Title: [APP] - version 1.11.x, 1.12.x, 1.13.x
Post by: Menion on August 30, 2011, 08:55:55
21.10.2011 - Locus 1.13.5.2
testing version. When you have disabled GPS and you move on map, Locus takes this move as 72km/h speed (20m/s), so you can use this for testing TTS or other voice commands during navigation

[attachment=0:2m6ugkin]1.13.5.2.apk[/attachment:2m6ugkin]

11.10.2011 - Locus 1.13.4.2
Hi Guys, after some time I have here new testing version. I'm really looking for feedback because there are some new interesting news ...

8.10.2011 - Locus 1.13.4

1.10.2011 - Locus 1.13.3

22.9.2011 - Locus 1.13.2

20.9.2011 - Locus 1.13.1.3
.. some more info in previous test version

18.9.2011 - Locus 1.13.1.2
.. some more info in previous test version

17.9.2011 - Locus 1.13.1.1
testing version (as usually ... install as Free, work as Pro, till end of September). This version have also one advantage I use for testing. When you move with map, Locus think that you move with 72kmph speed, so you can simply use map moving for sound testing during navigation
anyway count that for navigation, there are missing some images, so instead of "take exit" you should see just a question mark. Images will be ...

14.9.2011 - Locus 1.13.0

6.9.2011 - Locus 1.12.0

2.9.2011 - Locus 1.11.1
Addon Vector maps here on forum is not valid now. I'll gladly send unlocked version to some people here on forum who helps me, and also to my translators, so write me PM if you think you deserve vector map downloading ;)

30.8.2011 - Locus 1.11.0
Support for "Addon - vector map download" (from previous post) is still valid. So please try and let me know how actual system works for you. Now it should be much more stable, also maps are downloaded in queue and also you can see notification in system bar!

First small test. It seems to be ok. I downloaded Luxembourg and this worked without any problem

Menion, are the following steps correct?

1. You have do download the 0.1 apk from here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=982 (http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=982)
2. install the apk
3. start Locus
4. go to "maps" as usual
5. choose vector maps
6. press + button on the bottom (you must have an internet connection)     better to use wifi, because some of the maps are bigger

J.

I failed to download 'Japan' vertor map.
Check it up, please !

I've tried to download it three times  but I couldn't get it.
When the download progress bar got to  about 310M of total 520.69M, the error message( byte ... error) popped up and the process was dead.

I've tried to download it again.
The download process is dead after about 1 hour.

Have you set up the time limit of the download server ?
I think it will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes to download Japan vector map completly.

Title: Re: [APP] - version 1.11.x Vector map addon
Post by: dreamteam on September 03, 2011, 13:20:56
Hi,

I have a problem with the new Vector map addon:

- bought & installed it yesterday
- by pressing the "+" to enter the menue to download maps I just get only a endless "loading" with the running circle.

I was on my wifi at home.

Today in the morning made a quick check without wifi and saw the menue with the maps, but have not downloaded anything over umts.

Now just trying it again - the same problem, both on wifi and umts: endless "loading" and now menue with the maps.

Surfing and doing other stuff over the net is working without any problem, only o get the maps within locus.

Best regards,
dreamteam

PS: My device is HTC sensation, stock rom, but s-off and rooted

Edit: Just tried again aand got an error meassage after a while (while on umts):

something like "interenal server error"

Edit2: Tried again and now I am able to download maps over wifi - strange

Anyway maybe you can add a checking whether the server is avaialble to avoid this "endless" loading screen if there is a problem

Post by: InfX on September 03, 2011, 14:31:04
I've successfully bought & installed the plugin yesterday, and got this infinite "Loading" the first time i tried it as well. But, after killing the app and retrying in 1..2 minutes, i was able to successfully download an Israel, Switzerland, and, later, and Italy map.

BTW, i've noticed a small rendering issue with the Swiss map, the Lucern lake is rendered white.
Title: Re: [APP] - version 1.11.x
Post by: Menion on September 05, 2011, 16:03:01
rendering issues ... same as usually. These have to be tested on native MapsForge application, and if this is problem on their side, report to them

Also I plan tomorrow next release, mainly with bug fixes but also with new display for geocaching data, so what you think? I'm not quite sure if this is perfect solution so I need you opinion :). Thanks hunters

I'm missing there some desciption (it's size | difficulty | terrain | num of waypoints), but there is not much space for this ... hmm

This really looks great. And makes selecting a good cache easier. I'm looking forward to the new release.
Is it also possible to filter on the attributes?

To bad the favo points are not yet available in the gc.com GPX files. :(

But it gave me another idea for selecting a good quality cache:
Is it possible to connect to the //http://GCvote.com database and get the average rating (mean or median) and number of votes in the overview. e.g. 3.6/21 which means average 3.6 (I think median is better here) with 21 votes. :?:

I'm using a macro in GSAK to add this data to GPX UserData fields. Data is grabbed very quickly (50 in 1 or 2 seconds) and it's very usefull selecting nice caches, because in stead of only the average you can also see the number of votes and leave out the extreme ratings (low/high) by using median average.

this is looking really nice!
very complete..
on first use it will not be clear which one is for difficulty and which for terrain but after a first cache or just opening it it will be clear for all future uses I think
can't really think of any improvements for now, really like it :)

thanks for keeping improving the Geocaching features!

Menion, maybey this thread is not the place for this discussion, but I'm curious why you think Fav. points are better?

In my opinion GCVote give better info about the cache quality. I would like to point to the new android market, where you should see fav. points and Google +1 and GC Vote as the rating system.
What does it tell you that Locus had 10.000+ downloads and 100 people gave it a +1? Something like 1% of the users likes the product? ;)
Compare this info to the info that 1.845 PEOPLE rated Locus Pro and the average rating is 5 STARS. :D
I would know on which rating i would decide to buy the app.....
Title: Re: [APP] - version 1.11.x
Post by: Menion on September 06, 2011, 18:19:03
yes sure this is correct. I see it anyway from a little bit different perspective. I measure this by number of work and number of users. So
1. GC vote is much more work :)
2. GC vote need some more additional work on user side to get these data
3. GC vote use less users

that's all. You're surely correct ... GC vote give much better results
Title: Re: [APP] - version 1.11.x
Post by: dibrial on September 06, 2011, 19:06:28
That's clear and sounds logical. I though you ment that the fav points are better than a rating.

I see some great new thinks in the new version and will test them in the next days.
My compliments to the display of the imported geocaches in the POI list. It looks even better than in your example. With trackables....great....
One small issue that I found is that when opening one single (reimported)  cache from the map screen, the size icon is missing and shows a questionmark.

Well, the Info page has mostly text content. If you(we) have problems with the graphical representation, why don't you just spell it out ("Micro", "Small", ...)?

hi to all, looks I'll have to release new version soon, because number of news seems to be too long for market 400 chars limit ...

- map auto-load (check advanced map settings)
- improved sorting and filtering of POI's and tracks (mainly geocaches - need reimport)
- rewrote dialog for Vector map downloading. Expect next improvements together with new maps at start of October
- ability to manually recompute path
- added support for www.gobreadcrumbs.com (http://www.gobreadcrumbs.com) tracks upload
- restored SHOCart online maps
- improved Quick map switch dialog
- ability to display 161m/528ft circles around geocaches
- supported GEMF maps format
- many small improvements

anyway I just wanted to discuss a little bit ...
- today morning I discovered nice web gobreadcrumbs, so i added support for uploading track to Locus. Do you know this web? Looks good on first sight so hope you'll find it useful
- yesterday I was creating support form GEMF map format. It's very simple map format (read-only), that have just stored map tiles in simple way, but have main advantage. Because it's so simple it's very fast. Much faster then SQLite and also TAR maps. Here is complete specification https://sites.google.com/site/abudden/android-map-store (https://sites.google.com/site/abudden/android-map-store) . On the bottom of page are python scripts to covert some data into this format. If anyone skilled with pythod, create script that allow convert SQLite maps into this, it should be very welcome I think. Why? higher speed and unlimited! map size. Higher speed also mean smaller battery consumption!

- also one news. I discovered that on map source I use for vector maps, is missing a lot of places. I have now another source and also I'm trying, and seems it will work, generate own maps from clear openStreetMaps data, so wait till start of october (till new maps will be on server) and then we should discuss if some areas should be better connected into one file, some separated .. etc ... nice day ;)
and release? I hope tomorrow ...

Great news overall!
GEMF seem simple and easy, there might be one problem: only OSM type tiles are supported, not spherical(?) like Fonecta?
If no one else takes up on the sqlite->gemf conversion, I might try it (starting next week).
Python is no beast for me, but I'm don't have the sqlite map db specifications. Could you provide a link to specification site, thnx.

new test version available ...

about pressing to items.
------------------------------
I know, that there is mistake during rotation. If you imagine bounding box around item that is set as pressing area (defined by icon size), this bounding box is not rotating with map (as icon do), so when you rotate map for 180°, tapping area of POI's will be still on same place, so it will be below the icon and not on the icon. I know about this (for a big surprise), but I have still no simple solution that will work fast. When I'm recomputing this area, it takes a too much CPU power. Anyway I'll try to find solution, promise :)

Anyway there is sometimes also one more problem. Tapping on icon or around icon ... no matter where ... nothing. I still have no idea how to simulate this problem, but sometimes it happen. And when you turn off and then on Locus, it will works fine ... weird

  • new "Name filter" in Points manager screen
Dibrial - thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately did not make things any better for me. I do like having the map shifted to the bottom and also rotate 90 in portrait (so the track goes up the screen),
Quote from: "dibrial"I noticed that selecting poi's on the screen is a lot harder when map center is shifted. After changing back to normal center, selecting is smooth again.

I have managed to create a .gemf map out of Locus .sqlite map. There is just a minor problem  :?  my .gemf maps do not show up in Map manager (a test file from Al does show up and works).

In sqlite the zoom is Z, should I use 17-Z in GEMF?
Are both .png and .jpg tiles supported?
Can there be several sources in one file? Seems that Locus stores several different s-values (at least for Bing).
What is the reason for not showing a .gemf file in map manager, i.e. what validity checks are made?

Then a minor bug in map manager, if I hit the plus at the bottom, the file browser does not show .gemf files.

EDIT: stebu don't play with this too much. I'm currently communicating with Al, and he reports also some problems with zoom so it will definitely be in Locus itself

The new navigation works a lot better, thanks! Route automatic recalculation works really well, now I don't really need the "closest point" function.

But I still have small wishes:
1)if the system supports this, I would like to see in the itinerary the length of the calculated route and the estimated driving time.
2)for some reason the voice announcements are about 100m too late. It could be the GPS refresh rate or slow CPU. Would it be possible to have a setting: Advance voice announcements by x meters / feet. This would effect the announcements that are made at 200m (100m?) and earlier.

I also hope that "nearest point" should be deleted one time in future :)
1) this do not depend on system, I'm calculating all values by my own. Anyway you're partially correct. I need some estimated times from server and I'm not sure if I receive it. I'll check it ...
2) new settings is not needed I think. I'll check it also why this happen but it will surely not be that to some slow phone etc. It will be problem in Locus itself

I created a route in a previous version with 25 appoints and a distance of 25.6km for bicycle.
If I calculate the route with the new mapquest the route is 62.6km over the same roads.
It also looks like the route doesn't stop at a point, but continues for several hundred meters.

Today I did a geocache with the map midpoint off-centre. I noticed that selecting a cache or its appoints is not possible. I could click them, but no menu came up. As soon as I switched back to normal center, selecting was.possible again.
If tested a few times and although selecting sometimes works with off-centre maps most of the time it doesn't.

Menion, I tested some more and found following:
When in off-centre map rotating mode and long clicking somewhere, the address show is not the point I clicked. Also when adding this point to POI db, it shows up in a different location.
Example:
If tried clicking Prag city center on mapquest map zoom level 9 and autorotation point about west on top. The result of the address and the position of the POI after adding was somewhere near Cicovice???????

I think I am a step further. I looks like above only occurs when the screen doesn't return to full screen. This is a bug I noticed before, but didn't give any attention to, because clicking a POI restores full screen mode.
I will try to reproduce the full screen bug and then test the POI clicking and see if it has an offset.

- in first post is new testing version. I already tested TTS system with Czech and it say distances in really weird way. Czech is quite complicated language and is say every distance ... eh, loss of words. So it will probably needs some more improvements. What about other languages? Some reports should be welcome

- you're welcome hendo.

- Beonun ... this is already there anyway all computation are used only on some RTE (main) points (for example created during track record), so it's now useless. I'll improve it later little bit.

I waited a while but it stays like this
When I click the back button it goes back to the main screen of Locus.
This is on a CyanogenMod 7.1 rom..
I tried a reboot but this didn't fix it.

Hi. The profile recording is very useful. However, is it possible to make the "Time between GPS locations" settings (in GPS settings) savable in the profiles? This would help saving the battery in the following situation:

I want to log my tracks (for geotagging photos) but there is some area that I'll be stationary for a long time. While in this area I want to continue logging tracks but with less frequency, so I switch my profile to "battery saving mode". In this mode, I want to be able to make the app disable GPS and only enable it when it's time to log track (every 15 mins for example).

So the information about version 1.14 says "If you don't want to have reduced downloading of Online maps, do not update!". Let's say I don't want to update and want to stick with version 1.13.x. But now every time I open Locus, I get a pop up notifying me there's a new version available. This is quite annoying. Is it possible to disable the auto-check for updates? Quote from: "menion"hmm, is small toast window really such problem? This toast cannot be disabled by any settings, sorry. I didn't expect situation that anyone don't want to update app ...

Well, it won't be a problem if it doesn't come up every time I open the app. And regarding "not expecting a situation anyone doesn't want to update", well, you have said it yourself with the big red letters here http://www.locusmap.eu/version-1-14-0 (http://www.locusmap.eu/version-1-14-0) that "If you don't want to have reduced downloading of Online maps, do not update!". So I'm sure you would expect some users not wanting to update.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind updating at all. I just gave you an example of situations where some users might not want to update. In reality, you have to understand that there are some users that don't want to update the app every time a new version is released (for whatever reasons). He or she may be perfectly happy with the functionalities and stability of the version he/she has. Seeing this pop up every time they open Locus is like being forced to update and, IMHO, I don't think it's right to do that to paid users :|

If you could make the option to disable this popup in future versions (or at least for paid users) then all is good. Please don't take this as a criticism, but rather a feature suggestion :)  As always, thanks for the great app!
