Very nice work again. Thank you.
But I already found a new issue in the new (and very good) logging of geocaches from the field notes button on main tab of geocaches.
After the successful log Locus crashes and restarts.
I couldn't reproduce it, because I only had one found today ;-)

For me the new setting of the center marker is no working. Long tap just brings up  standard PopUp.
Tested on Galaxy S5 with Android 5.0

Ok solved: ::)
It is not the center marker (red crosshair) to be long pressed; it is the center button in lower left corner.
Note to me: Keep your eyes open !

Strange. I am using only the offical releases of Locus Pro, i. e. no test versions. Until Locus Pro 3.10.3 I never got such a message at start.

Question:
(1.) Did you install test versions of Locus 3.10.xx?
or
(2.) Maybe the "problem" has something to do with a setting in Locus Pro.

Hmm new version 3.11.1 published.

It is a third major version in row, that has some serious problems after start. Update should helps now, if not, suggest to re-install application. Sorry for a troubles. I think it is time to slow down with updates. Too much changes at once which are not precisely tested on all possible devices. In this case it was a problem with new 64-bit CPU architecture ...

@menion,
the old bug that the OutdoorActive summer maps (bought from store) are not shown (complete blank display) appeared again with v3.11.1 :-(
See http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=4690.msg38440;topicseen#msg38440

The 3.11.0 was ok, now on all my phones this map is invisible again.
Your trick to go to the store and click on my Google account does no longer help..

The old OA maps (not from store) are ok.

You should NEVER change your code between beta and release versions :-)

damn this is really interesting as nothing changes here. May you write me over PM, which email account you see in Locus Store/which you use for purchase of maps. Thanks

@jajaballard: hmm fortunately this is not a big problem, but interesting. Probably unsolvable without some beta version with debug logs ... this system was in Beta version for more then week and not single negative report, so I thought it is working fine. Hmm nevermind ...

I am a long term contributor to OSM, using a Garmin eTrex Legend until four weeks ago, when I discovered Locus Map.  I installed Locus Map Pro and have been impressed beyond words by what I have experienced in this short time.  It has breathed new life into my enthusiasm for OSM.  More than that, though, is the community: I believe a product is enhanced immensely if it has a good following, and forums speak volumes for good or bad.  I feel it should be expressed that your dedication to Locus Map is obvious.  I wish to thank you and gynta for the help you have provided to me over this period; it is rare to find this level of assistance and commitment.  I am so appreciative, I installed Locus Map Pro on my wife's 'phone yesterday.  Following the latest release, it seems an appropriate occasion to thank you both and wish you, menion, a well-deserved holiday!

You are of course welcome :). Well, it is my job I get paid over sell of Locus Pro, but in case of gynta and many others very active users here on forum and help desk, they do this in their free time. So I'm usually every day amazed by huge support they do to Locus. Without this, Locus will be probably stuck somewhere in 2012, because mainly never-ending "pressure" from them, push me most to do more features etc. ;). So more thanks belongs to them ;).

Hi menion
for log test i use one of my own caches http://coord.info/GC1ND4B,  as owner i am able to delete unneeded testlogs inside geocaching.com after test.
After i have done some tests with new "Field notes manager" i found a little issue.
If i update this cache inside locus, my "testlogs" (write note, owner maintenance) are furthermore visble althought they are deleted on geocachig.com
Currently last log is "found it" from user "geo.turtle" as you can see in link above

Hi, since the latest update (actually I had to reinstall the app, running 64-bit) I can't find the config.cfg file in the root  folder. There's a config_projections.cfg file but that's it.... Could you help me out?

I only recently started to do some "advanced locus customisation" so sorry if I sound like a real beginner but before the update I had things just like I like them and now it's gone... :'(

Thanks for an awesome app!

Hmm this probably happen even after update of logs in Locus right? This is very probable and to be true, I have no idea how to solve it. It is really rare situation, that some logs that were already added to Locus are now removed. Because Locus usually keeps all logs and when you for example press "update logs", then really just new logs are added or old refreshed. Same when you reimport same cache from PQ/GPX. Can't imagine for now any method how to correctly remove logs that are not anymore on gc.com. Only some button that should completely remove all logs, but in will have so low usage by others ... hmm and what about adding a "remove" button to context menu of every log?

Hi!

It seems to me, that the navigation (and recalculation) with via points is not working any more (at least in Pro 3.11.3 with a route created via "route and measure"). It had worked for me some time ago, but I'm not sure in which version (maybe it was the BETA?).
Does anybody else have this problem?

Oki, should be fixed. Thanks all for reports and logs!

@0709: I've checked track created by MapQuest and it's export to GPX. It never worked before (should now), and it is also quite complicated to updated it correctly. Problem there is, that track already has navigation commands, but trackpoints and track commands do not have defined any times. So for now, sorry

Latest beta starts and has one new cosmetic bug - on one of old maps it doesnot show name at all

Map can still open, t's GEMF format. Orux and Mapsforge formats still show names fine

Edit: Locus always crash when opening vector map from quick switch. Open from Menu->Maps OK. Open vector from full maps chooser opened by toolbar button does sometimes crash too, but mostly OK.

Edit 2:
Quote from: Bucky KidProblem with showing of active tracks: active tracks aren't visible after Locus start until I open tracks manager to verify track is selected and close.
This problem still occasionally occurs for some tracks at startup. After opening and closing data manager already OK. But I can't summarize conditions causing this issue. Seems random. Maybe slow sdcard access?

Confirmed, Menion, only crashes with "Quick Map Switch". One other observation, though: Clicking a .map file in a file manager like Solid Explorer starts/activates Locus, but Locus tells "Unsupported File Format". While the map can being shown nicely in Locus via Map Manager :-)

new maps "offline tab"
(http://s17.postimg.org/u1vu35hez/image.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/u1vu35hez/)
1. long click (on Germany) to open window of available maps is not intuitive
2. name of used map isn´t red, so user didn´t see which map is currently used
3. map only change if i open theme window of new selected map
4. did green "L" indicate that minimum one locus vectormap is inside this folder?

1. why you need to open detail?
2. why you need to know which map is exactly selected? Isn't Germany enough?
3. are you using auto-loading of vector maps? Anyway Locus should automatically choose best map related to your current map center
4. nope, it indicates only Locus maps inside

EDIT: btw. interesting you have two Germany items in list. First one is what, whole Germany map?

@balloni: hmm small issue, thanks. In directory with "L", should be really only "Locus maps - LoMaps". So in next version, it should be improved. Anyway system remains same. Main purpose is to reduce amount of items in list and make them more logically merged into single item.

Problem with map, thanks jusc btw. - I'm just downloading one FZK map, so I'll try to test it and simulate.

@0709: ah, this is what I wanted - recalculate from target of small line helper. Issue fixed. I've set a system to recalculate from target of this "helping" guiding line + 100 metres + 3 seconds * average speed. So it should cover some your movement and give a small distance just for sure. We will see in practice.

yes it´s a bit strange.

1. Under MAPSVECTOR I have a "Europe" folder with "Austria, Germany. Alps" and ... maps. There I have to do a long click. to open this folder. A short click opens, at least for me, any random map, that I don´t want.

2. I have more Europe folders like Europe - France, Europe - Germany,
In previous versions they are shown as spelled and I can open the folders directly to view (and open) the maps inside.
Now I see again Germany  with all maps inside (like Bayern, Hessen, ...) and i have to long click again  to open (Europe)-Germany to access any map, p. e. "Bayern". It´s less intuitive and more clumsy as the old version.

I don´t understand, what you mean.
It worked for years, as described. Why can´t users decide it by their own?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 3.11.x (9. 8. 2015)
Post by: Menion on September 08, 2015, 10:08:31
I was just forwarding to topic from where initial idea comes. And why this? Because I believe that clever app should offer you "Germany" instead of huge list of sub-maps, and then automatically choose best possible map.

And why can't users decide? Nice question. Probably because every user wants something different and someone has to define some rules. And now I'm trying to create simplified, more user-friendly version of offline tab of map manager - new rule. And sorry, no choose like old/new style is really not planned.

EDIT: anyway please wait a while with verdicts. In current version is small issue where all vector maps are took and placed in same folders. In next version, only LoMaps from Store should be handled by new method, old should remain as before. Like on screenshot (Berlin map is FZK map in same 'Germany' folder as maps from Store)

New export toggle button "Show Basic/Advanced Option"

- if i noticed it right, by default basic options are displayed and all options for gpx,kml/kmz are checked, but user didn´t noticed this. :-[

- if user export CSV,TCX or DXF this button is useless ::)

Ah finally got it, thanks guys, mainly @balloni55, fixed! (issue with lost maps after first open of map manager)

@balloni55:
Also good point with "Advanced button" for CSV and other exports, thanks for it - fixed.

Defaults:
- "Export generated description" - disabled
- "Export as route" - disabled
- GPX 1.1

So if you had something enabled, you had to do it manually before

And why this? Again as on other places where I use such button - to reduce number of visible options for basic users. This comes from discussion here: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/importing-routes-without-arrows . If anyone has better idea how to simplify it, my ears are open.

I can´t est it now,
Is it possible to put Locus maps from store into the same folder as other maps and to use them with one click alternately?
Example:
open folder mapsvector\Europe and see
mapsvector\Europe\Germany (Locus)
mapsvector\Europe\Germany (OpenAndroAMaps)
mapsvector\Europe\Germany (Freizeitkarte)

Hmm interesting idea, but I cannot recognize source of maps except our own maps, so this is not possible. Because most users use only maps from Locus Store, they will see maps correctly in one folder marked with "L". If there will be more maps, not just from Locus Store, rest of maps use same system as was before. I currently see no better solution to satisfy my needs to simplify things and your (users here) needs to be able to choose quickly map you need.

I can do it by myself. But the question is, if I can move and rename maps from Locus store to a folder of my choice and if it works as wanted.
It´s easier to compare the appearance of themes with differnt maps.

Hi balloni and 0709, nice testing, thanks. I was testing it today and really, result was quite tragic. Mainly because of what 0709 wrote - recalculation always compute track to some points, on already recalculated track. So it always force to you return back to track along the track you left main route. This should be improved.

About some interesting results from MapQuest - MapQuest has one huge advantage compare to other engines - it is able to consider also your current bearing and speed and compute optimal route based on this. This explains what happen on last 0709 video.

About what happen in balloni's video in 0:44 - when you are really close to track, Locus update your location and bearing to match current track. Because of this, you see blue arrow in oposite direction. It is possible to disable this behavior in settings > navigation > stick to track. In most cases, it is really useful. In case, you left the track and ride in opposite direction, it may be a temporary disabled, right?

Jusc: quite interesting result of new sorting. Anyway result is quite logical based on what I did. All maps from Locus Store (vector maps) are merged into own folders (folders with "L"). Rest remains in same structure as in previous versions. I'll try to improve it somehow, but not sure how. As I wrote, I wants to create a simplified system for basic users who has mainly maps from Locus Store.

But what I don´t understand, why Locus "creates" a "Germany folder" in my Europe folder and only puts the federal states of Germany into Europe-Germany, but not the Locus Germany complete map.

A solution?
Perhaps I can create  a "secret"  folder for me like mapsvector/Karten (Karten==German for maps) and you leave all maps untouched in this folder and subfolders?  After download  from store I can move new maps manually into this folder?

I assume root cause in using same map directories for current test and pro version.

@menion: you may have sound commercial reasons for separating the Locus Store maps from the others and using folders with a big L but for me as an end user I don't see the point. It looks ugly and confusing. Better, IMHO, would be to flag the maps themselves with an L or similar and respect the actual folder tree arrangement.

Guys, you are probably missing a point of this new sorting.

1. Please check this topic once more: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/stop-showing-multiple-vector-maps-for-a-single-country-and-the-world-maps-into-a-separate-folder . Because I agreed with popescu idea, that is why this happen.

2. at start, all maps were in same structure, no matter if they were OAM, FZK or from Store. But since this critics http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=4745.msg39013#msg39013 and following, I've started to separate them.

If anyone has better suggestion how to satisfy my needs to implement idea from point no. 1, I'll gladly listen.

As I understand point 1, what is required is a structure like this:
MAPS (folder)
- EUROPE (folder)
- - France (map)
- - GERMANY (folder)
- - - Bavaria (map)
- - - Berlin (map)
The Germany folder is within the Europe folder. The Europe folder also contains single country maps. The Germany folder contains the maps of Germany. The display matches the physical attachment of folders.
For point 2, I had suggested a graphic 'L' beside the name of the map to indicate it is a Locus one, if that's what you want to do. As an alternative or in addition users can rename maps as already suggested.

1. yes, you understand correctly what I wants achieve. And?

2. and how custom icon solve problem no. 1? Problem for balloni55 and others is, that Locus merge all maps in "Germany" folder into single item. Which is what I wants. So to prevent this, I have separated maps from Store and other maps. So all users that use only maps from Store, will see nicely looking structure. All others that use some alternative map sources, will see maps divided as you see.

@menion: My point 2 was a response to your point 2 (logical?). A custom icon for the map removes the need to separate the folders and give them custom icons. And all the maps can appear in the same structure.
But I'm not sure what you mean by merging all the Germany maps into a single item. My Locus England and Locus Wales maps still appear as two items. Or is this only for new maps?

Ok, it's time to say thank you for the fish.
For me, most updates didn't make sense since for years.
But why getting excited? ;) So what, I'll delete Locus free (beta test) and stop updating Locus yet.

A request without one vote.
A lot of investment....

Auto update for Locus is disabled since the second last mess with publishing versions not working properly. I am a common user not a beta tester in the wild.
Sorry menion. But i am not happy with things going on...

"Updates didn't make sense for years", "Not happy with things going on"

Am I missing something guys? It is of course Your choice anyway I'm sure, that you probably noticed, that during five years I'm working on Locus, I'm usually listening to users here on forum in cases, they gives me useful feedback.

If only problem here is new sorting for offline maps, then I'm quite sad that such small change brings such emotions. Change that should just make Locus more user-friendly. Or You think that layout in second screenshot is worst in terms of usability then in first?

(http://s16.postimg.org/fxgq24ucx/device_2015_09_18_064655.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/fxgq24ucx/)(http://s4.postimg.org/jq81tkr15/device_2015_09_18_064726.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/jq81tkr15/)

Btw. you probably do not noticed, but just for you here (because no one other from 300 beta testers complain), I've added option to sort by previous method (top sorting menu > Directories).

Hmm, I do not know what to say. I still do not see a problem. If some maps sort incorrectly for you, I just need to simulate that problem, so description like "download this map, place it here, download that map, place it here ..." is really required.

And if there is nothing more to say, than guys really thanks for years You were part of quite amazing group of people that stay behind Locus. I'm well aware, that without this forum and people here, Locus remains just "one of many". So thanks! If you will need any older version, feel free to write me, I'll gladly upload it.

EDIT: I still do not understand ... expect that when "updates do not make sense" means that most of changes are from you not-logical, right? When I look on latest version http://help.locusmap.eu/announcement/version-3-11-1-10-7-2015 , I can't imagine that most changes is useless, sorry. Maybe from your users point of view is useless new page with latest blogpost (because this is mostly self-propagation of Michal work on our homepage), but the rest? Hmm :(

My post was related to the missed quality assurance and to the pseudo-democratic system introduced by you (requests with the most votes will be implemented at first).

It happend many times to me in the last months that Locus itself or functions within not worked properly (black display on start, guidance a.s.o). And thats outdoor. So i left the one and only tool for planing and navigating i carried with me. Thats not funny an should not happen at all.
And then i have to read that already implemented functions in beta and new final versions not working properly and at the same time you are working on stuff not really needed....
It seems to me that updates of Locus with new functions are forced every four weeks. Its not nessecary.
And...You should better talk with your longterm users instead of say good bye.

I can not say anything to my defense if we talk about problematic releases last months. Problem at start were unfortunately made by problems with 3rd party security mechanism, rest was caused by incorrect testing of all possibilities. Sometimes I regret, I'm not creating Locus to iOS, where life is usually a lot easier :).

Anyway really sorry for this. Hope that now all is fixed and no such problems happen. Not sure if you are aware, but such problems are much worst for me. Long night in stress, when I try to find a working solutions on crazy problem together with responses to tenths of emails "why it do not work". I really do not like these evenings, trust me.

"Pseudo-democratic" system - well. Locus active users - around 600.000. Most voted topic - 96 votes. So yes, it is democratic, but number of votes is far away from "most users wants this ...".

"You should better talk with your longterm users instead of say good bye" ... do I really need to defense myself here? Hmm, interesting. Thanks for opinions.

I agree about quality assurance, but apart from that the voting system is better than any other system. And if you have a look, not all highly voted requests are implemented. ;)

If someone feels pushed to write a terminal "so long and thanks for all the fish" here, what else should he answer?

My two cents here:
I didn't really read the story about the map sorting because it didn't affect me and it sounded rather unimportant to me. I still don't quite get why emotions are running wild about this.
Anyway, as a regular user who doesn't try beta versions, I only experienced vast improvements in Locus since I started using it (ca. 1.5 years). Sure, not all my personal complaints and ideas are tackled. But I understand that. If there's ever a real problem, I always experienced Menion fixing it asap, or at least trying hard to reproduce it. I'm a programmer myself (even though not Android), so I know how exhausting this can be.
And from all I hear about Android I can very well imagine that you can easily get some code in that makes your app fail on startup for a number of devices. I experienced this with other apps (not Locus, fortunately), and most developers reacted much slower on these kinds of problems - if at all. With Locus, you can always be sure that if you report a severe crash with a new version, an update will be there within a day or two at most.

Bottom line:
To me it seems that some people are complaining on a very high level and are not giving due credit where credit's due.

Re "pseudo democratic"...
I think that most happy Locus users do not read the forums, therefore the votes are from a small minority.

How to catch the majority?
When a function breaks, is removed or is changed, then the majority might notice it (if they are using that function).

My idea (free to use/discard):
Locus (in the application) could have a feedback form:
-automatically fetches the Android version and device name
-has tick boxes for changed/new/removed features: "I like", "I dislike", "I don't care"
-a comment field for describing what the user thinks about the new version.
-reward a few LoCoins (or fractions) when the form is filled and sent

All I can say with regard to the most recent posts is that I still think Locus is great and Menion responds well (generally) to comments and requests! I just didn't like what I saw in the new beta and commented accordingly...

Anyway, to move on:
In full screen mode, tapping on a point popup gives the point info screen (first screen shot) with the buttons along the bottom. Tapping on either of the two rightmost buttons makes an option menu slide up and the system buttons replace the Locus buttons (second screenshot). Tapping elsewhere (or returning, where possible) leaves the system buttons.

I learnt of Locus Map just two months ago.  I remain in awe of its features.  More than that, though, I have not experienced previously a forum with so much immediate interaction and assistance, which has been of great value to me, nor of a product that receives so much attention. Here, Menion has played his full part.

guys, thanks for Your comments, appreciate. Now not all seems to be so bad, thanks!

So based on previous discussion, I think main problem is sorting of maps. Here I suggest two things for these, who are interested - 1) new version today for a test (so we all have same version), 2) special topic here on forum, where you may give me list and source for maps I download and set and test. If there will be anything I should improve it, I'll do it. Rest - please change sorting in "offline tab" to old style - I did this settings for you in latest 3.11.3.4, thanks!

@john_percy and @jajaballard - I'm aware of this problem. Well not exactly this, but similar - I was discussed and not yet fully solved on help desk.  It happen only in fullscreen mode. Damn ...

Guys, stay cool and read the details of my post carefully please.
Menion introcuded the voting system and set up the rules. He should stay with his own rules.
And investment of time should make sense. So new sorting of maps with option of switching back to unsorting old system is not effective. Developing weeks on this and have delayed beta and final version means wasted time. And this without a single vote... and a lit of other requests are still waiting.

Imagin' - if you are the guide of the crowd in the wild and the automatic update has installed in the night a version not working properly. What do you think, how many times can you do this before you left alone with this piece of software?
Most of you are younger people used to use buggy software with and without updates. Me not. Publishing a new version is not the beginning of a new developing time by users.
So menion please think about the priorities and QA and keep Locus as the reliable software we know.

Hello guys,

I think there is no more to discuss about here as all was wrote before and I do not want to repeat myself. New version 3.12.0 is since yesterday already available on Google Play and seems to works quite well. Only major reported problem is some crash in new GPSies service, but it is not so serious issue as it is completely new service.

So for now, topic closed.

After discussion with Petr and Michal, I've decided to keep old sorting mechanism for offline maps as a default and enable improved "smart" sorting once, all sides will be satisfied.

Thanks for help with new version, thanks also all people who participate on translations and hope you will enjoy few interesting features!
