in a personal cache note and add them between Waypoints. Also you can specify waypoint name if on the same line before coordinates is written waypoint name followed by colon:
Station 1: N 49° 44.838 E 013° 22.674 - Degree and minute representation with degree symbol
Station 2: N 49 44.738 E 013 22.774 - Degree and minute representation without degree symbol
Station 3: N 49 44 55.1 E 013 22 18.5 - Degree, minute and seconds representation without degree, minute and second symbol
All rest text after coordinates is ignored.

Note: Degree, minute or second symbol in coordinates isn't required, only cardinal point is.

Firstly, I don't think this is a topic for getSatisfaction, since this is not menion's plugin, but Arcao's.

Secondly, if you import a cache with edited coordinates (at least in the last market version of Arcao's plugin), I think that the edited coordinates are imported as "Final location 1". I did not have the opportunity to check, if the geocache is moved on them if we mark the "Move to final position" setting.

Personal cache note - this is probably a PM's feature, right?
Title: Re: Addon - Geocaching
Post by: Martin Sloup on March 31, 2012, 13:45:37
neum: Both are implemented in 1.4-rc3. The Corrected coordinates is already in 1.3.9.1 (on Google Play, formerly Android Market). Only one problem is here with personal cache note. Locus doesn't accept changes in personal cache note when update the cache.

pmoravec: Yes, it's PM feature.

I love the geocaching add-on, but I did something that I can't seem to undo.
The www button that appears when a geocache is selected used to ask which application to open. I selected the wrong option once, and ticked the box for locus to remember my choice, now I cannot change the choice. How can I undo this?

Thanks, Rob.
Title: Re: Addon - Geocaching
Post by: Martin Sloup on April 05, 2012, 17:24:25
Hi,
You can change the choice if you know how to do it. This is Android feature. If for some action can be run more application, Android will ask you which application do you want to run. At the bottom of a list is check box to remember choice. I guess you mark the check box. So If you want to change your choice you must find the application which are starting for that action in Android Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> (Geocaching4Locus I guess or some other app which is started for that action) and in a screen with information about the App, touch on button Clear defaults. Now when you do that action again Android ask you what to do. (RTFM or Google it: How to change default Android apps)

Hello, I have just started using Locus Pro and Geocaching4Locus. Thank you for the latest release that you just published.

I have been looking at the new features with Personal Cache Notes. I think I have found a couple of issues

1) In portrait mode, there is no scrolling in the text box, so I'm unable to get to the bottom of the text box to make any changes. Itlooks like the length of the text determines if scrolling is enabled. In portrait mode the text fills the window and it isn't till the keyboard is visible that the text can not be reached. The issue might be true in landscape if there is only a little bit of text.

2) When I try to save the changes Locus aborts with a Forced Closure.

Thank you,

Richard

Hi,
thanks for report and also Arcao for very nice update. Best for reporting issues is globally "description + log with error" and on right place. This is good place for issues related to add-on. I don't know exactly in which place is problem with scrolling of text. Anyway if this place is in Locus, then best is to report this issue on get satisfaction, otherwise here as you did. Second problem is for sure problem of locus so such problems report me on GetSatisfaction, thanks. GetSatisfaction have advantage that other people can simply find same problems by keywords and also you should be simply notified about progress. But you already know this :)

EDIT: ah, I see that you also posted same problem on GetSatisfaction :) ok, we'll take care of it ...

Hi,
We are just back from geocaching in France and were very happy with Locus.
We did everything off-line.
So beforehand we had imported the PQ into Locus and all the necessary information was at hand when needed.
With Spoiler Sync we had downloaded the pictures and they were available in Locus too.
HOWEVER: many of the pictures had names with "funny" characters and Locus could not display them (they where nevertheless available in the right directory). Only the file name was given in Locus and there instead of the "funny" character a black question-mark symbol was shown. The image was just represented by a blue question-mark.
I guess this has to do with character-sets not matching.
Could anyone please look into this issue.
With many thanks for this great application,

Just a quick post to say thanks very much for the addition of Live Map. I tested the functionality quite thoroughly over the weekend & it proved to be very useful.

I originally used c:geo for the main Geocaching app and Locus to cache the maps, but rarely your add-on (as c:geo could pass the cache data to Locus), but after the removal of the Beta Maps on geocaching.com & subsequent removal of Live Mapping, I came to rely on Locus & your add-on.

Now that c:geo's Live Map has been re-implemented, but close to useless for actually finding a cache due to inaccuracies, your re-invention of the Live map functionality has proved to be a great asset! Thanks very much for your time & effort in creating this now-invaluable add-on. It combines all the great features of Locus with the Live Map functionality of the old c:geo.

Hi Arcao,
I have an idea how to update multiple caches at once:
If you are trying to import "new" caches and locus found duplicate cache, the warning dialog shows up. There are options for ignore, overwrite and skip. Will be a problem to add new "update" option there? If these caches have been already downloaded and we have all necessary data I think it can not be a problem to update them.
What do you think about it?

Title: Suggested improvements of live map with "corrected coordinat
Post by: 2012 on April 30, 2012, 08:47:18
Some views on and wishes for use of Geocaching4Locus/live map with "corrected coordinates" of gc.com:

I (and many other cachers that I know) solve a great number of mystery/unknown caches, and usually take a lot of time before having an opportunity to find the actual cache. I have these "solution coordinates" entered into the "corrected coordinates" system of gc.com. In all I have probably a couple of hundred unfound caches with "corrected coordinates" entered. Locus with G4L has some handling of this, but I think it could be better, or perhaps I need help in how to use it in a better way.

As it is now, I almost always use the "live map" feature of Locus + G4L, see a lot of traditional caches, unknowns, multis etc. The ones I've "solved" are in the wrong/public location, but if I select the cache and view the details, the cache icon is moved to the "corrected" location on the map. However, it seems as if as soon as the live map does an update, the cache icon is moved back to the wrong/public location. :(

Furthermore, the icon displayed for a "corrected" cache is the same as for a normal cache of the same type, making it impossible to see which cache icons indicate real locations, and which are "fake", without going into details view.

These are my wishes and hopes:
1. Let live map do a scan of displayed caches for "corrected coordinaes" and automatically and immediately move the cache icon to the "corrected coordinates" (automatically on cache load, or, if this would be too resource intensive, triggered by the user). (feature request?)
2. Use differentiated icons or a flag/marker on existing cache type icons to indicate a cache which has "corrected coordinates". (like c:geo handles the same case) (fix?)
3. Do not let a "live map" update revert a "corrected" cache icon back to the "public" location. (fix?)
4. Allow filtering out non-corrected unknowns/multis/etc - or rather, add an extra option to "force" (unfound) caches with corrected coordinates to be displayed regardless of cache type hide settings. (example use: "hide unknown caches, but override this for caches with corrected coordinates") (One possible issue here would be the "challenge" unknown caches, that are actually at the public coordinates, but these have as requirement to have "challenge" in the cache title, so that could be sorted out automatically too.) (feature request?)

Perhaps some of these things would work better with imported PQs instead of live mapping(?), but for me this is not a good option since I visit a lot of different areas and do not want to set up PQs all the time.
Title: Suggested improvements of live map with "corrected coordinat
Post by: 2012 on April 30, 2012, 09:00:02
Some added info:
Regarding #3 above, the setting of "download rest info on show" does not matter for this issue.

Also another feature request:
5. After viewing details for a cache with corrected coordinates and thereby causing the cache icon to move, recenter the map view on the new icon location. (In the current behaviour, the focus does not change, and it can be very hard to find where the "?"-icon moved.)

If there are some of these ideas that would be better directed at main Locus development, please tell me so. Also if arcao would rather like issues to be added to github, I'd be happy to do so.

Hello,
I have a category in Locus with a lot of geocaches imported with the addon Geocaching4Locus.
Now I want to sort them by update time to find the oldest, but it doesn't sort by update time. It looks like sorting by name?!
Perhaps the import of the points/geocaches doesn't set the update time?!...
Can somebody please check this...

Firstly Arcao, may I say this is a brilliant Add-on to Locus. But since the last update every time I use it, after powering down my Tablet. I have to re-enter my GC.com Username and password.
 The previous version retained these.

Edit: Found the cause, the previous version was moved with Apps2SD. After moving it back the problem went.

Betatesters needed!!!

I am ready to publish new long-awaited version 1.4.2(.1) that fix huge reported problem about logging to Geocaching.com account and also bringing  new features from a wish list.

Changes:
• Reworked logging to use OAuth authorization (ver. 1.4.2.1)
• Added updating more caches via Points screen - Tools button
• Corrected coordinates from GSAK are now keeped as it
• Added a cache size filter
• Added creating Spoilers tab (experimantal)
• Fixed lot of crashes caused by device orientation changes

Note to OAuth logging: Because of unusable limitation for Basic Member the G4L mask as Geocaching for Android app from GS that not have this limitation.

Arcao, I'm looking you're adding some support for Spoilers. Did you noticed "GC Offlinizer" feature in Locus? It's probably quite similar ... so if you want to add some feature, check please this Offlinizer and also how store data into Locus/data/geocaching directory. It's some system compatible with garming and I think it should be useful tu keep same system

Hi.
I like this addon very much and am using it almost daily for my geocaching life.
Yesterday I wanted to configure it on my friend's phone (he is a new geocacher) but the addon kept saying Login failed. I have tried entering my own account details and they worked.
I think this problem might have two reasons.
1) his nick contains an apostrophe ' and the addon/api is handling it wrong
2) his account is too new - maybe there is some delay after registration for it to be used via api?
Please take a look at this issue. He is considering paypal donating but now he is unable to use the addon.
Thank you.

Hi there.
I have a problem with update multiple caches at once.
I tried it with whole category (around 1600 caches) and got error that Locus stop working - out of memory ;D
I know, too many caches to update, but, Arcao, maybe you should divide whole update process to smal parts. For example divide by 10 caches - download informations for 10 caches and update them. Next 10, and so on. Maybe it will fix this out of memory issue.
By the way, are there any limits for multiple update?
And have another question: is possible to change icons of caches from live map? Now we do not know which caches are new and which we already have in database. For example add small star to icon. Also "live map" feature downloading caches which are already in db, so it duplicate caches on map screen. Is it normal behavior?
Finally I wanna thanks for your work!

telman: Try version 1.4.2.2. If you still getting a message "your session expired" try to open //http://geocaching.com on your android device and do the logout or clear cookies. Then try it again.

babi: First one: It's a limitation for Locus Data API because everything must be transfered in one time. Both me and menion know about it. The second: I will discuss it with menion.
Title: Re: Addon - Geocaching
Post by: Menion on August 08, 2012, 13:52:00
I'm not sure if huge overloading and mass updating of caches is really welcome. Main problem in whole system is in API I created for Locus. It's going to be too limited for enormous data requirements that a lot of caches have

Anyway, I want to discuss about "images" support you did. I think you little bit miss-understand point that images tab have. I created GC Offlinzer tool, that allow direct download images! And because some images (spoilers mainly) aren't in listing so they cannot be displayed, I create this images that that display all already "offlined" images. But your solution just create one html file, but images are still loaded from internet on request, not pre-downloaded!

PS: little bit funny to discuss it here in English anyway I just wanted to make this public so also others may comment it

so I suggest these solutions
1) download also images and make them completely offline, so it will have same function as Offlinizer in Locus (is this needed?)
2) check for spoilers and if users wants to have them there, add just "<img src...> html code to the end of long listing. It have also big benefit that loading of caches will be still fast, that GC Offlinizer will in this case download also spoilers and finally that users will have spoilers visible directly in the end of listing without need to use any other tool (like mentioned Offlinizer)
3) or remove this feature at all :)

... from my point of view, second solution seems most useful for me

Hi,
I also have massive problems since last update 1.4.2.2 of the geocaching addon. One of the former updates worked very well, why was it changed?

At the moment I neither can
- update a single cache
- nor download new caches
- look at the live geocaches
- login to geocaching.com with locus

This is my workflow:
When I start the addon it says equivilant in German: Invalid Username or password. Please check the login-stat in the settings.
When I press ok it moves to settings menu. Login of geocaching.com appears on top.
When I choose login at geocaching.com the browser is opened. Even if I
- deleted all cookies before entering the Browser,
- type the right Geocaching Password and Username and push "sign in" Geocaching.com sends:
"Either your session has expired or your authorization credentials have failed. Please try again if oyu believe this is an error".

I am very desperate, can anybody help me (and obviously others) :?: ? Without the working addon I can't go geocaching.

I have found another logging problem. Previous release fixed problems with loging to geocaching.com when downloading caches, but today i was on another geocaching hunt, found five caches and tried to log them online directly from the locus. But when I try to post the log to geocaching.com, browser with geocaching.com opens, I have to log in, then grant the access to Locus by Locus application, afterwards it looks like the cache was successfuly logged, as it is marked as found in locus. I had to do the same procedure for every cache, ie. altogether five times.

I came back home, checked geocaching.com site and there was no logged cache from me today. In locus five logs, on gc.com nothing.

Please check it. I am using mobile phone with Android 2.2.

But there is a little problem with the import process now:
After importing a new cache , Locus 2.6.0 don't focus at the location of the cache although the function in import template is set. Maybe these is a problem between Locus and G4L?

If I go to Data and then into one of my cache-folders and then chose to update several caches there, it seems to work like a re-import and I'm asked which folder to import these caches to. Is it possible to skip this question and simply chose the folder where the caches have been in? Sometimes I forget to change that folder and have them imported into the wrong one, since the last folder that has been used for imports is preselected.

Of course, the best solution would be if "updating" these caches would really only update them and not reimport them, but I bet it's a limitation you cannot circumvent. Can anything be done about this?

Hi guys,

I want to report a little problem previously discussed at gc.cz. When I download information about mystery cache with corrected coordinates at gc.com, two other WPs appaer - Original Coordinates and Final location 1. The bug is, that all three WPs (including the cache itself) are with the same coordinates. Is it really bug, or some kind of feature? :-)

Thanks,
Voldik

Hi,

I just downloaded the latest Geocaching Addon and I can't login to my Geocache account. I clicked "Login" in the preferences, the browser opens and I have to enter my login data on geocaching website. After signing in I have to allow access to Geocaching.com. But by allowing access the browsers tries to open the following website: x-g4l://oauth.callback/callback?oauth_verifier=Uz7iHes%3D&oauth_token=7UHio28qaBdslprP6UcmvUMCS8g%3D , which can't be opend. What did I wrong? How can I solve the login problem?

Hi,
there seems to be a problem in the Geocaching addon.
I have it set to download 200 caches, 30 logs per cache, in 10km radius (and then import them to Locus). The download was working correctly until 50/200 caches downloaded, then stopped for a while and crashed with error message "Network unavailable. Please check your connection". I tried it 5 times - 3 times yesterday and 2 times today. It always failed at this same spot 50/200. Then I restarted my phone and I was able to download more than 50, it failed somewhere on 130 (don't know because I was not watching the display at that time). My connection is working fine. How can I diagnose the problem in-depth and analyse what's going wrong?

edit
Now I tried doing the same on my friend's wifi network and it downloaded like 180 caches successfully. Then it asked me for a category to import them into, and I picked one. It started importing the caches up until 50 caches and then whole Locus crashed. I chose the Report option but before that, I looked inside the report and saw that there was an Out of memory exception. So it looks like problems with it are not solved in latest version of geocaching addon (as written in changelog).

I recently got a new phone (HTC Evo V 3D 4G), and installed Locus and your Geocaching addon.  I used them for over a year on my previous phone (Galaxy S) without any issues.  Now, when i try to login  it says "Error Occurs!" in blue, then "Invalid Username or Password.  Please check your log-in state in preferences."  I'm not sure what a "login state" is, but when i click "ok", and then "Log in", it sends me out to www.geocaching.com (http://www.geocaching.com) where it asks me to log in.  When i do, i get an e-mail from www.geocaching.com (http://www.geocaching.com) almost immediately telling me that it was successful, but the web site just pushes me out to another page, and it loops... asking for user name and password again, successful again, etc.  I end up logged in to the web site, but it seems to have no effect on the app itself as it always fails login.

I'm running version 1.4.2.5.  Please let me know if there's a fix for this, or if i'm the only one having this problem..

 Thanks!

Cdriy

That is because Locus automatically decrypts the hint using ROT13, but GC.com website displays it encrypted by default.

Well, i m using locus for geocaching and is awesome.
However, only send the correct coordinates for google navigation. TMN drive is offline and is very, but very good for navigation.
When select navigation, it appear two options: google navigation and tmndrive. If select google navigation, everything works and show me the route, but if select tmndrive, give an error that can't understand the coordinates. Maybe the format Isn't compatible. Because it works with neongeo...
For example, google maps can use this tmn drive directly. Why don't Geocaching 4 locus?

Hello, I have an idea for this addon.
I am just a basic member so I cannot put caches to ignore list, but there are quite many caches in proximity of my HC that I know I will probably never get (mostly the T5 ones or some unsolvable mystery caches). From time to time I update my geocaches via this addon in Locus so I have fresh logs and fresh caches since some of them might have been disabled or archived. But if I delete those T5 caches, they come back after downloading caches in the area.
So what I propose, is an ignore list based on GC codes, these caches would not be downloaded and some other cache would be downloaded instead of it.
What do you think?

Hello geocaching players,

It has been a long time since the last version of Geocaching4Locus was released. And I think it's almost time to release a new version.

All main new features are finished and now it's about testing and fixing bugs.

So what is new from user side?

Hello, I found some bug. I can not update any cache with this version. Out of cachelist with one checkbox and tool symbol I get the messate: "array size too large"
and "Out of memory".
If I use update in detailpage systemtray says geocaching4locus crashed. I sent report.
When I deinstall and install the current PlayStore version, it works. Back to the test version, the bug is reproducable again.

Arcao: I lost this function: Creating user waypoints from personal cache note. I use it for Final waypoint (Final: N 49° 44.838 E 013° 22.674), in previous versions work it correct, download info about caches and if there was personal note with Final: ..., than it automaticaly corrected coordinates of cache. Marran: Coordinates written in a personal cache note create custom waypoints in Locus only. If you need to change coordinates of the cache, you must use corrected coordinates feature on GC site (click on pencil icon after the coordinates). Don't forget to turn on "Move to final waypoint" in Geocaching preferences in Locus (//http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:settings:geocaching#global).

Yes, when I have in personal note: "Final: 49 ...", than previous version of GC4Locus create Final waypoint and Locus automaticaly move cache to corrected coordinates (depend on my Locus settings). But now, final waypoint wasnt created.

Hi Arcao!

I really like your app as I am a big fan of GC :)

Could you please consider adding more filter options in next versions?  Filter or sort by country would be great because at this moment I have around 2000 caches stored offline as points in Locus (most of them Croatia and Slovenia).

Same question for you Menion too! It would be great to have more sorting/filtering options of geocaching points stored offline, like filtering by distance and country so I could easily make points folder for each country separately.

Thanks :)

Its really sad to say that but I also switched to another app called a:drake  :( . Absolutely not as good as Locus Pro but it works, especially loading caches and logging.

I'm also a software developer and I really cannot understand why it needs so long to release a new version  :?: . If it is too complicated to implement it for both non-premium and premium gc members then cancel it for non-premium members and only offer it for premium members.

Maybe the delay is being caused by Groundspeak? A quick update from the developer would be welcome. Using different Geocaching apps has made be realise just how good Locus is for caching.
Title: Re: [Addon] Geocaching4Locus
Post by: sukmar on March 22, 2013, 21:15:46
Yes that's right but if I offer an app to a bigger community I have a kind of responsiblity for it and them. Its the same with geocaching: If I hide a cache I have the responsibility to repair it if somebody tells me it needs maintenance - and I also do this in my spare time.

The most easiest thing would be to offer the app only for premium-members (at the moment - until a version that fits for both kinds of users will be implemented). I don't know the geocaching-API but there must be a way to determine the member type of a user.

I also would pay some Euros for the addon because it's worth it! I also purchased the pro version of Locus after having tested it some weeks!

Small problem: in early versions of G4L was solved mystery cache moved to its corrected coords, in 1.5.1 dont.

description:
- when I have in personal note at cache listing this note: Final: N 49 12.345 E 17 12.345, than G4L create Final waypoint, this work correct
- in early versions, after import that caches with creating Final wp, was cache automaticaly moved to its corrected coords and was marked as "solved"
- in version 1.5.1 this dont happen, but if I open Final wp, edit him (no need change, just start edit and save), then cache moved to corrected coords like in previous version automaticaly

I dont know if this is problem of G4L or Locus or only my phone, but it start with new version of G4L.

hey Arcao,

it works great!

I'm glad you made the change so G4L is compliant with GC rules, this will ensure it will remain available in the long run.

I have been a Premium member for a few years but at the moment am a Basic member.
3 full caches a day suffice for now so no problem :)
If I need more, I'll go back to Premium.
I understand from GC point of view that server costs have to be paid too.

I published next Release Candidate version, that could fix crashes after device rotation (caused by new version of Android Support library). Also localizations are updated:

I am so glad this great add on is back!

BUT I have a problem. It worked fine at first, but then the login problem appeared again :( After succesfull login to geocaching.com (verification email received OK) there are no caches on map and while checking the login status I am asked to log in again :/ And logging in in doesn't help at all, the add on asks me to log in again... This problem appears only with geocaching4locus, no with geocaching live for instance.

I have the latest versions fLocus and geocaching4locus.

Axel: Basic member can search (this is applied also for Live Map) only traditional caches. It's limitation from Groundspeak side for Basic members. Found caches should be displayed only, when you has checked "Show found" check box, see here: http://geocaching4locus.eu/manual/prefe ... toc-filter (http://geocaching4locus.eu/manual/preferences#toc-filter).

I really don't like what is happening with the [Addon] Geocaching4Locus app. The version 1.5.1 is just stupid. I was using this app because I am not a premium user of geocaching. com. And know you try to push me to this.

I went back to version 1.5 you can find it on Google.
Please bring back the old way to do it or integrate both.

People, please understand that what is done was needed to comply to the license agreement of GC.com

3 caches per day is enough, if it isn't then you need to go premium..
GC.com also needs to pay servers and traffic etc.
Users indeed "make" the game but if they pull the plug on the servers it's done..

I'm not a premium user and I'm happy with the new version.

from my point of view, I'm not big fan of 30$ price. I know prices for server and thanks to huge amount of people, I'm sure, price should be lower.

Anyway everything cost something. Even if you have Google Maps for free, even if you have OSM maps for free, always someone have to pay for this. So it's absolutely OK, that there should be some way for income for Groundspeak

And finally, don't blame Arcao for what he did. He had two choices ... remove and stop work on this add-on completely or change a way how it works to system that Groundspeak wanted! and continue in his work. So you should be glad he choose second possibility. I'm just still surprised, that he spend so much time on it, and .. for free

anyone having sign in problems with G4L? I cannot pass the second stage when I'm asked to authorize an access after the username and password got validated. It worked fine with one of the beta releases before 1.5.1 was released but now it is back. When an error while downloading caches occurs, an error message is displayed (for example Service temporarily unavailable). After dismissing it and tapping Download to Locus botton again, it does nothing. After closing the G4L window again and opening it via Locus menu, it displays progress of downloading caches immediately, and is in, say, 50%. It looks like the "push of the button that does nothing" started downloading of caches but without displaying the progress bar.

you have to separate Locus and Geocaching4Locus!

both apps have separate system
- upload field notes and download PQ is feature of Locus. If this works for you, this means, you're probably already logged in Locus!
- downloading caches is feature of G4L and if G4L need from you login, this means you're not logged in in G4L

Hi,

i've got a problem using Geocaching4Locus within Locus. After choosing "Nach Locus herunterladen" (something like "download to locus") the answer is "Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten! External storage (or SD Card) is not writeable. Exception: GeochachingApiException)". This behaviour can be reproduced.

BTW Dropbox acts similar: if i 'tab' on a file, dropbox reacts with the message "Speicher ist voll oder nicht verfügbar" (something like "Memory is full or not available").
All other apps (i.e. ES Explorer) do not have an issue using the build in sd-card.

Does anyone have an idea, what the cause of this error is?

Hard-/Software:
Nexus 4, Android 4.3 (rooted with N-Cry 3.4)
Locus 2.15.1
Geocaching4Locus 1.5.3.2.

Thanks,

It's simply a great Addon for Locus.
I have a question to all users and/or the developers. Since the last update some icons of geocaches get a little crown (see attached screenshot). I can't find any information about this. Also can't recognize a logic behind this - seems to me it's just a flag for all downloaded caches via G4L?!?
Thanks for alle replies in advance!

Title: New testing version
Post by: Martin Sloup on January 17, 2014, 16:35:29
Hello geocachers,

New testing version 1.5.4-rc3 was released.

Changes for version 1.5.4:
• Improved Live map support
• Added notification when Live map is working
• Added configuration choice to show notification even if the Live map is disabled
• Permission to access external storage because of sending geocaches to Locus is not required any more, internal storage used instead (this fix a lot of errors received recently)
• Fixed wrong handling of plain text short/long geocache description
• Fixed App start crashes
• Other minor fixes

If you want to join to beta testing (you will receive test versions automatically from Google Play), join to Google+ Geocaching4Locus beta testing community (https://plus.google.com/communities/100491385626095334576) and follow instruction there.

Uff. I didn't expect that someone reach the limit because it's 30 requests per minute and as you knows the Geocaching Live API server is slow. The update process separate the list of caches to 10 caches per request.

I will look on it.

Edit: Ha, I am able to reproduce it when I am updating more than 300 caches. So the Geocaching Live API server is faster than I expected.  :D

I'm sure they lie with limits '30' ;) . Maybe '30' on first few requests. I had often this "limit reached" error when users run "GC offlinizer feature", where locus download list of images in every cache over API. Even if I put between requests Thread.sleep(2000), I sometimes received this error, which do not make sense :). Anyway thanks for fast response and update

Hello,

At first sorry for my bad english.

I use Locus and this addon just a few days and i am very impressed!

One question about the livemap:

When i activate the live map, i can choose a cache and save this cache to an folder in locus. So far so good.

Is there ampossibility to save ALL caches that are displayed in livemap?
The reason is, i think this is a great way when i decide to geocaching i choose at home the area i want to go and save all caches to use it offline.

I hope it is understandable what i want to know :-)

Many thanks for your reply!!

Hi Eddie,

for this purpose it's better to look for caches around the cross in the middle of the map screen. With this function you can import caches within a given radius and/or number of caches.

Hi Eddie,

As KaHeMu said, better is to download specified count of geocaches around a point. Then Locus have all geocache data (if you have set to download full geocache data in the add-on preferences) and don't need to be on-line, see more here: http://www.geocaching4locus.eu/manual/nearest-caches.

Many thanks for your reply!

With this method the number of caches is max. 200, right?
No possibility to load more at once.

But it is not really a problem. If i want a larger area i repeat it a few times with the marker on another spot :-)

So again many thanks for your reply!!!

Could you remove the spin control for the amount of geocaches and replace it with a edit box where we just could change the amount. I find myself scrolling from 200 to 10, or 50  and then back to 200...
Or maybe you could add an editable combobox where you remember the last 10 amounts. This is the most flexible and user friendly.

There is already editable field, just touch on number in a middle. Change a value and touch on finish button (on keyboard) to apply value. See attached picture bellow (sorry for czech enviroment:)).

Bad news - updating a cache with corrected coordinates is broken again (it was broken some time ago here (http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3292.msg22775#msg22775)).
To reproduce:
- download a mystery cache with corrected coordinates to Locus
- update the corrected coordinates to some different coordinates via GC website
- open the mystery cache in Locus and choose Update cache - it is updated but the coordinates are still old ones.

@menion: It's bug in add-on. Above version works OK with a latest Locus.

Thanks for a wonderful app.  I've used it a lot for geocaching.

Recently, I've had an issue downloading caches from geocaching.com.  This may be their problem, or me not setting something right.  The problem started sometime within the last several months and/or last several updates of Geocaching4Lucus --- sorry I can't pinpoint it better.

Here is the issue:  When logged into geocaching.com as a basic account, I get only basic geocaches, as I would expect.  However, when I download caches logged in with my premium account, I seem to get only premium geocaches --- no basic geocaches.  If I remember correctly, I used to get ALL caches when logged into my premium account.

Thanks again for your app.

Test environment:

  • Locus Pro ver. 2.20.2
  • Geocaching4Locus ver. 1.5.4.3-rc1

Steps:

  • Import any mystery cache which doesn't have filled-in changed coordinates (e.g. GC2Q9RP (http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2Q9RP_neprojdou-no-pasaran)) to Locus - G4L -> Import GC, G4L set to download complete cache data
  • Open cache in a web browser (GC2Q9RP (http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2Q9RP_neprojdou-no-pasaran)) and press the pencil symbol which is placed after coordinates. Fill-in different coordinates and press Submit button. Then press Accept button to confirm it.
  • Now open that imported cache in Locus, via external application button select Update cache in a menu.
  • Cache should be now placed on a new coordinates.

Note: I tried it also with marked / unmarked "Move to final waypoint" and "Keep data while import", first two choices in Geocaching configuration section in Locus, but without any change.
Sorry for the late response, was on a geocaching trip :)
So I downloaded the RC version again and tried it again - bug is still present. Locus version is same as yours but the G4L addon has version 1.5.4.3 only (without -rc1) as displayed in G4L settings. Are you sure the file on dropbox is the RC1 one or is it supposed to display version without the rc part?

I bricked and unbrocked my GT-N7000, and due to this had to 'upgrade' to CyanogenMod 10.1.3 (Jelly Bean).

I reinstalled Locus Pro 2.20.2  and G4L 1.5.4.2

When I try to Sign into GC.com, I get the GC login, but after 'Allow Access' nothing happens and I get an error after a long timeout..

Fail
Exception:
LiveGeocachingApiException

Aftertrying this a few times, GC.com in my (premium) profile under 'Manage your Authorizations' does show Locus and G4L as authorized, yet I cannot get G4L to sign in

This is frustrating.

c:geo was able to log in just fine (but I think it just pretends to be a browser, and G4L is a much nicer tool anyway, which i want back
HELP

edit
Some more info. Trying to log in via Locus's   'Geocaching Live' menu very quickly brings up the 'Allow Access' menu (for 'Locus' , as opposed to 'Geocaching 4Locus' when I use G4L's Sign In). When allowing that, I get a 'Login valid' (green bad below), but then after a few seconds a red bar with 'Problem with Internet connection' and 'Login unsuccessful' .

Did GC.com change their API again?

How many caches have you downloaded in the last 24hrs. There is a limit( 6000), and GC.com will not load any more till the 24 hr period is up. Saying that, I have only reached the limit once and I had an on-screen warning telling me so.
My SGS3 works ok.

I don't think I have more downloaded then the limit, the problem is solved within 24 hours.

What I would like to see is corrected coordinates in live map.
Sometimes I just drive around and find caches along a random route. I have never been able to see the final coordinates directly in live map, had to enable it from cache waypoints. Now even that is broken. Any kind of zooming or moving will update the cache and reset the mystery to its original coordinates. Have I broken something or what?

is it possible to show the current filter settings of "Cachetyp", "Behältergröße", "Schwierigkeitswertung" und "Geländewertung" below the menuitems found in the "Einstellungen -> Filter" dialog without having to click on the correspnding menuitems?

For example:

Cachetyp
Trad, Multi, Myst
or

Schwierigkeitswertung
(1)-(3)

Or could this be "easily" implemented?
Sorry, I have only the german captions of the menuitems present.

+1. For example, for Bratislava it is not nearly enough and I have to download caches more times and then there are duplicates which I choose to overwrite (so more caches is downloaded than really needed).

One small suggestion from my side - keep limit on 2.X devices on 200. Memory limits are too strict on old Androids and with 500 - I'm worried, that OutOfMemory should be more then often.

Hi,

not sure if this is related to the addon. When trying to log a cache and a setting a trackable I own to "visited this cache", I get an error message and the trackable doesn't log to have visited the cache.

Also: How do I find an offline field log, if I don't select the cache itself. For example: I log offline when discovering the cache, and later at home I would like to upload the logs of the day. How can I find the field logs?

Thanks

Hello

problem with trackables is solved now and will work in next version. You should try also Beta test version if you need this feature sooner or wants to confirm it's working : https://plus.google.com/communities/105669867009952671671

To get text file with your offline field notes, you need an "Add-on Field notes". It's accessible in menu > more > FieldNotes, where is possibility to choose and export your field notes to file.

Hi Arcao, menion
generally write "Notes" and upload/download them  work well ;)
e.g.
write a "Note" on PC save it > update cache with GC4L in Locus > OK, Note is visible with Locus
write a "Note" in Locus > upload it to GS > OK, Note is visible with PC

but if i clear or add a "Note" and save it on PC which was written with locus and do a "update cache" with Locus/GC4L this changes are not updated on Locus :-[

I hope my discription is understandable, sorry i do not know GC4L or Locus is responsible :-[

We (I think me ;)) published a new major version to Google Play.

Changes in version 2.0:
• Dropped support for Android 2.x and Android 3.x
• Less usage limitation for Basic Members (see Manual for more (http://geocaching4locus.eu/manual/))
• Added downloading hints for Live map (must be enabled in setting)
• Added Send Feedback choice in Settings
• Added Chinese language
• Improved UI
• Bug fixes

After updating both Locus and G4L addon last week, I noticed that after opening a geocache I get a toast notification "Problem with internet connection!" and it repeats quite a few times, randomly disappears and so on...
This happened while geocaching in Austria - with GPS and track recording on, all the caches were imported from a GPX file created in GSAK. The "old" caches I already had in locus database, which I downloaded via G4L, do not exhibit this behavior. But I cannot reproduce it now, I also already deleted all the Austrian caches yesterday. Any idea why there is this toast notification after opening a cache? (note: I have Locus set to open the cache immediately and not show the intermediate little info box about cache).

Hmm, Arcao? ...

I'm really trying to find an issue on Locus side, but still no success.

My steps - start Locus, add to functions panel G4L icon (internal included in Locus or external from "list of installed apps").

Then tap on this icon opens G4L dashboard.

Intent Locus currently sends is:

print(Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN flg=0x4000000 cmp=com.arcao.geocaching4locus/.DashboardActivity (has extras) }), action:android.intent.action.MAIN, extraAction:null
extra - key:INTENT_EXTRA_PACKAGE_NAME, obj:menion.android.locus
extra - key:INTENT_EXTRA_LOCATION_MAP_CENTER, obj:[B@3ae312e9

Where in key: INTENT_EXTRA_LOCATION_MAP_CENTER is included map center. If there will be also a key INTENT_EXTRA_LOCATION_GPS, this is a current known GPS.

You do not see these keys in intent when you receive request from latest Locus version? May you check latest 3.7.1.2 Beta version? Thanks!

This GPS search while trying to download caches in an area is not useful.
F.e. I'm at home, are going on a trip 100km away and just want to download the next 200 caches of this area (that's what I use this app for). I don't need the GPS search of my actual position, all I want is that the app starts searching right there where the center of locus is...
Like it was before.

Damn, yes, you are right. Sorry for my mystify. I tested it with Locus Map 3.7.1.3. When I spoke with Menion, he told me that it should work also with 3.7.0. I didn't test with this version.

Really? Hmm for me it looks so long since I did some fixes around this issue, that I was more then sure, that latest public version is already correct.

Sorry for that!!

Just installed on a new phone. HTC M8 running CyanogenMod 12.1.

Was trying to login to my account. It kept telling me I was entering an incorrect user name or password. Tried resetting my password on geocaching.com.  Still couldn't login. I am now getting the error shown in the attached photo. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling locus and Geocaching4Locus. The error persists. Suggestions? Thank you.

It seems your time or timezone is not correct in your device. Could you check it in your Android settings?

Hello Guys,

Grounspeak introduced expiration of access token yesterday, which app get in sign on process. I have prepared a new version of add-on which handle this expiration properly also with other critical bug fixes.

Unfortunately I have a little problem to publish this new version to Google Play (some violation of intellectual property). I am in communication with Google Play team to solve this.

Until I solve the problem with Google Play, you can solve the error message "The access token is expired. (3)" with sign out and sign on again in add-on Settings - Account. Or install this new version manually from bellow link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ijmbnyncgeoe8bb/Geocaching4Locus-2.0.3.apk?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ijmbnyncgeoe8bb/Geocaching4Locus-2.0.3.apk?dl=0)

Version 2.0.3:
• Added Chinese (Taiwan) language
• Properly handling of access token expiration error
• Fixed a lot of critical bugs
• Send Feedback action attach logs to e-mail (Please prefer this way for contact me)

The workaround (login, logout) doesnt work. Screen menu's dont fit the post etc etc
The downloaded new version did the job in Locus Pro.
Locus Free, again another crash ... Fail   Exception: LiveGeocachingApiException

Hi,
I started to use the geocaching feature within Locus ...  8)

But ... I have some questions:  ::)
- normaly with every found cache I log the visit of my personal coin. Where can I do so? (Without entering the tracking number every time?). Is there a setting anywhere for autovisit?
- often I have a "foreign" TB with me in my inventory. Is there an easy way to log a visit too?
- How can I upload a photo to this "foreign" TB-Log?
- after a cache tour I want to check my fieldnotes ... and maybe correct and upload them. Where can I find a list of my fieldnotes?
- After a cache day I want to see all my "touched" caches. Is there a list of recently watched caches?

Hi jonny.blue
all your questions are offtopic in this thread  ::) GC4L is not responsible for these
for sure it is not easy to know where is an action done inside locus and associated addons ;)
so i´l  try to give you answers
Quotenormaly with every found cache I log the visit of my personal coin. Where can I do so? (Without entering the tracking number every time?)
logging TB/coin is only possible while online logging inside locus "Log your visit" and if the TB/coin is in your inventory you do not have to enter trackingnumber once more.
QuoteIs there a setting anywhere for autovisit?
no
Quote- often I have a "foreign" TB with me in my inventory. Is there an easy way to log a visit too?
yes, see first answer
Quote- How can I upload a photo to this "foreign" TB-Log?
as i know this is not possible inside locus
Quote- after a cache tour I want to check my fieldnotes ... and maybe correct and upload them. Where can I find a list of my fieldnotes?
you can correct and upload each cache one by one inside locus,
or you use addon
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.yard.android.locus.addon.fieldnotes&hl=en
here you can log online all at once :D and with additional options PRO version of this app ;)
QuoteAfter a cache day I want to see all my "touched" caches. Is there a list of recently watched caches?
no

Hi balloni55,

Quotelogging TB/coin is only possible while online logging inside locus "Log your visit" and if the TB/coin is in your inventory you do not have to enter trackingnumber once more.

Maybe you can give a "+1" to this idea (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/improve-trackable-handling-within-locus-especially-for-offline-logging) or this idea (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/automatically-log-trackables-is-already-implemented) in order to support these ideas.

Hi balloni55, c.s.g,
thanks for your answer ... :)

Now I found the way how to log a TB ...   ::)

But today I was caching in a rooming zone (without internet connection) - and I decided to use Locus for caching because of the ability to load spoiler pictures with the offlinizer 8) - and yes, there was no chance to log online, therefore I couldn't find the option.  :(
Maybe the TB-logging could be improved ...  ::)
- Log TB's offline
- upload pictures to a TB-Log
- mark TBs to be logged automaticly with every found log
- log TB's without a cache log ....

Just some ideas ( I'm used to with my actual caching app CacheSense)

Thanks

Hi again,
I can't seem to find whether this has been already discussed but... since some Locus or G4L version (don't know which one, sorry...) it started to show geocache logs in wrong order if the geocache was found by more users on the same day. Simply said, order of logs is totally different than on GC.com listing page. Is this a known issue?
Title: Re: Geocaching4Locus - version 2.0.3
Post by: Martin Sloup on April 17, 2016, 21:44:46
Hi Mek,

Unfortunately it's a feature since January 18, 2016. Groundspeak decided to drop time part from log date (because they are not able to work with timezones :o, yes stupid).

Starting Monday January 18th, we'll be stripping away the time precision and setting the time to be noon of the date, regardless of timezone. This is the approach that has been used historically by geocaching.com. This change will standardize how the date logged parameter is interpreted across all platforms.

So there is no way to guarantee order of logs on all systems and platforms. I guess on website it's ordered by some internal id, whereas Locus Map order it by date (this is more question for Menion).

By the way we had already discussion about time logging here (in czech language) (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/cz-%C5%99azen%C3%AD-z%C3%A1pis%C5%AF-v-logu)  [en translation (https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=cs&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fhelp.locusmap.eu%2Ftopic%2Fcz-%C5%99azen%C3%AD-z%C3%A1pis%C5%AF-v-logu)].

Thank you very much for your response, Arcao. Yes, the programmers at Groundspeak are acting like... (you know what). I do programming for a living too and cannot understand this step back, it looks like a serious bug in their system. It's bad there is no workaround. :( And of course, their marketing is trying to sell it as a "feature" (like the "starts with" search on geocache name recently).
Btw. Czech language is OK for me, I am Slovak :)

I just upgraded Locus and Geocaching4Locus and now I am unable to login in Geocaching4Locus.
When I click in Settings/Account/Connection, I get a popup window "Internet access unavailable. Please verify your connection" (translated from french).
Of course, my connection is ok, and I have restarted my phone.
Any idea ?

Anyway if it happen again, please send the app logs with Preferences -> About -> Send feedback (https://geocaching4locus.eu/manual/preferences#toc-about) action and I will look on it.

I import all my cache with Geocaching4Locus.

Every time I have to again later start Offlinizer to also come to the images.
On my wish list for locus and / or the Geocaching4Locus is high because it always annoys me.

Or I have all the time to do some?
Title: Re: Geocaching4Locus - version 2.0.3

Good day togtog,
what exactly annoys you? That you have to always run "GC offlinizer" manually after download of caches? Because loading of images may take really really long time, I consider better to start it later manually when you are sure, for which caches you wants images and you also know that you have enough time to leave device for a while on table.
Anyway feel free to create a new topic on help desk http://help.locusmap.eu/ , if you consider this feature as useful for more users.

Hello. I have problems updating my geocaches lately. When trying to update cache OR download logs, it gives me error (Unfortunately, Geocachig4Locus has stopped) and nothing is updated, no logs are downloaded.

EDIT: It's been doing for few days now, maybe it's related to the latest update?

I don't think it does either. Sure, when updating from a folder, it does not give error ... but it still does nothing. Example - I have there a cache that has been recently archived. But when updating from folder, it looks still active, does not load new logs - in other words, does not work.

At least on my end.

With latest Locus Pro and G4L, on one of my devices I can't activate G4L's live map; it says I need to enable Periodic Updates - even though it IS enabled.

Just tried the Locus beta.  It works.   :)

So I just need to wait for the next full release.  No worries.
Title: Re: Geocaching4Locus - version 2.0.3

This problem is back.  Both Locus (non-beta) and G4L are up-to-date as of today.

I don't use G4L day-to-day, but needed to diagnose an unrelated problem, and suddenly noticed, once again G4L doesn't work.  It claims periodic updates are off, but they're actually on.
Title: Re: Geocaching4Locus - version 2.0.3
Post by: Menion on September 03, 2017, 16:21:00
Hello, maybe it is just a mess in which version is used by G4L. Quite hard to fix without simulating same issue ( which I was not yet successful ). Maybe if you do not need to use and test Free/Beta version, suggest to remove it and sue only Pro version, it should help for sure.
Title: Re: Geocaching4Locus - version 2.0.3
Post by: Viajero Perdido on September 03, 2017, 17:22:18
That seems to have made it work, thanks, but it was odd.

I uninstalled Locus Free/Beta, Ran Locus Pro, asked for the Live Map.  It said "Enabled" but nothing happened.  I tried it a few times; noticed it said a mix of "Enabled" and "You need to sign in" or words to that effect.  So I signed in (took a very long time, but I think that's Groundspeak's fault), and now it's working fine.

Like you say, maybe it was some confusion between G4L and (Pro vs Beta).  And as I said, I rarely use the live map, so if it's only me mentioning it, I wouldn't worry about it.
Title: Re: Geocaching4Locus - version 2.0.3
Post by: Menion on September 03, 2017, 17:55:20
Oki, perfect. It is little bit complicated problem, because all add-ons have to detect which version is Locus is active. If none is running, API return I think Pro version. But when you later start Free/Beta version, add-ons may not notice this and still try to use once used Pro version. Not yet perfectly solved problem ...

Hi,
there is a bug in G4L when handling corrected coordinates of a cache that has been corrected twice. To reproduce:
- open a mystery cache on PC and correct its coordinates
- download "nearest" geocaches using G4L
- observe mystery cache was downloaded as well, with corrected coordinates
- open the mystery cache on PC again and set different corrected coordinates
- download "nearest" geocaches using G4L into same folder of points, answer "Overwrite" to dialog
- observe that in Locus, the mystery cache is still located at the old corrected coordinates, but it should have been overwritten by most recent coordinates
