Nice design. I like it.

File association gpx with Locus is gone :(
No app is linked just now. How to fix it?

Gone? Like you tap in any file browser (which?) on GPX file and Locus is not in offer? There were no change in this system, weird.

Tried it with Total Conmander and OI Filemanager. Nothing was installed or deinstalled. Really strange if you have changed nothing within Locus.

for me it work with ES-dateiexplorer and android standartexplorer
QuoteTried it with Total Conmander
with TC for me was set Osmand to open .gpx, reset data in Osmand didn´t help.
So i open TC > menue/Konfigurieren/Interne Verknüpfung/.gpx > locus pro

I tried to use a svg cursor, ic_rotate_arrow.svg. but it won´t shown. Shown is a standard cursor
Is it implemented?

Just to say I do not like the new monochrome icons, particularly in the Settings menu where so many seem the same, even the ones that are different.

@Christian: hmm it ever worked directly over TC (import)? Because TC sends incorrect request where is missing mimetype for a selected file, so Locus is not registered for such generic request.

@jusc: SVG cursors are not yet implemented. We have discuss about it, but I've not yet done it

@john_percy: please wait a while, few weeks/months. I personally needs to test it in the field and others probably also. As I wrote somewhere before - guy (graphics) convinces me about united monochrome design for all icons (some exceptions, I know), but I also agree that colored was ... well "nice" :). So a while for testing, then we will see if i should convince him back to colored icons.

EDIT: @christian ... hmm system for registration of application to be a "receiver" for various clicks like this, is really really complex. In my code it is an xml file long 110 lines and this is just registration for GPX/KML/KMZ file. I have found that removing one line "fix" this problem and Locus appear even for Total commander events. I should change it to next Beta version, just please test it and let me know if something will work differently or won't work at all. Thanks

Hi menion,
In Locus Store (pro 3.14.0) I have this on two smartphones:

(http://s1.postimg.org/4g26t6y1n/2015_12_18_11_05_20.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/4g26t6y1n/)

But in Locus free on the same phone I get:

(http://s7.postimg.org/hjf5n3lxz/2015_12_18_11_13_18.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/hjf5n3lxz/)

The last screenshot is correct.
What can I do to solve this?

Thank you for the new versions.

Hmm and both versions use same root directory (probably yes) and both use same account in Locus Store?

2x yes.

And after intensive checking of all path settings the free version shows now the same incorrect "no valid data" :-(
At least consequent.

All purchases are correct shown in the store so I am logged in with my  sole account.

PS. My Locus installations on Genymotion have the same behavior.

I know, it's a little pointless to discuss about whether the new icons are "good" or "bad" - just a couple things:

Thanx.

@tramp20: to be true, I have absolutely no idea how this may happen. Information about downloaded items is stored in data/config directory in database so it is shared for both Locus version, if they share same directory. In case, you keep original place where Locus downloaded it's data, it should be all correctly detected. If you wants, you may share with me a file data/config/config.db and I'll tell you what you more then ...

@slarti76: good points, mainly point 3! , thanks, I'll try to do something with this.

@Christian: it's is not simply possible as this file has to be included in apk file. Anyway I just wanted to forward some testing to you. Generally no problem, I'll invest some time to this and test it by myself. If you find in next version any more troubles with import, my ears are open ;)

@balloni55: till now, it looked like version that won't need and bug-fix version. Well, it's not true anymore. Thanks (fixed now) :/

It seems that this config.db is empty on my two phones :-(

Edit:
In the meantime I found an older config.db in a backup from 13.12.2015 with 4 correct store_item_files.
But if I replace the actual config.db with this older one on the same phone  I get the error "no valid data" again.

I believe that the Foursquare venues add-on no longer works (possibly since 2014) and should be removed from the list of add-ons. Foursquare itself has changed totally.

@gynta: thanks, fixed!

@tramp20: that's what I wanted to say you (check older backups). Unfortunately you shared empty db. May you share the older with records? Anyway if you are able to check it's content - there is table "store_item_files". Inside are downloaded files and important is column "relative_path" and "size". They have to match. Hmm "relative_path" ... this brings me to idea ... are you downloading vector maps to some custom directory on SD card defined in Locus settings? It may cause troubles as this option of quite new compare this older database system

@john_percy: thank you. I've just contacted fabian (developer of this add-on) and I'll remove it if there won't be any planned updates. EDIT: quick answer - add-on removed

Sorry I forgot to attach the other db.
It seems that your guess is correct: I downloaded the vector maps and Locus does not consider the selected path on the external sdcard. So I moved these maps manually to the external sdcard.

@balloni55: for me it works

1. import of GPX file
2. update of cache
3. check waypoints - all extra texts are lost. This is anyway correct. Texts in GPX file are imported and they are not marked as "Edited". So they are overwrote during update

Second method
1. import of GPX file
2. edited description of Station1 and Station2 waypoints
3. updated cache
4. mentioned waypoints still have edited description, all others has it overwrite

@gynta: ah, copy & paste, thanks

tap on a track, open "chart" tab, tap anywhere on a chart and then, when you see a vertical line with values over chart, tap on bottom map button. If it do not work to you as I describe, where are you stuck?

In earlier version there was a different behavior.

Thanks for a feedback guys. As @balloni55 wrote - it's first version of top, guidance, panel. I'll be thinking about what you wrote and improve it little bit, thanks. Btw. d/t shoudl be already there, but in your case maybe just in landscape - stars took too much space :). I'll probably on device with low space write just D 3.5, T 4 etc. and stars will be visible just if there will be enough of space.

I'm not sure whether bug or feature. I think this was discussed long time ago, and was decided track recording button on left side was redundant (don't show) if user has added their own top or right side track recording button? I noticed however this change of behavior a few versions ago (now shows both buttons again) but only just now remembered to post. Hopefully you agree the left side (green) button should not be displayed.

It's time for a quiz:
What of map type we can see here on this screenshot:

Yes map icons are really too small. please try with Google online maps.
For offline maps the icons could  better distinguished if they differ more. Vector and gemf format map icons are very similar.

QuoteBtw. d/t shoudl be already there,

my idea point to the WPT´s of the cache, its also interesting while guiding to e.g. "Final" to see D,T,S
- please display smilys at the end, D,T,S,W,T are more interesting (using small displays)
- WPT name maximum one line

@jusc: understand. I've currently other important tasks for Scinkk (graphics), but I'll keep this in mind (together with black/white icons in settings).

@balloni55: ah sorry, I missed work "waypoint".
- I think that visible cache parameters when you guide to a waypoint will be only confusing as it will looks like you guide on a cache. Also parameters are related to cache, not a waypoint.
- one line for name, agree
- other parameters -  have to think about it
Thanks for ideas.

Confirmed 2nd arrow icon on POI Alert > Folders screen. On 2 devices, both with 3.14.2.

track record icon - I have Settings > Track recording > Auto-hide side panel, Style: Side panel: tick. On 2 devices, both with 3.14.2. But as said, we had discussion months ago that if user adds own button Track recording to main screen then the side-panel button should be hidden. This worked OK until very recently, maybe 3.14.0.

@balloni55: thanks, I'll check it

@Andrew: ah, in "Folders" tab ... then it should be ok. First left button just select/deselect all folders, is it working in this way to you?

And "Track rec button" - check menu > settings > Map - control & panel > Top panel hiding (if you have "track rec" button in top panel ) or "Function panel visibility" is you have it in right panel.

ah yes - working for me too, sorry  :( minor suggestion but two ticks side-by-side seems confusing, maybe the First left button "tick" could be an eye icon?

I have Top panel hiding = unticked (not changed)
I have "track rec" button on right side as per screen capture that I posted (not changed)
I have "Function panel visibility" = never hide (not changed)

Nice update.
Would be great to open the point of guidance directly when taping on the field of the tools panel.
Long click should stop guidance like it was earlier

That's exactly what I wanted to write too !!
Is there any way the new 'guidnace panel' could be configured, at least toggled on/off ?

Hello gyus,

I've just published new Beta version 3.14.2.4. What may be for most of your interesting and what I also kindly ask to test if it works correctly:

- completely new system how Locus load and unload geocaching waypoints and also how it store this state. Now when you load some gc waypoints and then hide a cache and then display this cache again, waypoints should restore as well. Same when you move whole cache between folders, etc. Even it do not look so, it is quite complicated system, so I hope, it will work :)
- for Text-to-speech is now possible to choose own localization. Even if Locus will be in English for example, "German text-to-speech" should really speed all in german
- test existing live tracking service if you use any

In all three points above, were made a lot of changes on background and it may contains any issues - just a warning. Thanks!

I agree with Balloni - user needs to be able to edit/ delete/ modify the current 3 options "stroll around", "take a walk", "mountain hiker". You will have a stream of requests to improve this.

Question on all geocachers ... is it useful for anyone (or better, has anyone idea if it may be useful), using of timezone when logging a caches or trackables? What if Locus just use current timezone of user. I'm thinking about removing of this settings. There were some changes and I think this settings is not needed. What you think?

Hi.  Avid cacher here.  I think we could lose the setting and just use the device's TZ, sure.  (Though I reported an issue with being "too far in the future" when trying to log a cache "now" in Korea.  But even then, TZ was defaulted correctly, and I wasn't about to change what I barely understand the effects of.)

Didn't I read something, maybe on the Groundspeak forums, about them abandoning the TZ field in the API, or something like that?  And just using "noon".  Not sure if I read that there, read that here, or simply dreamt it.  (If it's the latter, I need to get out more...)

Thanks for opinion. I'm working on it also because of issues with logging in far east (China, Korea, etc.).

Not sure if groundspeak plan to remove TZ (probably not), but all around TZ is handled only in Locus. Unfortunately all years back I had in locus small issue in compute of times, so most of logs were shifted a few hours. And now, after I made a fix, I noticed that settings for timezones is no more needed. Anyway I rather ask if someone may find useful to log a cache a lot later in different TZ for example? I can't imagine it, anyway I rather ask :).

Instead of hard coded values (which will be totally irrelevant to some users) why not try to provide more useful options based on existing track history. If there are existing tracks use the moving and elapsed speeds from the min/ avg/ max speeds of the last 10 tracks. If there are tracks with differing profiles try to display options based on those tracks. The system becomes self tuning.

Because I wants to create a very simple feature without extra options and too much work. One day till I make this work is more then I wanted, to be true. Because I do not think, that this is important feature, no extra tuning is planned. I really wants to create small feature that will be working and useful and forget on it and not spend a week on some self-tuning system. Anyway nice idea.

But could you display the current TZ when logging a cache / trackable?
Only displaying, nothing more.
Like "Your are logging this cache with UTC+2" or something like that.

What I often do is create a Field Note with the number of caches found to store the timestamp in Locus.
Then, mostly after the holiday where I did the caching I enter the full text in the Field Notes and upload them (this might be in a different timezone).
If the timestamp in the Field Note isn't altered when changing the contents before uploading (so it always has the initial value) I'm happy :-)

I see no need for that, but thanks.  And I'm indifferent as to whether you simply show the TZ to be used, as suggested above.  (And the logging-in-future bug I mentioned earlier is very low priority for me as well - but might not be for people living in Asia.)

BTW, this short thread on the Groundspeak forums might shed a little light, or just add to the headache.

You are right! With satfix it's displayed ok. Does it work like this since the feature was introduced? Because it happened to me only recently.
Maybe I changed something in the Android GPS settings, because I recently observed another "new" behaviour: I was used to center the map view with the Button in the bottom left (don't know the exact english name), even without GPS enabled in Locus. I assume the last known SatFix-location or the coarse location from CellTowers/WIFIs was used in this case. But Recently, this does not work any more without enabling GPS. Was there a change in Locus regarding this?

I am on 3.14.2 and when guiding to a point, I think the screen is not optimal.
The third bar from the top (SCHIPHOL) is too high and the blue arrow is pretty useless.

But most of all I would like to have the double panel like in guiding on a track with selectable fields.

I firstly wanted to publish a new version in Friday. But in the end, we found some unsolvable problems with downloading of new version of SHOCart maps so I had to over weekend and Monday completely rewrote old system for selecting map areas for download.
