Title: c-me live tracking
Post by: gynta on June 15, 2012, 23:02:20
update - read first:
Locus released his own onboard Live tracking feature now

Alternatively(!), you can use my private service:

1. Send me a PM* with a nickname and you will receive a userID in my answer.
    (If you are not allowed to send PM, tell me your interest here in this thread and i will contact you)

2. Setup  Locus Pro: http://locus.oldboys.at/help.htm (http://locus.oldboys.at/help.htm)

3. Start Live tracking to send some points to the server.
    - don't forget to allow mobile data transfer on your phone.
    - be sure you have an GPS SATfix
    - Locus does not send data, if the GPS position is not changed.

4. Login on http://locus.oldboys.at (http://locus.oldboys.at) with your nick and userID and see your position/track...

Hi Al,
welcome in this forum.
No, the problem is that users with very few posts are expected to participate more before they are allowed to PM

Is there the way to make a public link for this service to share my location with anybody?

Yes, but I'am saying about any user, registered or not. Is the way to see my location for anybody if I publish a link in my blog for example? Now one have to log in with my credentials anyway. :(

A "light version" is a good idea.
A viewing page without any functions.
And if you have allowed in your settings other people can you see in...
..ah russia :)

i will create this in the next update...

Hallo an alle Interessierten,

-> Ich denk drüber nach...

Danke jedenfalls für dein feedback.

newest (2.6.3)

edit
Awww. I have noticed that it crashes only if a GPS position is known, when it is enabled. If live tracking is enabled first and GPS afterwards, then nothing happens.
I have tried out the s.... version, but it did not work either.
(I use android 4.0.4, can it be a problem?)

@ screenshots
you add the wrong "pid" (you add your nickname)
because you need nickname only to enter the website later

see PM
your "pid" beginns with s...

but!
...this should NOT crash locus!
i make some tests now...

edit1
first test ok
add some points with locus on andorid 2.3

edit2
add some points with locus on andorid 4.0.3
also works

see
http://locus.oldboys.at/login.php (http://locus.oldboys.at/login.php)
nick nintendojet
UserID s....

(of course you can delete all test points now)

I have tried it out today, but it crashes no matter what. It crashes as soon as it wants to send something, because I have noticed, that right after gps position is set (and live tracking is enabled) Locus crashes iwth 'unfortunately stopped.... message'. Can you help me what to do with it? Are there other things that are wrong? Or is there a trace that can be examined?

I have logged in on the website and it displays one point (which was placed there by you I guess).

Problem solved.
Conclusion: Do not add an extra space at the end of the URL line
In next version. Locus will check the string.
Thank you szebenyib, that you have pointed out.

Post by: Fifi on February 03, 2013, 21:01:42
Same for me Gynta,
1. When i tried, i had 60 and not 40 in the "update time" field
2. I can see in your screenshot that, compared to the screenshot in "http://locus.oldboys.at/help.htm", you add a line with 20 "type = walk".
I did not retried since with 40 and "type" field, but could that be causing the issue ?
Title: Re: [Function] Live Tracking Test Service
Post by: gynta on February 03, 2013, 21:05:50
both makes no difference

edit
Should work with 5 seconds and should work with 65 seconds.
If you send the "type" (eg walk, run, cycle, car,...) - its fine - but its not necessary - its only an undocumented variable :)

Hi there,

a couple of days back I took my bike and pedaled around with cms upload on, regularly checking uploaded points on the web site.

My experience is that after enabling cms upload I always get one point uploaded fine but eventually the upload stops. Sometimes I get more pts, sometimes less. I need to turn cms off & on to resume the upload. GPS always on (locus saves the whole track perfectly), GSM always available, no battery saving feature on. Settings as per guides he re. cms service apparently running, though no beeps on upload failure.

Anyone with similar issue?

Thx

Eniac.
Title: Re: [Function] Live Tracking Test Service
Post by: gynta on February 22, 2013, 23:57:34
hm
there may be several reasons.
eg  a bad GPS accuracy or/and lost data connect
How many send pakets was lost (approximately) ?
Title: Re: [Function] Live Tracking Test Service
Post by: eniac on February 23, 2013, 05:06:04
Umm, packets lost? How to tell?

The GPS should have been accurate enough, PDOP in the gpx is rarely over 5.0 & it fits the map nicely.

Lost connection is more possible, although also pretty unlikely - this was in an flat land near towns . I may have moved from a 3G area to 2G, but I suppose that shouldn't matter.

It looks like once one point doesn't make it to the server, the upload stops until I do something. Also, recall that no beeps.

ad your PM: there should have been a continuous track from 2013-02-21 21:02-22:00 roughly. You can see the gaps (where I checked on web and restarted), end missing.

Great work! I would be using this regularly, but there are some improvements I would appreciate:
 - show trackline for guest
 - show timestamp in point properties or somehow show direction of a trackline (but timestamp should be very easy to add)

...and about other improvements:
As you can see in this thread - there is not really much feedback - so I would not invest too much time.
This is only a poor testservice on an private domain.
A little bit of php, mysql and javascripts.
The ideas are from https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... ly_8703880 (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/live_tracking_to_user_defined_url#reply_8703880)

Hello gynta, I tried the live tracking and re worked well! It's great!  :D  Congratulations.  ;)
I'd like to make a proposal that I think is lacking. You add a selection-list where you can choose the refresh map / position, to make it look more interactive, choosing from 5 seconds eg. I do not know if google maps api provides in something to help with this or is a full page refresh.
Greetings and thank you very much.

Gynta Hello, thank you very much for change.  ;)

Excuse me but I was looking at the source and saw that the drink you've handled using a META tag-> REFRESH.  8-)
Sorry, not to be pushy  :oops: , but maybe (without knowing in detail the source code), you could handle refresh the page via javascript with something like:

var cant_sec = parseInt (document.getElementById ("lst_time_refresh"), 10) / / refresh time in seconds
setInterval (load, cant_sec * 1000);

hereiam.js where you start in the javascript code:

// original code
...
form.submit (function () {
    return false;
});

load ();

var read = 0;
....

// new code
...
form.submit (function () {
    return false;
});

var id_interval = 0;
setRefreshTime();

var read = 0;
....

setRefreshTime function () {
    var cant_sec = parseInt( document.getElementById ( "lst_time_refresh" ).value, 10 ); //refresh time in seconds
    if( id_interval > 0 ) clearInterval( id_interval );
    id_interval = setInterval( load, cant_sec * 1000 );
}

We should also add the selection-list in the html code:

<select id="lst_time_refresh" name="lst_time_refresh" onchange="setRefreshTime();" >
    <option value="5"> 5 sec </option>
    <option value="10" selected> 10 sec </option>
    <option value="30"> 30 sec </option>
    <option value="120"> 2 min </option>
    <option value="300"> 5 min </option>
</select>
This would be the basis, I believe lack review and testing. It is only to make a suggestion.  :oops:

Greetings and thanks for the change to 90s!  :D

New feature prepared -> buddy tracking inside Locus:
First steps are done and It already "works".
There are some limitations - already described on getsatisfaction.com (//https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/issues_with_network_link_kml_file_with_autorefresh_for_tracking_buddies#reply_11693004)
So we hope, Locus will be able to handle kml files with <NetworkLink>-tag in future.
And in the meantime - feel free to test the "Pull POI" function on the Testserver.

-> es funktionierte.

Der Start von live tracking erfolgt problemlos?
Mobile Daten aktiviert?
In der Statuszeile erscheinen gesendete bzw. fehlgeschlagene Versuche. s.screenshot.
Wie sieht das bei dir aus?

Thanks, it worked very well and my family was happy to be able to track my progress in near realtime :)

I actually used tasker (not locus) to post my position every 15 minutes at first, then switched to every 5 minutes when I saw that it wasn't using much battery. Still had 60% left after 17h (the Galaxy Note 2 has a large battery!)

Hi everybody

I just started to use Live tracking feature and it is working great
I used this how to:
http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual ... oogle_docs (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:live_tracking_google_docs)

As it is written in how to, I used gadget map in google spreadsheet to see all my past and present position - it is working nice.
The question I have is: what are the other options to see the live data from locus tracking service on mobile device.
Google map gadget in google spreadsheet it is rather a desktop solution.

When we are on the trip my friend leave half an hour before me and then I need to chase him. He is using live tracking service in locus and I want to be able to see his present position on my smartphone. The best if I can use locus to see his present position and use GUIDE TO feature.
Is it possible ? If not what other options do I have to see his present position on my smartphone ?

thanks in advance for help

A test function inside  the test service website (called "pull POI") is already prepared.

gynta: some feedback

I just tested PullPOI feature and it is working great ! That is what I was looking for !
Is there any chance that user can change manually update frequency ?

How do I set up an icon for this pullPOI item. on the movie it is avatar not a POI icon

Last thing - If I can suggest small improvment for position presentation on the website locus.oldboys.at
Previous and present positions are dark blue dots. If I am running 5 laps of 5km my wife do not really know where exactly I am since it is overlaying. Maybe the present (or last known) position should have a bit different icon ?

QuoteIs there any chance that user can change manually update frequency ?
1. Yes, edit the *.kml file in ..Locus/mapitems/..<refreshInterval>20</refreshInterval> 2. if the taffic on my private server is too high - i have to quit this service  ;)

QuoteHow do I set up an icon for this pullPOI item. on the movie it is avatar not a POI icon
You should know - this is a TEST service. but If you really want, send me a POI and i will put it on the server.

Quoteimprovment for position presentation on the website
is in progress (for months)  :D
Tip: Your wife should use the "guest login"

btw.
On your first trip, you send data from gulf of mexico - is this correct and not a bug on my side, or you are using fakegps?

Everything is clear now.

Do not worry about refresh interval :-)
I was rather asking about possibility than actually want to change anything, same with the icon. It's good enough as it is now.

Whats new?
# simplified settings in Locus Live tracking function
-no more annoying timeformat settings
-no "address"
-no "type"
(but still valid if you actually use it)

Optional you can add two of all aviable KEYs
eg Altitude, Speed, Accuracy or Bearing
-> see help site to setup Locus (//http://locus.oldboys.at/help.htm)

# The guest login site show you now the last position and a 300point trackline (former 100 points).

If you see any bugs - feel free to post here

I tested Live tracking last weekend on a 60km mountain bike trip. The new function works great. I experimented a little with the settings and know it  is fine for me. My familiy has the possibility to watch me on tour an  and send a helicopter if the neddle doesn't move any more :D . I compared the ce-me track with the one recorded with Locus. When I had no data service due to a lack of my provider the points were lost. I had supposed the waypoints to be stored and sent later when the connection was available again. Not really a problem for me but  it is an unexpected behavior. >Uli

After checking your post: You are right - "Center item" - doesn't work (anymore?) in this case.
So we have to wait for an answere from Menion  ;)
Title: Re: [Function] Live Tracking Test Service

I'm sure I already explain it somewhere ...

Locus center on know items ... when you tap on any file that contain Network link, in this file is nothing, just link to some url address. So there is nothing to center on. Location of your buddy is known after locus download data from url.

Solution here should be finally panel for handling KML files, but it's not yet available. I have in mind similar panel as exists in Google Earth, where will be visible content of KML file (or content of network link) so then will be easy to center on any item .. but it will need some time
Title: Re: [Function] Live Tracking Test Service
Post by: joeloc on June 23, 2013, 19:45:43
Ok.... that makes sense. Unfortunately it doesnt help in finding my buddy. Maybe simple locus-internal buddy tracking will come even before kml panel. Or an implementation of googles latitude layer :-).

Is the server for this in any way open source ? It sucks that the minimum refresh is one minute, so you pretty much can't follow someone in real time, but of course I understand that the owner of oldboys.at doesn't want all his bandwidth eaten up, so I was wondering if I could just run my own server instead.

Sure.
A little bit of php, mysql and javascripts.
My knowledge base about this stuff comes from the www - google is your friend too.
The ideas are from https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... ly_8703880 (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/live_tracking_to_user_defined_url#reply_8703880)
Feel free to code your own service.

edit
Ohh i received now a spam report from server.
You sending everey 5 seconds over 60 minutes, thats too much and a script close the test account.
if you want to do more tests - write here and i re-open the account. NP

Sorry about that, turned it on to try and then didn't think to turn it off. I didn't think it would be quite that sensitive, sorry if I caused any trouble. I figured I could write most of the stuff myself, but I don't really know any JavaScript, so the Google Maps integration would take some learning on my part, so I was hoping I could basically just download and run it ;)

Give menion some time :). We tried to create such service with one external guy already in September last year, but after two months of hard communication (like, hey did you look on it? Yes yes, I'll write you ...), I give up. But Peter just in Wednesday told me - Immediately I finish this crazy new store, this function is what I want to do most ;)

Nope - we are talking about same topic -> live tracking :)

The access i really not the problem. I will send him whole stuff - if he want...
The problem is the source himself.  hrhr.
It's too "testing like" - if you know what i mean.
I just wait for the "Show my buddy inside Locus" feature in Locus.
Then i will improve/rewrite the code.

Hi, I would like to ask, it is possible to monitor position others (buddies) usersin in the Locus Pro. We are use Locus Pro in military paintball as navigation and monitoring of their own colleagues would be a great advantage.

"Yes" you can see his position,
But you can't "search" for him (like, where is bill?) and you can't follow him (fixing the cursor on his icon)
but it's possible to fix a guiding line on his icon.

...and you need a server for this massive data traffic,
because all members send/load positions to/from web.
Not a nice idea for my test server btw.  ;)

ok, I have a server for this project, and now I have to install or configure anything on this site?
And what does "But you can't "search" for him", because we play close to each other
and what "you can't follow him (fixing the cursor on his icon)", their position on the map is not updated?

Yes, but i don't have a "todo list" for you.
If you are a webmaster, you will have no problems with javascript mysql and php webcode
All my experience and knowledge are also from god google ;)
Maybe there is a little bit more info inside this thread

Quotewhat does "But you can't "search" for him", because we play close to each other
In this case it's not important for you.

Quotewhat "you can't follow him (fixing the cursor on his icon)"
their position on the map is not updated?
The cursor (cross in the map center) can't following his position.
Of course, you will see his new position icon after auto refresh time.

What ever, I think paintball is too fast for looking where is your mate ;)
and the server/data connect is too slow..
So I recommend you to test on Locus Testserver...

I will show you a small video clip, how it could work inside Locus.
In this example I observe member "A" with guiding line and see how far away he is, in respect of my current position.

i've tried several times to set up live tracking on locus with this thread's information and it doesn't work. there is no data displayed and the tracking page only shows the ferris wheel for data, no database, etc

i've also tried with both spotwalla AND gpsies. none of these services seem to work with locus'  live tracking, but work fine via their own applications.  is locus version broken ?

We are using Locus in a rescuedogsquad... Locus for the maps and, until now, Glympse for the overview "where are my buddies?". One for all would be way better...

In your case the data traffic was very very low. To compare: Using live tracking whole day and open a website eg http://www.blick.ch/  ;) will have near same traffic because Locus will only send small packages and not receive data. I'm sure there are some data traffic information Apps on Google Play to verify all transferred data from Locus.

Checked, works, will soon need more serious its application. In connection with this question: to what extent is allowed to change the recommended settings - update 40 seconds, 20 meters? The specifics of the upcoming campaigns is that I need, for example, 5 sec -1 meter. Possible and appropriate it? It does not create unnecessary load on the server?
hmm
think it make no sense (gps accuracy, connection,...)
suggestion: Try it for one long trip - and compare next time with default setting.
...but plz don't use this spam-setting for a long time.

Title: c-me live tracking: display Lat Lon
Post by: alf on February 19, 2017, 11:46:16
Hello Gynta

Many thanks for this fantastic live tracking.
It is fast (no need to wait a long time between the start of live tracking in Locus) compared to GPSies.
It allows to display satellite imagery (which is not the case with Locus live tracking and GPSies).

A feature that I have been unable to figure out is how to display the latitude and longitude.
On the c-me web page map, the position shows date, time, elevation and comment (I have attached a screen dump).
The only way I have found to get position coordinates  is to download the KML track file and open it to read the coordinates.
As the map doesn't seem to display the coodinate grid, I have not been able to find an easier way to know the coordinates of the displayed position.
It is highly possible that I am an idiot and cannot figure out how to display the coordinates.

But if this is not the case, will it be possible for a future implementation to display the coordinates when pointing to the position icon ?

This will be very useful in the following case:
The locus user is considered by the user follower as injured (the follower has no news, the user has not arrived to destination, etc...)
The user-follower (wife, son, friend...) is able to use the c-me web site and see the last known user position on the map.
The map doesn't really give a clear and obvious hint about the user coordinates (for example, the user is on an area with little markers like large water body or a vast snow plain).
The user-follower wants to give the last known user position coordinates to rescue services, but the user-follower is not very computer literate (he will not realize that he can download the track and open it), although he understands geographical coordinates.
If the user-follower had a displayed grid on the map, or if the latitude and longitude were displayed together with the rest of information, he will then be able to give the latitude and longitude of the last user position to the rescue services without having to rely on any other computer skill.

Thanks and regards

Alf

I want to share my location with others (people without login), is that possible? GPSies is a bit clunky IMO, Locus tracking... is OK... ish.
Optimal solution as for privacy would be an unlisted solution with a key. So that I can give an URL like http:/server.com/?trackingid=1234&sectoken=873264837642
This does not work with GPSies in Livetracking mode... Security tokens only work with normal tracks there.

Best convenience for the recipient of the tracker URL, that's what I wish.

Someone recommended me Real Time Tracker on Google Play Store. That app wants to have access on nearly any aspect of Android. No thanks.

@gytna: hello again! been checking out live-tracking with your service and so far like it pretty much, so thanks again for providing all this for free!

i've also come across some ideas on additional features that might be helpful to some (including me ;)) plus possibly easy to implement that i'd like to discuss/share. please forgive me if such feature is already available and was not seen/understood correctly by me.
while using live tracking I found it at times hard to distinguish newer tracks/positions from older ones that might still be present in the database and are located in the same area that the current tracking is taking place.

* to mitigate this, a rather simple approach could be to be able to individually configure the default number of positions drawn which would be applied automatically when the guest-link is openend by a user/guest.‎

* some more advanced approach: fading/coloring between sections depending on age of the segment. e.g. use of transparency for say 15-minute intervals so the segments within the last 15min are fully opaque while the oldest ones (e.g. older than 4 hours) are displayed in 20% transparency or use a darker color.

* another approach which probably needs more effort to implement could be to define some sort of timeout (say 1,2,4,8,16 hours) after which old datapoints are not shown as connected to newer ones and are styled in a different color.

for now, to minimize visual confusion on the map I need to manually login to my account and clear all my database entries which works for my usecase but is far from ideal IMHO.

what do you (or others interested in such functionality) think about my idea so far?

have a nice weekend everyone,
cheers!  8)

But the test(!)service runs since 2013.
Further development was stopped years ago. sorry

btw.
In guestmode you can set max. visble trackpoints

I see... guess i'm a little too late then  ;)
And am I assuming correctly that there are currently no plans to release the sources (like via github etc.) for folks interesting in hosting some clone on their own server and maybe modify / add functionality?

Regarding your hint with the max. visible trackpoints in guestmode: you are referring to the manual setting via drop-down-list within the guest-mode that allows the alter the default value of 300 visible trackpoints, right?
Just for clarification: above, I was thinking about an individually settable default value for the guest login so guests only have to click the link and are directed to a view that e.g. shows 10 trackpoints only per default.

Many thanks for your fast reply, and sorry for my very late reply.
All clear, problem was on my side due to my own stupidity.
Locus was reporting that the position was sent, therefore I was not giving enough attention to Locus c-me setup.
I deleted c-me from Locus live tracking, added it again, and same problem, Locus apparently sending the position but nothing on c-me web site..
After several attempts I realized that a blank space existed in the Locus PID field before the first character of the default PID "your PID". Therefore replacing each visible character of this field by my PID was in fact letting this blank space in front of my PID, therefore invalidating it.
Thanks again and best regards

Title: Re: c-me live tracking
Post by: alf on March 22, 2019, 20:30:43
Hello Gynta

I am using cme as for the moment it is a far superior live tracking tool.

WHY?
1- Maps are better (can select satellite imagery, helpful in areas where the actual tracks are not mapped, but visible on the satellite imagery)
2- All the positions of the track are available and each position displays the point information. The people following the person tracked will have a better grasp of what was going on in case of problem. Locus live tracking only shows the last position. GPSies shows all the positions, but the information is only available for the last point, and no Lat Lon information is retrievable.
3- It is possible to save the track. Locus live tracking and GPSies don't provide this option. This can have many applications. In my case, I use this to map areas with poor mobile network coverage, by comparing the livetracking positions (or absence of position) to my actual track. It can also be used in case of emergency to provide this Live track to rescue teams.
4- The web interface is simple and neat, with nothing superfluous and no cosmetic niceties. The actions are giving the expected results (GPSies is sometimes an enigma).

So far I can have from cme all the information that I get from Locus live tracking, on a  better map, and with the possibility to save the track.
Therefore I am extremely happy that cme is still up and running.

Thanks again!

Hello gynta, others

in one of the next versions will be removed GPSies service (the result of recent changes on GPSies webserver), so also GPSies live tracking configuration from Locus Map live-tracking.

Because for some time, Locus Map offers own live-tracking system and also because gynta already announced that this small nice tool is no longer maintained, I'll remove it's predefined configuration from Locus Map as well. This does not mean that service in Locus Map won't work. It only means that it won't be offered when creating new custom live-tracking profile.

Thanks for understanding.

but day by day - there are lot of "TEST users" on the server.

Hi gynta,

Thanks a lot for providing this service. Although it is only a "test environment" ;), I'm sure a lot of people are very happy it's (still) there. The official Locus live tracking feature is also nice, but it is lacking some features in comparison, like a complete fullscreen view or the possibility to change the map style.

I understand you don't work on this project anymore other than keeping it running (and adding lots of new user accounts  ;D), but with the given functionality, is there a way to incorporate the given options on the guest page (including fullscreen mode) directly into the URL? I would like to setup a kind of "Kiosk PC" for my elderly mother, and she would be overstrained with choosing any options in case of a needed PC restart (she would maybe hit the "on" switch again, but other than that, never touch the machine ::)).

At some point, I think I'll look into this: https://github.com/Uatschitchun/Latrine-live (https://github.com/Uatschitchun/Latrine-live) and see if I get it it running on my own webspace, but this will take more time than I have before my next larger trip.

By the way: it seems the old documentation from when this only was a BETA feature in Locus has mostly vanished. Is there some (in)official documentation describing the API still somewhere around? (I understand the basic principle of posting the coordinates by http request every couple of seconds to a website script that somehow deals with them, but I guess things have been written down in the past that should not completely get lost in time..)

Best regards
Sascha

Title: c-me live tracking
Post by: gynta on January 03, 2021, 21:43:20
It seems google maps has changed something on his API Key system.
So i think here ends the the test period for c-me.
I stopped the development in the test status - years ago.
Now google ends this project too.

I'm sorry for all my loyal users!
Special thanks to "Neoaliphant", one of the first and last power user.
(brexit and now ce-mexit - what a mess)

best regards
gynta

Thanks gynta for your excellent project

one of the main reasons ive been using c-me rather than native locus live tracking is the tasker integration, as I can make a quick upload of a single gps position very quickly from a single one line tasker task.
so i generally do this once an hour during the day.

Then my wife has my kml file as a map item,    job done,
just had a look at the c-me website, my position is there as of 40 minutes ago, but the google maps is grey and has a development purposes only watermark, but to be honest this doesnt matter at all.
I also have a 300 pt snail trail of my travels viewing from the webpage, which i dont think current locus livetracking has.

So it would be great if gynta kept c-me up....but i understand if its time to take it down....
Many Thanks

Is there any alternative to the c-me website? I had experimented with the (also free) http://www.greenalp.com website but this uses it's own dedicated Android app for uploading position which brings its own complications.

Not completely. The tracks are still recorded, retrievable with the KLM downloadable file.
